Nearly half of these comments are criticizing her outfit, but I like it. I think it’s creative, because of the silhouette & the way it plays with color.
I'm even asking myself if those are new clothes or not. It looks so well-put.
What disturbs me isn’t the clothes but the way she’s standing
She's wearing basically the TRIAD combination of colors (blue, yellow, green) + the color of the carpet (red) = the Tetrad 😊 Well-calculated beforehand, indeed😏🍷
Her comments actually speak heaps about her. Love the things you buy and buy the things you love

"Fashion singnifies where we are from, our culture, our norms, our belonging to common ideals, while at the same time showcasing our individuallity, our diversity and our aspiraations; fashion is one component of our freedom, of individual identity, our capacity for creativity, and our path to self actualization." This is beautiful.
I'm probably a person that most people would think wouldn't care about fashion, but I enjoy it and I try hard to dress well, it helps with depression. I believe sashion is important.

I agree!!
I agree it helps with depression.
Here is my issue with people. They do not know how to Buy things rhat last To protect or repair and almost no one realizes that clothing is recyclable.
Yes, it’s so frustrating
Yes, and good quality costs more and even though it saves money in the long run, not everyone can afford to buy high quality and take the time to build the skills to fix things.
Or the clothes that fit them is not available in their price range, weight fluctuations also force people to buy new clothes especially when we can’t control it like with health or post partum issues or many many else.
And one of the things that are just swiped under the rug is that the actual recycling process can be as damaging to the environment like creating clothes from scratch.
Garments made from recycled plastic for example are proven to release a lot of micro plastics during the washing process, or just during the actual use, like eco fur for example.
What I’m trying to say that our solutions to the sustainability problems might easily become as obsolete as the industry that causes said problems.
We need as much diversity and localisation as possible, otherwise it’s honestly the same issue but repackaged
For the first date with my husband I pulled out everything from my closet. Nothing was enough. In the end I was wearing my favourite jeans and my favourite top and I had decided, if that's not enough, then he doesn't fit in my life!!!
You found what best represented who you were and what made you most comfortable so that was the best choice for your date! Your confidence probably showed and that's always the most attractive quality. Some people feel their best in fancy over the top frilly dresses and so that's what they should choose. Fashion and style are personal choices :)

