There are some differences between master system and game gear: First off the music, sure it's the same but some tracks have beefed up like Turquoise Hill Zone, Sleeping Egg Zone, and Aqua Planet Zone but some are completely different like Gigapolis Zone and Intro Cutscene. The Game Gear version change the name of Gigalopolis Zone to Gigapolis Zone. Game Gear version has some of Act 3 stages of the rings have cut down. There's even a exclusive unused track that is only at the Game Gear version, that can be found on the sound test. Some of Presentation has slightly change in the Game Gear version.
4:53 no, it's not out of place, instead it actually makes sense - his tails do not break away from his body and stay in place while body is rotating, if you think about it. And Sonic Adventure follows this thing too
I didn't realise how many flaws there were until I saw this review on top of the insane lag/slow down. I agree about the story, presentation, artwork, and level layout being all over the place or too simple. I was surprised how Tails's flight control works. It's a shame about the character sprites here and there. Was nice to see the spin dash, super peel out, and special stages implemented in the 8-Bit series. I never understood how the speed works in this game, until the part at 11:12. The effect at 12:15 was amusing. 15:22 was the perfect save to bring on the remake, which was world class ever since the SAGE 2018 demo came out. Everything about it is spot on, apart from the two bugs shown in this video. Either way, looking forward to more updates on this fantastic project.
What a nice review, hope to see some more Sonic Chaos Remake news soon! :D Also, I think what makes Sonic looks weird in this game it's mostly his spikes along with his face.
My thoughts on the remake (v1.2.1, 2024): Pros: -Higher and smoother framerate, no slowdown, widescreen -Time trial and boss rush modes -Playable Knuckles -Slightly improved rocket shoes bonus levels - some added obstacles but you move too close to the screen to react to them and you can bounce into most of them and still beat the levels -Save feature (multiple slots) -Tighter turning while using the rocket shoes (you still lose them from flying into an item box though) -Can start flying after jumping as Tails (flight is also Joust-style like in the 16-bit games) -Can actually stop fully in a slope here -Unlock a level select after beating the game (so if you missed getting the emerald in a level you should be able to go back and get it) -Can unlock Super Sonic? (didn't seem to work for me) Mixed/ambivalent about: -Tails and Sonic can jump after falling off of a platform (similar to Donkey Kong Country) - makes platforming easier overall -Inconsequential additional options Cons: -Can't look up/down here and the camera seems somewhat tighter when jumping? Was a bit tight already, making it harder to see where you'll land -Slow down a bit from spindashing down a slope -Not enough horizontal acceleration when starting to move -If you hold right when rolling up the very first slope, your avatar stops and starts pushing against the slope when near the top. This happens again in some later levels -Weird and annoying how you fall through boss 2 onwards after hitting their weak spot here - could've just made it harder to repeatedly bounce on them or increased their invincibility time a bit (or better yet, add more movement patterns) -Bug where you die when the first boss spawns if you fly into its arena -Bug where Sonic won't get out of ball form after landing on a higher platform if the jump is very tight (one of the bonus levels) -Bug: In some parts of level 3 it's as if a force is pushing Sonic in the other direction in a few parts -Much slower movement in corkscrews -Bug: The camera wouldn't scroll back down when entering some boss fights from above -Unskippable staff roll -Somewhat easier level 5 boss and final boss
The original sonic chaos was my first sonic game ever along with spinball in a plug n play pack, but chaos was the very first. that plug n play put me on the path to the sonic fan I am.
It was the first Sonic game I ever owned. Me and my dad was at the his friends place and there he had Sonic 1 and 2 for the Master System. Lets say we had a blast, so one say he saw someone was selling an used Sonic game and of course he got it. That is the story how I got Sonic Chaos
Wow, this is what I call an in-depth review. From now on please review everything and send all other TH-camrs home. Also, I was laughing several times, funny stuff
I had the ninja game too, and even though I hated always losing on the game, I always had to go back to it. As for Sonic Chaos, I remember buying this from Argos for £29.99 when it came out. I even completed the game on the first try too (Just like Sonic 2 on the Mega Drive, I used to play these games for hours on end). I thought this was a brilliant game for an 8 bit and I preferred this one to Sonic 2. Ah memories.
I bought a Sonic poster at PAX South thinking it was a legit sonic poster, but I saw it was the sonic chaos box art after reading the manuals on SMCP, with the only difference being it has the sonic 1 title copy and pasted over where it should say sonic chaos. I could say I was quite sad about that, but I really like the sonic chaos box art
I really liked this review. Expect one thing. I dont think that sonic chaos should be treated as a Master System game. It is infact a Game Gear game. With game gear capabilities in mind. With Master System port being an afterthought for european market. Hence why this version has lag issues. It simply wasnt made to work with Master System's higher resolution.
There's a lot I've cut from this (was originally 30 minutes) but one of them was about comparing the game on the Game Gear, and then on the emulator, and then on an SMS emulator, then forcing it to 50Hz as it's technically a European game, etc. All of them lagged, but the SMS was indeed the worse as I kind of mentioned in the review (I said the GG was a tad better). I also agree; I think this was a port to the SMS from the GG going by the art style and on how big the sprites are. Especially when you compare this to S1/S2. But I couldn't find any concrete proof on this so I left it out also.
Amazing episode, RHS! Well worth the wait for this one. And it was awesome getting to see a shoutout to A+Start and the team behind him for that Sonic Chaos Fan Remake. I'll see you at that Sonic Chaos GG stream!
Maybe because they made Sonic look bad in this game is because Tails is finally playable (Before sonic 3 was released) they though people would play as Tails more because he's a new character.
Thanks for giving me chance to talk more about our Sonic Chaos remake/reimagining. I really hope everyone enjoys the video.
Andy
Next update release date?
A+Start “giving me chance”
Please SON OF A GLITCH SONIC CHAOS VIDEO PLZ!
Thank you redhotsonic very epic
Yay dream team 😍
12:12 That's the Mirage Saloon mini boss. I love how that boss fight was actually remembered and put into Sonic Mania.

