This is a good demonstration video of how to use a baton and when to use it for beginners. Sucks that most cops these days don't use batons that often when restraining a criminal. I know there's other options like taser or pepper spray but a baton is more effective when striking on their weak spots of the body. Like shown here for example. 2:38
I've practiced a bit with my 16" baton, and it always feels more natural to hold the baton in my right hand but over my left shoulder with my elbow up. This lets me use it in closer quarters and sets me up to strike at their dominant side. They'll instinctively raise their dominant arm to protect their head, and the baton will break that arm. (I've added weights to the tip and end segment to increase the chance of breaking bone.) I'm not LEO, just a guy who lives in a city and doesn't want to get jumped by a pack of wild man-sized teenagers. The plan is to use it and run, not to stick around and explain myself to police.
in that position it would be extremely easy to prevent you from swinging the baton. the idea of having the weak arm forward and baton hand back is to prevent the bad-guy from stopping you swing the stick
HawkGTboy it is cool you do the practicing and i understand why you want it but you do know in some city's and states you have to have a permit for a baton otherwise it is a big fine or even a felony the course is not that hard to take if you want to take the course you should first go to your local PD and ask if you need it then if you do ask where it is i highly recomened getting the permit it saves alot of hassle if you get stopped by the police
+topkev Completely agree. Also, if the assailant is armed, one solid strike at his exposed elbow may effectively render his arm holding the weapon useless.
Thank you very much for posting this video. It is the best type of instruction.... protects both the defender and attacker... You see no one minds any one defending themselves especially if it is done in a professional manner. This is fantastic training. Thank you PublicResourceOrg..
One update that has occurred since this training videos date, is that one should not back step when deploying the baton, rather they should strafe and pivot to get them selves out of the attackers line of force.
Thanks. When we went to the ASP (expandable baton) we got a little PC scared. Started training hitting large muscle groups. Don't work. And all you patrol guys know it . It is a great tool, however, you need to hit JOINTS!!! not large muscle!!!!. I took down a big!!! canadian with strikes to the shins, elbow and collar bone. The practice is to try and bend the baton. That is how you know it works. Hit the joints!!!!
You aim for the large muscle groups. If you happen to hit the joint, well things happen in the field during use of force incidents. But you are always aiming for the large fatty padded muscle groups. You know that and so do I
@SonOfFumfr certificationa nd recertifican is ALWAYS required in EVERY state for ANY weapons and equipment that law enforcement and security officers are using it doesnt mean that civilians must be certified to own or use them
Asp expandable baton invented in early 1990's for all countries includes u.s. and other countries were includes various batons pr24 fixed version or collapsible version
@ultimatefrisbee92 actually, he is correct. with an expandable type baton the most striking force will be at the tip of the baton and not in the middle ( the farther away from your hand the more leverage and the more leverage=more power)
This Officer , if not successful with the various baton strikes , has , in fact , another option. Most likely , the mean , determined facial expressions he exhibits , are enough of a deterrent against the most determined aggressors. PS - The intimidating mustache , assists immeasurably , to psychologically wear down even the most violent criminals. 😂
Just block with jodan uke and then small power hit to the neck, take to musch time block with to hands on the batong, then your wide open, always have a gard, no matter what, you can never take back a hit, and every hit can be your death, always gard.
Are you really this stupid? It lubricates. If you weren't such a fucking idiot, you would have picked up on the part where they mentioned the purpose of using it was to get rid of moisture and the prevention of rust.
We call it a "Spanish baton"...or in the words of my people "ne spaanse matrak". Never really researched if it was actually typically from Spain though...
Pretty sure WD-40 is formulated with oils and is definitely marketed as a penetrating oil. Is it heavy duty? No. Is it likely enough to keep rust off of a stainless steel baton? Definitely.
Excessive force may not be justified but police have continually demonstrated that they can get away with murder with no repercussions at all. The United States citizens should be extremely weary of those weak mean and women who seek power.
LMFAO @4:34 hahahhahahaa. dude puts up his dukes when the cops have guns hahahahhaha. His "Partner" is just watching how the fake fight plays out hahah
A baseball bat generates a lot of force/pain because the weight is in the tip. How much force can be generated in a collapsible baton when the weight is in the handle and the tip is small and lightweight? Videos like this are useless words. Start smacking some wooden dowels of various sizes so we can see the effect of hitting bone with the tip.
Kimmy abold that's a joke, you can't take out your cellular telephone and call the police when an attacker is right in front of you. an attacker at that point would go towards you aggressively to steal the cellular telephone and gravely assault you. don't take chances, for the police take too long. you need to defend yourself at the time and place.