We will hit two decades soon, so it was a good choice to show him what I liked from the very beginning!!!
: - )
@@sarahg3500 Absolutely! And Congratulations :) I hit 35 years in a few months so I know what 2 decades looks like. It's a lot of work with a huge payoff lol
@@jacquiejy
Wow, Congratulations!!!
I hope we will get there, too!!
Clothes are more than just fabric and threads; they are a powerful form of expression, identity, and culture. The way we dress can influence how we perceive ourselves and how we are perceived by others. Fashion has the ability to boost confidence, communicate personal style, and even make statements about social or political beliefs. Yet, fashion's impact goes beyond personal expression; it has deep social and environmental implications that merit closer examination.
In today's world, the fast fashion industry has highlighted the importance of rethinking our relationship with clothing. While it provides accessibility and affordability, it comes at the cost of environmental degradation, unsustainable practices, and poor working conditions for laborers, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The demand for cheap, disposable fashion has led to a cycle of overconsumption that damages ecosystems, strains natural resources, and contributes to significant waste.
Re-examining fashion also involves acknowledging its influence on societal norms and expectations. Clothing can perpetuate stereotypes, reinforce gender roles, and contribute to issues of body image and self-esteem. Challenging these norms by embracing diverse styles and body types promotes inclusivity and acceptance.
To create a more positive impact, we need to shift towards sustainable and ethical fashion practices that prioritize quality over quantity, fair labor, and eco-friendly materials. Personal responsibility, such as choosing clothing that aligns with values of sustainability and supporting brands that promote ethical practices, can contribute to a larger movement that redefines the industry’s standards. In this way, fashion can evolve from a force that divides and harms into one that unites and uplifts.
I agree, but I believe that innovation in fashion, the real innovation is not to produce more clothes. I love fashion and even supporting a 'sustainable brand' is still not enough. The world doesn't need more clothes, we have crossed that line a long time ago.
Yes agree!!!!
That is why I buy clothes in second hand very often and if my family doesn't need some clothes any more I share with other people, who really need it .
We use fashion not only the consumption of it ,but also the creation of it to express who we are and the way we want to live. Fashion is not a static element, who we are is not a static element , these things change and evolve over time . Somethings will remain constant but other will move. In this way you can pin point the changes in your own life by the changes thro your closet. Things that have stuck with me over the years, things that I have let go ,and new things that brings me joy when I discovered them. The democratisation by fashion means that we now have the power to Express who we are and the way we want to live. The importance and diversity of expressing ourselves thro our clothes and what we wear will and only increase, because fashion is taking a new phase with our cultures, ideals while the same time showcasing our individuality, our diversity and our aspirations . Fashion is one component of our freedom ,of individual identity, our capacity, creativity, and our past.
Oh... my... god... did it make you feel alive to have kinda screamed out a deep cry of justice through what you wrote? Dont get me wrong it really doesnt mean anything, like at all, however some sort of grit has transpired through your keyboard, wonder if you celebrated after that!
People needs sustainable fashion not a fast fashion.
Are you tripping right now? Why not renewable fashion, eco friendly fashion, organic fashion, unfashionable fashion, fashion currency... wtf mate, tripping hard haha
LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD THE CASE FOR PLAYING DRESS UP THIS IS MY LIFE AND I FEEL CONFIDENT
High 5!
I now see why she says the fashion industry is obsolete. I have to agree with a lot of her points. Her outfit is interesting.
I live her passion and her transparency! It really helps me to understand her perspective and to see new value in what she does.
The choice of colours and standing on that red mat is ❤
We all adorn our bodies with something.
Wow.
mainly our ignorance despite the mirror? :)
I don't know why it moved me so much but it literally made me cry... :D
You should watch the Exorcist, never out of fashion and it does move literally, figuratively and physically speaking!
I shop thrift shops. That said, I wear men's cargo pants because they are sturdier, more comfortable, more utilitarian, And cheaper than women's pants. The rest is just determined by: Weather, Work, And how sturdy it is. I won't go broke buying clothes.
A real impressive message to the society about fashion✌
I do minimalist clothing, the recycled bottles, the handmade items, and the vintage stuff. I went on vacation and ripped a vintage shirt. I had to shop at a Target. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I tried on 8 outfits and chose 3 items. I wish that sustainability was this easy.
Just love your talk. Its so wonderfully put 2gether
She looks so good. I love her fashion sense
Fashion showcases our individuality ❤
Loved her speech
Fashion change the world, absolute right
She makes points beyond what she wears. I listen to her openly, she has alot to say.
We all wear clothes. Why not like what you wear?
Powerful. Thank you. 🙏🏼
I love her outfit!
I don't get what she's pitching. She said she does not understand the concept of sustainability, and that vintage won't solve our problems, so.... why is she creating a company? To make more clothes? To innovate, but why? and how?
Same thing I was thinking. I was waiting for her to make a specific point with clear examples/anecdotes. Why do we need innovation? What does she think innovation is? Fashion can also be used to separate and marginalize people, what are her thoughts about that? Does she want better pay for the actual tailors vs someone who drew a design? Fashion is not only the clothes you wear but hand, foot, headwear and accessories. I have more questions after watching this. I was disappointed especially knowing she has a PhD.
@@Akilahfoye yes, exactly! disappointing, really
That's why I disliked this video. I do not believe for a second she cares about sustainability. I think she only gave this talk to promote her company. P.S.: I don't care about sustainability either, but I didn't click on this video to hear about this topic (the title is quite misleading).
At 9:43, she said "inccasions"!😂 Sorry, had to get that out of the way! All kidding aside, Ms. Jennifer Millspaugh is a bright, beautiful young lady(with legs for days) and I respect and resignate with her perspective on looking at "Fashion"👔👞👗👠 as a metaphor for our personal identity! People don't like to admit it, but were judged on our appearance! It tells the outside World 🌎 who were are or who we are aspiring to be!👍
Wow what an excitement. I can easily hear her deep breathing 😮💨
Thank You 💓💞🥰🙏
SO true and well put... loved this...
Great talk loved it💝
Fantastic
This is a masterful piece. I read a book with akin material that opened my eyes wide. "The Art of Meaningful Relationships in the 21st Century" by Leo Flint
Fantastic ❤️❤️❤️👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
So basically you're trying to ponder the same issues that Gandhi spoke very clearly on.
He promoted people learning how to do their own Manufacturing the idea was to find self employment
But more then that to find their pride in their own work and to learn the value of others such as those who make fine clothing.
woooow, yeah, omg your brain needs serious reformating, what a mess in your files :)
I wish people would understand my love for fashion as well. No one takes it seriously in my family :(
Beautiful words

