this is my favorite version of one of my favorite songs
This is the version I wish was on the album. It's incredible
NakeyJakey what's the difference between this performance and the studio version?
I wasn't expecting to find you here, this version is great!
Only furthers my suspicion that NakeyJakey is a genius
Oh shit. Let me find out that you're a radiohead fan. Didn't expect to find you here
"Dad why is my sister's name Rose?"
"Because your Mother loves roses."
"Thanks Dad"
"No problem *Jonny Greenwood On A TR-909 During Videotape* "
What
Just quite a mouthful.
You guys are lame
Now this
This is comedy
dude is straight JAMMING
It made ma day
Phil Selway knocks on the studio door, sticks in hand.
TR-909 opens the door a crack, the chain still on the latch. "Look, Phillip, there's no easy way to say this..."
Underrated comment
God tier comment
I'm starting to think that my obsession with this band has become unhealthy
+ilovemypiano I can easily say the same thing! But it's all good! There's nothing wrong with being obsessed with Radiohead.
+Kristin Zeiber it's not unhealthy then
+tumblingski I'm glad you agree!
I starting to think this everyday
sometimes the songs are so full of meloncholia they bring back memories and achy feelings I have to turn it off!!! I cant take it anymore... Its like a comfort food for your weary heart. Missed relationships, missed moments uggghhhh....GO OUTSIDE DO SOMETHING MAKE MORE NEW MOMENTS!!!!! HAHAHA!!
This is Thom's favourite song from the new album.
Thom has good taste
The new album...
@@btoum__roumada amazing right? Time goes by...
Oh boy...
Ahh a time when In Rainbows was the new album
Someone should sign this band
Random Person i agree very underrated
+Random Person they where under capitol records for 3 albums. I believe that Radiohead left capitol, not dropped.
Patrick McDonough over your head
xD
+Random Person hahahaha. yeah you're right man, such a great remix. Had totally forgotten about it
Thom's hair around In Rainbows time is goals
this is the best version of videotape. it takes the simplicity of the studio version and adds the beautiful buildup of the 2006 version. epic in a subtle way.
I love that in 13.8 billion years i share the same handful of years here as this band ❤
And planet and star and galaxy too. Pretty lucky circumstance. :D
Romantic, and well put.
yeah like what
Ahaaa finally got the syncopation and it sounds a hell of a lot better
me too, sounds like a totally different song
Literally me rn
sometimes i feel bad because i don't feel part of this world anymore, and i don't act like everyone else, and i don't want the things everyone else wants... and then i realize it's ok i have radiohead
into_ perspective indeed, if you don't feel like a part of this world, you indeed begin to be a mature part of it. R'ad gives a perfect example.
Everyone wants radiohead
goosebumps. This feeling making me insane. N only with Radiohead i can feel my insanity in other good n pleasant way n make friend with my inner peace.
i feel you 100%
You just said exactly what I feel
Ed in a room by himself. like a boss
kid's table :D
I have suicidal thoughts and listening to this song makes me feel like there's something to relate to. It's the most beautiful song from In Rainbows. "No matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid. Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen." I don't want to be here anymore but maybe this will soothe me.
How are you doing mate?
This is my favorite version of Videotape because of the magic that is happening with the drums programming.
At around 1:40 there's a metronome-sounding "tock" beat is introduced, which is shifted upstream by 1/8 relative to the downbeat, and gradually becomes more prominent, and over a span of a minute it morphs into the distinct upbeat without changing the meter; the kick, the piano, and the bass become syncopated relative to it by 1/8, and there's a silent downbeat 1/8 downstream of the kick. It's like a sleight of hand done in slow motion, and you still can't put the finger on it. I don't know of any other song that does something similar.
Me too, but only at precise blood alcohol level (not joking).
That said, since Videotape I discovered quite a bit of similar perception-centric syncopation in many of Radiohead songs and Thom's singles.
shuddup you nerd
but i agree and what you say is true
Your analysis is fascinating; sadly, I use Radiohead to chill when I have my frequent, debilitating migraines, but on my BEST days that tick-tock would give me one!
