- Please be advised that like certain shellfish, some people may be unable to safely consume insects due to dietary allergies.
Take a deep breath and come prepared with an open mind because today Joseph Yoon from Brooklyn Bugs is teaching us how to eat (almost) every edible insect there is. Now, we know what you're thinking - aren't tarantulas and scorpions arachnids, not insects? Also, why are you doing this Epicurious? First, yes but come on. And second - trust us. A vital and ecologically important world of food can be yours to enjoy with just a little guidance.

How To Eat Every Insect | Method Mastery | Epicurious - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Thank you to everyone who took the time to watch or comment. While a personal motivation and inspiration for my work is derived from finding sustainable solutions for feeding the burgeoning population of the world, it is also really fascinating and delicious! There are over two thousand species of edible insects with wildly different flavor profiles, textures, and functionality--as a chef, think about how fun it is for me to work with so many new ingredients! Let me leave you with this thought - if even ten percent of you ate edible insects just once a week, even that would have a great impact on the environment. Respectfully yours, Chef Joseph Yoon

I don’t get why people say “your truth” there’s just the Truth no?
The phrase "his truth" and/or "my truth" clearly tell me that it's not actually true
So people talk about how bugs have an amazing amount of protein compared to meat or other foods, the way we ESTIMATE protein in food is by nitrogen content.
Bugs, by mass, contain a huge amount of chitin, the exoskeletons of crickets and the skin of worms and stuff, and chitin is a polysaccharide with amine groups attached, so it's got a pile of nitrogen in it. It is completely indigestible and it's NOT protein.
Some may say the people measuring protein content wouldn't make that mistake, but obviously we can't trust them to accurately represent their findings, they're the people telling you to eat boogs after all.
Incidentally, chitin is an antigen in humans, it causes an immune reaction because the body uses its presence to infer a parasite or a yeast infection, so whilst it won't inherently "give you" cancer or any other disease, eating lots of chitin would very likely reduce your immune response to other illnesses.
@@QTwoSix dude people have been eating bugs since the dawn of humanity ofc some are bad for us but im sure there are healthy bugs to eat.

3:20 fun fact
Insects, scorpions, spiders, crabs are all arthropods but belong to different classes.
Insects - insecta
Spiders and scorpions - arachnida
Crabs and shrimps - crustacea.
Technically yes but they are still more closely related than other insects and stuff
@@anthraxmacabre5200 eh, not really. simple way to tell is that spiders and scorpions have 4 pair of legs, where adult insects only have 3 pairs, hence the group name "Hexapods"
Arthropods have mainly 4 groups
Insects (Hexapods);
Myriapods (including centipedes and millipedes);
Arachnids (including spiders, mites and scorpions);
Crustaceans (including slaters, prawn and crabs).
Spiders are not related to crabs nor other insects, if it relates to anything it relates to scorpions.

Insects do tend to have a somewhat nutty flavor profile though. They're not all the same. Like, you wouldn't confuse an almond for a walnut. But there is that kind of earthy-woody quality that gives nuts their flavor, which insects share. Its legit food, if you can shake off your cultural biases.

I think grinding them into a powder and putting them in any kind of sauce would be effective. Like spaghetti sauce
imagine eating a corn fritter and being like "mmm are these black beans? :)" and then homeboys like acTUALLY-
Those are fighting words 🤣🤣
Someone tells me i ate bugs im putting my dukes up
I'm squaring up if someone puts bugs in my food. 🤨
I wonder if any of the people who are so vehemently against bugs eat shrimp, lobster, clams, and various other arthropods the only difference being they're aquatic.
@@ryhmetravila8085They're close-minded idiots. Don't mind them.
He’s the type of guy that would complain “theres a food in my bugs”
lol
I am both intrigued and frightened. I'd love to give them a shot and do it with some friends but I think I might be the most open to it of my friends. No way could I get a campus event to feature bugs, really cool though and I hope to try them in your restaurant !
Imagine this dude at the family potluck.
Everyone: "That's awesome how you made the Spider shaped fries"
This dude: 😈🙈🙉🙊
"Wow, good job those spider shaped fries were a real hit."
Him: 😅
I am a bit sceptical about whole insect diet - but - your comment gave me an idea. Those would be realy great at a halloween family gathering - suprise your guests with some fried tarantua!
Imagine this at Halloween

@@meingoobby8231 what is that
The other way round. They’re easy to farm, so if we continue destroying the planet industrial farms might have to switch to insects
Normally I wouldn't even consider eating bugs, but this guy's energy levels are so high that I'd try any of the things he cooked up in this video. If I ever get the chance, maybe I'll give an insect dish a try
They taste nasty bro, trust me lol.
@@ub3rfr3nzy94 have you tried insects before?
@@dylancrozier84 i have its not necessarily nasty its just a really strong veryy strange taste verryyy Strang especially Spiders they tastee reallyy odd not bad odd😂😂
Everyone’s tastes are different and all of the insects seem to taste different too so there’s nothing wrong with giving it a shot! Crickets would probably be a good place to start since it seems like a staple in so many places :)
I used to one, its a roasted larvae from beetle. While they kept destroying our coconuts, we took their child and roast them alive
Satisfaction, yes
Not today, WEF! Not today...
I love how this guy is just making Mac and cheese and burgers out of bugs casually
That is literally the whole idea of how we can best incorporate edible insects into our diets--as a protein supplement in foods that we already know and love! Thanks for watching!