WOW! Best baton training video I ever seen, thank you very much!
Sounds like he's yelling "Daaaayum" when they're demonstrating strikes at 6:45
Beat me to it.

Actually they do cover that in this video. They suggest lateral movement. We learned it at the Academy over 20 years ago
Haha np :P instructionvideos from the 90's is sooo awesome!

As a Krav Maga practitioner I like the way they stress rotating the hips for full power strikes.
Time to become Aiden Pearce...

Sleeping dogs get the law enforcer dlc wear csi outfit comes with expandable baton
+rehfeuge ahhhh same bro lmao
I bought an extendable baton today halfly because of that game
Tbh this is the greatest weapon ever made, so basic, yet so badass and deadly.
Right on. Just know your tactics and basic training and you'll have the advantage against the attacker.

That mustache would suck a man dry
As soon as he said "baton shaft" my ability to take the video seriously deteriorated. "Baton" lol
@mjmcg it has the greatest velocity at the tip but it has less force. i think 1/3 of the way from the tip provides the best velocity and force.
Extremely effective in case of zombie apocalypse
LOL! That too
"BAAAAM!" XD
Excellent video.
actually they're the reason why alot of departments use expanding batons and not the old ones...more friendly image.
5:11 look at the flick of that wristttt.
4:11 aww yeah polish that shaft
It looks like the officer in the video shouts "DAMN!" when showing the strikes
buenisimo el baston extensible. Grosooooooooooooo

Is it me or does the officer demonstrating the techniques at around 6.53 shout 'BAM' when he strikes?
@fuggsakes u got a good point
What length are the batons in this video?
"You are under arrest, get down on the ground"
Literally the criminal: 😏🔪
Look at the date dude. The video is from 1997.
I just cannot stop watching his face. That mustache...
@viciousKev
I think it's 16 inches
Nowadays, that thing is only really used as a glass breaker, because they can just pop you with the Taser.
@boilerup65 Where did you buy it?
so you have to say damn before hitting the target???
Technically speaking, yes, it appears you do.
WD-40 is *NOT* a lubricant, damn it!
Are you really this stupid?
It lubricates. If you weren't such a fucking idiot, you would have picked up on the part where they mentioned the purpose of using it was to get rid of moisture and the prevention of rust.
Savage
Really ? Are you certain ?
@@ScottGarland-r4v "WD" stands for "Water Displacement." It displaces water, not really for lubrication ...
@silentknight2112 Look up "Peacekeeper baton" for info on that.
Also know as the Go-longer Stick!

It's not from Spain and your people are a bunch of dumbfucks that won't even speak English when they're in an English speaking country.

WD 40 is not oil or a lubricant, it is a water displacer, thus the WD name.
Pretty sure WD-40 is formulated with oils and is definitely marketed as a penetrating oil. Is it heavy duty? No. Is it likely enough to keep rust off of a stainless steel baton? Definitely.
Not too bright, are ya? WD is made with oils. All oils are water displacement; hence the reason water and oil don't mix.
1997 or 1987?
Am i the only one who started busting up laughing at 6:52 ; Talk about adding INSULT to injury

It's pretty lame how self defense batons are illegal in California.

That's why most leo's get hurt with people who know how to fight. Unrealistic technics .
This video said to hold the baton with your gun hand, but keep it placed on your non gun side.
Yep, and that is correct. If you've ever used a baton in real life, then you know.
give it enough force dude