@cv7316 you should watch the Vox video about this track. They discuss this syncopation technique in detail. th-cam.com/video/p_IHotHxIl8/w-d-xo.html
Or watch the even longer video by the guy featured in the Vox video, Warren Lain: th-cam.com/video/RvKhtFXPswk/w-d-xo.html
Happy listening :)
One of the most enlightening and technically informative comments I've ever read on a band's comment section. Thank you. Peace and blessings🙏
yknow thom its ok to move the mic so your spine isnt so stressed
Thom and Jonny are fantastic in this, as always, but I think that Ed's processed guitar antics really make this version.
You are my centre when I spin away...
😍😍😍
Out of control on videotape
incredible, if you guys haven't heard the live version at bonnaroo 06 i highly recommend it.
Thank u so much for the recommendation
Bonnaroo’s version is a masterpiece. This one’s even better.
That version made me feel a lot of things
Now, THIS is a vibe.
this version is even better than the album version. amazing clear vocals by thom and the best use of the piano and drum machine that can be thought up. Hail to the Relief.
When I'm at the pearly gates
This will be on my videotape, my videotape
Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he's reaching up to grab me
This is one for the good days
And I have it all here in red, blue, green
In red, blue, green
You are my center when I spin away
Out of control on videotape, on videotape
On videotape, on videotape, on videotape
This is my way of saying goodbye
Cause I can't do it face to face
So talking to you after it's too late
No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been
The most perfect day I've ever seen
This song sends chills up my back.....
I think I've listened to almost all versions of this song and I find this one to be BY FAR the best.
This song is like therapy to me. Sitting still, just listening and connecting to the music and Thom's voice touches something deep inside of me, that I normally can't reach. Thank you, Radiohead.
This may be my favorite version of this song. Ed's work is pretty great here.
I love how emotional Radiohead is, I'v never seen a video of them where Thom and Mr. Greenwood aren't waggin their little music genius brains back and forth. Amazing
Radiohead are at the absolute peak of their aural powers when Ed is "resonating." I'm not sure thats the proper word, I'm not sure there is a proper word, but many of you will know what I mean
its more than just ambience.. its like hes creating a wooshing wall that harmonizes with everything around it
Chris Connor True. He's kinda like the Edge from U2. You should check out some of the shit that guy can do. It's no coincidence that Ed cites U2 as one of his favorite bands.
This is my favourite version of Videotape, I actually wish they had recorded it like this for the for the album, Ed's part in the middle of the song adds so much.
The album version fits perfectly the overall theme of it, and makes up for the perfect closure as it overshadow the energy of 15 Step. I love this song and most versions of it, but perhaps people don't take into account the flow of the album
Midsummer’s Day in the Graveyard
Easyjets crawled across the sky, into the west wind. I read; in loving memory of. And; what will survive of us is love, love is eternal, here rests for a time.
Perhaps the dead lie happily in the well-tended plots, or perhaps they prefer the forgotten, overgrown corners. Perhaps they prefer their names obliterated by time and the weather. Perhaps not.
There was only the sound of the strong west wind in that place, and I wasn’t there for very long before I thought that I should leave.
thank you for this...
wow.
This is so absolutely beautiful
Who the narrator? Sounds like Peter Serafinowichz
pretty sure this intro is a piss take lol
TR-909: "What do you think Dad?"
CR-78: "I think you should stick to the house and techno records son, your old man's gonna show you how it's done..."

Dig m mmm
Scotch Mist makes me never want to pick up an instrument again.
haha ikr
Because you can't be as good as they are?
I definitely agree that those who don't identify with some part of Radiohead's work have missed something beautiful, but I don't think that anything by Radiohead is something so simple that you can just "get" it. I think, like all great art, it's what you take away from a Radiohead song, or how you interpret it, and the fact that it can be taken so many different ways, that makes Radiohead's work so elegant.
Hi you posted this 14 years ago. Idk, that just makes me feel weird.
