I love how you like your own comment lmao. Also, you should make a video on Kita ^^ It would be interesting to see you use a different platform than photoshop :)
Thank you ergojosh. I been having a hard time in life the last few years and your video makes it better. You alwyas make me learn something new. Thank you for being here on TH-cam.
An advice I can give to anyone who is struggling with colours is: be daring. Use colours that you'd usually never use to shade. For example instead of using white or a lighter hue to convey light use red, blue or any other colour. See what works and what doesn't. Experimentation is the key to success in art.
Recently got some interesting advice that made it easier for me to process things. The basic gist of it is to unify temperatures as you would values. Cool light means warm shadow and warm light means cool shadow as a general rule. Haven't really experimented much with it yet but it has made me look at things differently.
Is there a way to do this in Autodesk Sketchbook? Edit: Nevermind, I checked the description and there's a link to a website that also generates palettes.
im just watching you while i'm pretty high and it's just pleasure to hear your voice with the jazzy music playing in the background... and still learning my god
A limited colour palette is great to understand light and value more, I feel like when I started working digitally it was difficult because I had tooooo many options 😆
Im gonna do it, im committing to buying your brush set. You’ve helped me improve so much as an artist, especially as I am still transitioning to digital art.
I’ve been struggling with colour for a while now, I’ve always been a bit overwhelmed when it comes to taking the plunge and going for it. Thanks so much for making this video! I’m still a little overwhelmed with the ui, but this is a great great start. Thanks man!
This is a game changer for actually learning how to paint realism and break down all of what was mixed during the blending process. Even with real pictures like what you did here would teach you how to mix colors the proper way. Thanks for sharing.
Man, how many times have I made a gif, seen that little palette and never thought twice about it, what a neat trick! Thank you for uploading! Also, you could narrate literally anything and I would be ENTRANCED...what a smooth nice voice.
Bro I know this is an older video but THANK YOU SO MUCH for this. I have a horrible habit of starting pieces, getting the main focus of the image pretty much finished and then going completely into a 'writers block' like stage to where I can't decide where I want to go with the paintings or what I want to add to help get details or context. Eventually I get stuck for so long I just completely lose motivation and interest and add to the ever growing list of failed and incomplete projects. The absolute biggest factor in this was creating or envisioning a fluid color palette/swatch that would help blend and create a more engaging and interesting pieces. Again man THANK YOU. You have no idea how helpful this simple process is to me.
So glad I clicked on this vid, I learned a lot thank you. Hopefully I can mimic it in clip studio. Also your voice is like butter with your set up and my expensive headphones
i am just diving into digital painting for the second time in my life (i kept avoiding it bc its intimidating lol) and this sounds pretty helpful thank you!!
I’ve been working in photoshop for years, since the early versions for retouching and later for illustration/painting... how am I only learning this now?? Thanks man, time and life saver!
oh, I do that too! the way I do it is that I take a ref pic of more or less what type and color of light do I want to use, then I play a bit with color balance setting to make it more of what I want to achieve with that colors, then I eyedrop the colors, for eg. skin shadow, skin midtone, skin highlights, then hair shadows, midtones, etc, etc. But now I think I like your method better. Great vid
I’ve heard of some digital art programs having a feature that pixelates an image, and that’s a cool way to get colors also. I’ve seen some artists use this method where they reduce a photo to 6 different colored pixels
So helpful I’m an artist I usually just do things in my own unique way but I wanted to learn the more strategic and digital art forms because I want to start learning a variety
Thank you Josh! You're the man! I always just pre-chose 12 and worked on a base 12 palette. Then if I need to add colors from there I do based on the 12.
This is exactly where I am with regards to learning how to color digitally. You’ve verbalized it perfectly! It’s about finding the hue of those subtle grays. I like to pick the color I think it is, and then color, and then shift the hue around until I find what looks right to me. Color palettes are just a quicker, and probably better way of getting there!
Ommgggg I have been using the GIF function for a while now but I never realised about this feature!!! I struggle to get the colors right too and honestly palettes do come a long way in making art... Thanks for this video :""") This was helpful :"")
Glad you changed the studio, ive been drawing under a table lamp with my laptop and phone and the light exposure was really messing me up mentally. Drawing in a white room, white space with all lights on you is gonna be hell after a week. Shojumaru art tips...
I’ve always been really nervous about using color, I’m colorblind and I’ve been experimenting for a while but feel like I can’t fully grasp things. This video is super helpful though! Thank you!!!
I didn't abandon digital art, but... I went back to traditional for a while. I picked up my paintbrushes again. I don't care how bad of a painter I am or was I really love the process. I like digital art too and it is much less expensive but not as gratifying. Thanks for the color advice. I love color palettes with limited colors.
@0:50 ergo josh discovers color palettes! One key to remember id to not over mix your colors! Keeping a palette less mixed can add to the style contrast and hue!
Is there a way to do this in Procreate? I’m over Adobe lol. It was a little hard to see what was going on because everything was really small, but I’m wondering if that’s something that can’t be helped? I was on my phone so my screen is smaller.
Thanks for the video Josh! I use Krita, so how I get the same effect is a bit different, but I would not have ever thought to use this kind of functionality when figuring out colors. Definitely going to use this tip. Stay grinding!
Hey Ergo josh! This is a very helpful video 😄 I’m soon getting an iPad Pro so it’s nice to learn some things about digital art before. I’m wondering if it’s also possible to create such a color palette in procreate?
Hey bro I'm a big fan, I have been thinking about starting digital art and watched your vid. U officially convinced me to get a 2 in one😂 (laptop and tablet with a stylus). I'm stuck on what to get now. Was wondering if you could make a vid covering your suggestions on these topics plz?