You're correct game gear is very different than Master system
Sonic 1 8-bit's backgrounds were masterpeices of minimalist art. It seems like they were going for that here as well.
Here's something I found myself:
Complete a level with exactly *10 rings* and less than *22 seconds*, and you will get *999 km/h* and a extra life
Well,Thats Broken

It's good to see your channel again RedHot. Thanks for still giving us joy and fun this year of 2019
And he is still amazing in 2021
Sonic Chaos is my favorite of the 8-bit Sonic games. Can't wait to see what you have to say about this entry.
I think Tails loses his tails in the classics because they show, in the 8 bit games, it seems like it is part of his body when he jumps
Amazing! Can't wait for more info from A+Start.

"They tried a new *aspect* and it really paid off"
Game: Created by Aspect.co
Me: Pun intended?
“Good Gracious! What have they done to you!?!” I know what they did...
derp...
Cool this is really nice to see you both covering such a masterpiece of a game
My thoughts on the remake (v1.2.1, 2024):
Pros:
-Higher and smoother framerate, no slowdown, widescreen
-Time trial and boss rush modes
-Playable Knuckles
-Slightly improved rocket shoes bonus levels - some added obstacles but you move too close to the screen to react to them and you can bounce into most of them and still beat the levels
-Save feature (multiple slots)
-Tighter turning while using the rocket shoes (you still lose them from flying into an item box though)
-Can start flying after jumping as Tails (flight is also Joust-style like in the 16-bit games)
-Can actually stop fully in a slope here
-Unlock a level select after beating the game (so if you missed getting the emerald in a level you should be able to go back and get it)
-Can unlock Super Sonic? (didn't seem to work for me)

-Bug where you die when the first boss spawns if you fly into its arena
-Bug where Sonic won't get out of ball form after landing on a higher platform if the jump is very tight (one of the bonus levels)
-Bug: In some parts of level 3 it's as if a force is pushing Sonic in the other direction in a few parts
-Much slower movement in corkscrews
-Bug: The camera wouldn't scroll back down when entering some boss fights from above
-Unskippable staff roll

What remake are you talking about? This one still hasn't been updated since 2018.
@@fishactivation5087 The one I mention in the parenthesis of course

Hey! I played the Sonic Chaos remake and changed the logo to "Sonic & Tails", the original title of the game (and it looked BEAUTIFUL, trust me).
I like listening to the soundtrack in 64.00 hz.
I had the ninja game too, and even though I hated always losing on the game, I always had to go back to it.