Inspiring speech, great insights and an awesome outfit :). I see on your LinkedIn profile that you are "an entrepreneurial researcher, studying how new business models and enterprise functions are created, built and adopted as innovation". Did you ever research how new, innovative, sustainable brands with new sustainable models never manage to get funding to even get a chance to be born? Being from the industry I know of many of them...
She has great figure. She can wear whatever she feels like to. It's very convenient to be fit so that you can wear new styles to please yourself and people around you.
tru
I disagree
She seems pear shaped so her outfit seems to balance that out.
Fight Club promotes "the ability to let that which does not matter truly slide". How do I develop that ability?
Beautiful outfit
This is good but I think she should have made it clear that many people already take fashion seriously, probably more women than men.
Well it matters on the person........mostly.
People take it seriously with their time and money, while at the same time downplaying and mocking it
I do not get the outfit…. Maybe someone can explain it? Maybe I am very old fashioned and conservative
She has chosen colours that don't compete with each other and suits her features (complexion, hair, eye colour) and personality - think of it as a painting if that helps. The lengths/drapes also highlight her silhouette.
Good luck !
k
I'm a nudist. But I'm openly goth.
What a hero
hilarious !
However, new fashion has also some disadvantages like original cultal appropriation and erosion, financial strains, and environmental issues
Amazing
If consumers really really want sustainability, they have to pay more money. The brands need to pay suppliers enough money to make sustainable products. The reality is that brands request "Make Sustainable Item. Use Less Water, Chemical, and Materials". "Did you make it happen? Now will pay you less money because you will spend less money". What an ironic and silly reality is that?
We all are not desperate enough and not ready to live with true sustainability yet.
I like her and her speech, but why is she dressed as the Brazilian flag?
KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK VEI
She tried to be fashionable hehe but great talk

FASHION
Fashion Industry is making big money that probably your brother didn't noticed 😅
A cycle of obsessive entrepreneurs who ceaselessly produce, promote, and sell trends at the expense of nature, wildlife, human labor, and human dignity and by the beginning of the next "season", they stand in a safe corner and "intellectually" critisize their very own industry. This is the tragedy of the second most polluting industry in this world. Period.
In my opinion, fashion needs more complexity.
Nope. She didn't really think this out. She contradicts herself many times throughout this presentation.
For a profesional to talk about “fashion” what you wear is awful! It looks like a curtain!
She’s a professional in a creative industry and opinions are always subjective regardless of the number who share them.
I really like her passionate talk and admire her dedication but that outfit.. It's like she spent too much time and kept over-thinking her outfit with a mediocre closet to work with.
So its bad to spent so much time on picking the outfit? Why trying too hard is bad? If she wants to play wit( her clothes and have fun its her decision
@@adagalant5413 whoa I wrote this comment like a year ago and forgotten about it. To answer your question; it's not about how much time she literally spent on it since we can never know. It's that the outfit lacks cohesion and convey to others that her decisions and her choices were over-thought.
The narrators voice reminds of the alien twins, Kang or Kodo from the Simpsons. It strikes me as funny and a bit disturbing.
Omg that outfit..is thisnfashion..is generally a PhD in fashion?????that outfit is horrendous.....
I just wear cheap stuff I think looks cool to me
It disgraces humanity and environment and yourself as an individual.
Looks like she does too
olá colegas
Teleprompter ruins the confidence of speech to some extent
❤ㅔㅔ😊
Simplicity is key.something she's never heard of
its not the key for everyone, we aren’t all the same
Key for dressing boring, maybe, if that’s your cuppa tea
Key for everyone to feel good in their skin? Nope
Key for being appropriate in each and every occasion? Nope
Key to build a work uniform that will improve workers performance while aiding them in work? Also nope
And as someone from eastern block and being brought up in completely “simple”, grey uniformed cities lemme tell you all those grages and clean lines age poorly, look drab overtime and act debilitating to your mental health.
Not really what i thouht it will be. To me is sounds like she mentioned a lot of topics and expanded on one
I feel like she could have just talked with her little brother directly instead of seeking validation in a Ted talk 🤣😂
I respect her talk and her passion but her outfit just makes it hard to really focus and take her seriously.
It surely is an attention grabber. Might done it on purpose.
She looks like the Brazilian flag, it is weird.
I love her outfit and the colors are great, especially with her hair
I love her outfit
mắc cười quá haha
How embarrassing this topic is... did ted talk actually become bullies or a way to expose cringing bullshitters. Technically fashioin is what you bloody make of it, main train of thought is to make sure to have some sense of decency in your appearances... if people start to laugh at you on the street well then you have only yourself to blame!
Oh God you can get a PhD in fashion???? And yes Jennifer Millspaugh's outfit is not practical at all for an active person or any person in an office environment (your office chair would roll over that random piece of fabric hanging down there and snag on everything). Fashion is a horrible polluter, an incredible waste, and we don't need a small group of people in the world telling other people what to wear. Talk to me about fashion when you make attractive, comfortable and practical garments out of recycled/discarded clothing that may even have been rags, that people love and want to wear, and is in the reason of everyone's wallet. Then I will be impressed.
Cant take her seriously with that outfit LOL
I live what she’s wearing . Her top is beautiful
Love her clothes
Why is it all of these Ted Talkers are so dry with these speeches? Don't add jokes to your speech if you're not going to deliver it like you want to tell it. She got much better when she stopped trying to be funny and just let her passion speak.
k
What is she wearing!? It must be very dark in her closet or she has "designed" herself this strange creation.
I love it
that mustard thing she is wearing looks horrendous.
