Just had some in a restaurant in Sabah 5 minutes ago. They are a staple for the Kadazan-dusun people. They call these "worms" - butod here. They look scary as hell but they really taste quite pleasant. Eat it live, they are yummmy!

I'll be honest, my ancestors lived from the mountains, I've seen them eat livestock as well as monkeys, bats and birds, but never have I ever seen them eat an insect.
I know because I asked, I'm a city boy and I think it's just what people are used to do, not about the region.

I agree!! They definitely are not a delicacy, I’d never in my wildest dreams pay to eat one. Fellow kiwi here btw. Had one roasted when I went to primary school 20 years ago. Survival tip in the bush yep, but even then I’d rather not 😅🤣🤣 made me laugh when she took ages to eat it