i HIGHLY recommend CGMA - i took a few character design classes from them and wow i learned so much! highly highly recommend!!
Ooh yes paint with a color palette!!

To add to this try using greyish colors! From my experience so far, all these colors are what I would have thought before except wayyy less saturated.
@@ergojosh Ohh I've never tried that! I will definitely give it a go next time I do some studies.
his setup is so a e s t h e t i c and i love it 💕
Thank you! Next time it will be even better and dust free lol.

I’m a traditional artist but I still love the vids 🔥
We're glad to have you!

Velvet Bear if u want a big tablet but as good as wacom, just but a tablet form xp-pen artist. Just as good and cheaper
I'm a traditional and digital artist! His videos are really useful and entertaining to watch
me, who doesn't draw but uses photoshop every single day : FINALLY A USE TO THIS GIF FEATURE
I’ve been thinking about Yeji a lot recently and what do I see? Ergojosh using her as a reference...
I LIKE THIS WORLD
Same bruh
same, oh my god....dude
*_laughs in colorblind_*
Im screaming at this comment. Thanks
lmao
I pissed on my phone
My colorblind friend colors a character's hair green because he sees it as yellow...
@@Circurose i sometimes color the skin green because i see it as skincolor...
Was coloring my drawing when the notification popped up. Great timing haha!
Perfect!
Your artstyle looks sooooo nice in colour.
Is there a way to do this in Autodesk Sketchbook?

Thanks for the heart!
Thank you for asking this question!

This is such a cool tip! I paint a lot of portraits and this will be so helpful! Thank you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH JOSH!! IT REALLY HELPS ME TO COLOR,, I USUALLY SPEND LIKE 5 MINS JUST TO DECIDE WHAT COLOR I SHOULD USE 😭😭
I don't do digital. But I like to watch your videos. You have nice voice and good advices :D

In Affinity (Photo/Designer) you can generate a color palette from the opened document. I find it easier to use than in photoshop. Greetings
thanks for the tip! it's really useful!

Pops up a pic of Yeji...
Me: OH SHIT IS THAT YEJI, wait naurr, "I painted a picture of Yeji" OMFG IT IS YEJI HEHEheehehe
YAY ANOTHER MIDZY
Great video!
You can also make the same result by using a mosaic filter or pixelate filter.
I just found out that in Procreate you can choose to make a new palette off of images in your camera roll. Is this a similar concept?
great tips but omg your voice is so calming
What software do you use for collecting and organizing your reference images?
Great video, but I'm still trying to import the color swatch back in to Photoshop.
nice tip
Well...this video came at the right time:')
Man this is a helpful video
I just got to filter - pixelate - mosaic and get tje colour palette of an image.
