You won’t get much stretch with the paper raffia yarn so i wouldn’t worry too much. Having worked with a paper raffia before, you may actually like the way the single or double crochet works up :) if you want the vertical stripes try making it sideways!

That bag would look great in Tunisian crochet, which has many dense stitches without little holes. TL yarn crafts has many tutorials on tunisian crochet, and I think stripes look really cool in those stitches. I also find it easier on my hands/joints than crocheting a big piece of dense fabric.

You can always crochet a big rectangle and then fold it with enough for a base and then connect with the sides in order to achieve a vertical stripe

I think this might be the approach I take!

I have used Linked Double Crochet to make bags, phone cases, and potholders. It creates a wonderful dense fabric and there are a lot of tutorials online. It is easier to work in a circular pattern, however I have worked it flat by alternating a row of Single Crochet and then a row of Linked Double Crochet, and it looks seamless. Linked Double Crochet is easy to learn.

The linen stitch is a beautiful flat non stretchy crochet stitch and would be good I think!

I always love sitting here listening to people talk about all the tank tops and tee shirts they're going to make this summer while working on a sweater lol I've enjoyed tank tops and tee shirts in the past but I never really "knit to season" so all my summer knitting plans this year are sweaters and woolly socks

Haha I feel like I’m always racing to get my seasonal knits done in time to still get some wear out of them!

Love that striped crochet bag. Such a great idea to add interest to summer outfits, this is something I struggle with.

I'm working up something in the off-white tynn line right now! It's such an incredible yarn- it doesn't seem very special in the ball, but once it starts becoming fabric, it has a texture that I can only describe as "like whipped cream"

I just finished a summer tank in an 80/20 merino silk blend. I’ve only worn it twice, but I’ve been as comfortable as you can be with temperatures over 90 and high humidity.

I don't know anything about crochet, but i came across the Large beach raffia bag by Olha Bilyk on Ravelry, i'm not sure if the stitch is what you were looking for, but it has vertical stripes and that big parallelepiped shape you were looking for I think. I'm very curious to follow your progress, those bags are gorgeous!

I think you’re gonna love the tynn line yarn 😊 I’ve made a tombo tee out of it. While watching your video I am working on a barbroe blouse in the exact colorway you’ve got :) It’s my favorite summer yarn by far! Excited for your projects!

First vid of yours I’ve caught and glad the algorithm sent it to me. I’ve knitted for a long time but still feel like a newby, lol.

not a crochet stitch but a pattern: La Millerighe Raffia Bag by the knitting sciura is on my list! it uses raffia and for me is the absolute perfect summer bag that's still chic!

Those colors for the Triceratops are gorgeous! I can't wait to see how it turns out. I'm also in love with the Blueberry Icecream colorway from KFO, and I'm currently working up a Sailor Swift top with the contrast stripe in Japanese Anemone also in the cotton merino base. So far I absolutely love it - it's so light and airy - my first time working with this base!

Thank you! I am thrilled so far with the dinosaur, and I find myself itching to work on it a lot so I can get to the assembly stage. I’m also so happy that you’re enjoying the cotton merino! It’s a desert island yarn for me 100%

Slip stitch in crochet may be for you, It has no stretch, very dense and simple.. Thank you for another lovely video! I have to compliment you on how beautiful ly you speak, just love listening to you as you articulate so well and have a rather broad vocabulary, this is a rarity.

I think the easiest way to do the striped bag would be to make a long rectangle with the stripes going on the short edge. Then join into a tube and attach to a circular or oval base.

raffia has little to no stetch, and it can also be rather harsh on your hands so even if you have a loose tension, there is little difference in the stretch of the garment. it makes a beautiful fabric with single or half-double crochet. i can certainly recommend alternating single and double crochet if you want more texture of the double crochet + the sturdiness of single crochet. half-double crochet is my sweet spot though!

    • @allanamakesthings
      @allanamakesthings 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

Agreed! A half double would be my pick for the bag as well 😊

hey :) i love your videos! about the CROCHET STITCHES:
from the "normal" and easy stitches i would recommend the single crochet stitch the most because it is not very stretchy. You can also line the bag as it takes away all the strech. but there is another stitch that is less stretchy than every other crochet stitch i know. it is called the *THERMAL STITCH*. it is used for bags and especially the handles of crochet bags. i lerned it from tiktok but here is a YT tutorial: th-cam.com/video/_NeKe_vhToE/w-d-xo.html
i do have to say that the thermal stitch is a rather slow working stitch because you work half rows and not a full row. it this is fine for you it will be worth it!