You're a real fast reader.
Also the remake added shields finally
Wait, ost by Michael Staple? Sonic BTS, ATS and Spark TEJ fame Michael Staple? Freakin' awesome, he made some of my favourite tracks for that game!
hell yeah, a great video by a great creator on my birthday!!!
This is a great review, redhotsonic.
Redesigned Movie Sonic: Are you challenging me?
RedHotSonic: *YES*
15:02 after some examination, it seems the slight momentum from pushing up brought you just a pixel short of the ring's hitboxes after a bit.
the fact that they put in the extra effort to implement the Super Peel Out in a Master System game is insane
Sonic looks great here

I loved the video and I loved how a+start interrupted redhotsonic that was too funny
Yo RedHot, have you heard Lil Boulder's remix of Aqua Planet? That shit is jammin
18:34 Sorry, I was lazy in the previous game; I'm gonna be lazy here too!
11:07 the music is taken on the instruction manual (1996)
You know, when you think about it, quality-wise at least, this is a Sonic CD 8-bit version
The only way I remember to play through this game is because it released on the same day as my Birthday XD
Oh, good for you.
Actually they call the Super Peel-Out the "Strike Dash" in this game.
Lol the Son of a glitch reference.
Speaking of which...
Yes finally we can not only spin dash but we can do the super peel out
Basically playing with tails is like playing with toadette in nsmbU
red hot sonic is now my favourite sonic tuber

redhotsonic how did you do your Sonic Chaos Live Stream With a real SEGA Game Gear?
The soundtrack in this game sounds almost one-to-one or inspired by Sonic 2 (8-bit).
I played this via Sonic Mega Collection +. And to be honest, this game is so amazing. But imagine this game getting a remake, like a 16 bit remake.
I commented so soon...
I wonder if redhotsonic knew that the chaos emeralds were to be used by eggman to create nukes and atom bombs
Wasn't the Master System discontinued in 1996?
BTW, Brazil still sells the Master System, if you didn't know.
Yeah, in fact I'm sure in Brazil the SMS went even longer into the 200's.
I like sprite of sonic of sonic chaos. It appear like old JP sonic art. cute!
CHAOS CHAOS!
*No mention of the super peel out? Really?*
He did mention the SPO. Did you even watch the video?
The Sonic's sprites in this game give me the creeps
I love a+start

A shame there haven't been any updates of the remake since then. so many years
A+start is one of my favrot cafifter
oops i mean fav youtuber
0:50 North America and Japan got Game Gear version
sonic's design in sonic chaos is actually was made to look like the mega drive/genesis design but in 8 bit and the same is said with tails.
if this was helpful then heart this comment or like :)
A+Start worked on the remake? I guess that helps explain why his upload schedule has been so sporadic in recent years
Wasn't the Game Gear the hand-held version of the Master System?
Are you gonna add the 7 emeralds and super sonic?
Everywhere but Brasil stopped making games for master system
Awesome
@redhotsonic I love you man, but please make a sonic chaos livestream the near future.
Edit: I forgot red hot sonic had no caps so I took care of that
Hi dude
Oh!
MAN SONIC CHAOS FORM THE MASTER SYSTEM IS LIKE SONIC 3 TIMELINES KNOWN AS SONIC 3 SMS REMAKE
Sonic Chaos makes me feel like it's Sonic CD The demake
FOR THE LOVE OF MONKEY TRUMPETS!!!
That remake looks better than Sonic Mania. It is absolutely amazing.
It doesn't look like Sonic Advance to me.
@@notspider-man7777 On closer look, I agree, but just looking at it, I still maintain that it is a beautiful remake.

Any update or news about sonic chaos remake so far??????
I was just playing sonic3&knuckles
Do you like jungle zone or chaos angel better
Is It just me or is Sonic Chaos title screen the same as intro to sonic 2 sms
2:01 Scrambled Egg remix
A start sounds like hes making a Son of a glitch video
Yes Yes Yes!
Is that why a+start came to the server
I see what they did, all they did was get all the sonic games sprite fixtres, and then slaped it into a game!
15:23 that’s son of a b-
Did this get released on megadrive ?
I guess the graphicd is a "CHAOS"
“Chaos”
*control*
The best zone in this game is the second one....... mainly because it was named after me xd
I think the Sonic sprite is fine
08:18 Sonic 06 music?
woah!!!!

The reason sonic looks like this is because of budget cuts!
Finally I got to use this joke
I'm Waiting...
