What a cool, down to earth young guy! I wonder how the tattoo world would be like If the majority of young tattooers were as humble as him. As much as I want to look at the differences from here to your reality in the States, I just see similarities, it all works the same way here in Brazil. It was a really nice episode. Hey, John, about that Rubendall video you talked about. The client asks for a Balrog, from Lord of the rings AND gets a Fudomio with a fire background HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I love that Tattoo Age series.

The Vice documentary on Mike Rubendall they talk about at 24:08 is awesome!. They did 3 part series on him and one on Grime that are some of my favorite tattoo content on youtube.

All apprenticeships are not the same all so called mentors are definitely not the same you know its a bad choices when your washing there cars only cleaning toilets and taking out the trash and not working towards your goal I do charge for apprenticeship but the difference is Im working them everyday and Ihold nothing back from coils to latest Pens customer service their is nothing off the table people pay to learn Welding Cutting Hair Computers Science etc. Ive been in Tattooing since 1977 and I dont want to teach someone to be as good as me Iwant them to be better than me the best they can become and I wash my own damn car LOL thats not Old School thats just BS love your Pod

Guys, you need to stop promoting apprenticeships because it is really misleading to people. Most "apprenticeships" are working for free with no purpose, being harassed and possibly even getting into trouble if those shop owners are drug addicts etc. Real apprenticeships with good mentors are so so rare! People who come from lower income families have also the right to dream of being a tattoo artists, but how can someone real broke afford to stay 7 days a week in a spot and not get payed anything?! Just rich kids and privileged people can afford this time waste!! Which keeps low standards of the industry to continue. Also, those rich kids are not good material for being artists. The tattoo industry has been making itself look better then it really is in the public eye. It is also the duty of those tattooers who are visible in social media and appear in interviews and have podcasts to take those issues seriously and take a real stance against it. Not just laugh it off as a joke. There is the problem of growing number of studios and tattooers compared to the amount of clients. But this a problem that the tattoo world has created for itself trough this low practices! On top of that a pandemic and then inflation. The tattoo industry has no tools to survive this! Bravo. That's what you've created. Who is gonna clean up this mess now? Right now the tattoo industry is over. Let that sink in.

Hey man, it is what it is. You might be right about the rich kid thing, I’ve seen that a lot, (especially when the only young ones who can find a good mentor are those from money& can afford to get tattooed by great artists before they even got a real job) but you gotta understand tattoo shops don’t have a huge passive income. They can’t really afford to pay somebody to just hang around all day and learn learn learn. If they are gonna pay you to learn while you tattoo I’d expect to do like a 70/30 split (shop 70) until I payed back what I was payed for learning or something like that

You made this same comment on multiple episodes and you’re wrong in all of them