@@medi3048 ya like that comment is nearly as old as me, feels weird.
@@earkittycatyou having a nyan cat pfp makes this better
everytime i hear this song... my heart turns R B G
It always bums me out when I hear people refer to this song and others of theirs as depressing. Do they look depressed playing it? What an absolute work of art.
Many people don't understand that emotions are beautiful. People see sadness as negative when in my mind, sadness, if it were meant or taken that way, is beautiful.
Tasheena Syhatheb thank you for that .... a refreshing perspective. And why not ? Sometimes we need to see reality upside down.
I find their songs very sad, but so so beautiful. It brings out something I would've never experienced if I hadn't listened to them
chris madani...people always said the the same about the smiths...theres a beauty in meloncholic music
Indeed. Listening to Radiohead makes me happy.
Voice in the beginning sounds like voice from the Stanley Parable.
Radiohead is my center
When I spin away
Out of control on videotape
Paranoid Alfred I love that line so much
Ed's guitar at the build up when he is using his whammy and delay to make those climbing bell like noises should be turned up. When I saw this song live, it was such a treat to hear. It made the song so much better. Ed is a genius.

The power in their songs is unbelievable. They are music gods.
This gives me goosebumps every single time.
jdozer96.oh, it so pretty word. Goosebumps I mean. In my language (Belarus) it's "гусиная кожа" (goosinuy ckogja) - goose skin. Just thank you for new word. Sorry for my horrible English.
Николай Лысенко more traditionally I've heard it called goose flesh, which is more literal
Ed is amazing in this rendition of the song. What can't he do on a guitar...
I always run back to this song like a lost child .
Jesus, the sounds coming out of Ed's guitar...
underrated musician
it tears my soul in pieces with feels, memories of times gone
Why this song is so magical? I remember those sad days I won't forget . Radiohead was there with me.
How radiohead can be so good in making you feel so fragile and melancolic is something that always impress me at every song ...
They are the only band which could make me cry so easily
This song gets more beautiful every time i hear it. Even after 5 years of listening.
This is the Most perfect Band of this time.
Brilliant sound. Brilliant Radiohead.
Mindblowing version.
Thank you, Radiohead
I love that the thumbnail for this is Johnny's hands on a TR-909
Sometimes it’s really hard not to cry when listening to Radiohead.
Perhaps I’m just an emotional mess, however. Do you people have this problem as well?
I have this problem from many different ways. life has a way of breaking things
Every single time
everyday every hour
@@mari_7538......wish that I was bulletprooooooof
No, I'm not crying.
(Deeply crying)
Wow the beginning of this is so fitting
Love how Jonny is playing around with the tuning on the 909 to match the bass... so good!
There is so much emotion in this song
Nearly brought me to tears
Absolutely beautiful
Radiohead is my center when I spin away 💚
It is a rarity to be able to create music that is beautifully painful. God bless the talents of these men.
I think this is the most genuine and visceral song from Radiohead. So beautiful and sad at the same time .
Oh dear lord, that version was almost too beautiful!! Goosebumps & tears, floating away, forgetting time and place... thank you so much guys, you are better than ever before!
I hope this version of Videotape will be played during the upcoming tour, that would be a totally OBE trip!
See you in Roskilde (thx for soming back to Denmark so soon!!!). Take care :-)

5:37 thom's voice and ed playing are blending together smoothly
Why does this song rock so much... no one will ever know... these guys are way ahead of their time.
soooo good, thanks thom and all of you guys, for inspiring me and i practise my vocals to you thank you thom yorke and guitar to jonny greenwood thank you everyone in the band so bloody brilliant its unreal
Unbelievably lush and epic. True emotion. WHY couldn't this have been the way the album closed? Ed's guitar line is so powerful and Thom's vocals at the end are a celebration. Godlike.
Disgustingly beautiful.
woow, this song tears my soul in little pieces of joy and warmth
Jonny could be doing nothing with those dials and I would have no idea
when you want to party but also cry your eyes out
Ed's guitar in this song sounds like you're ascending into the afterlife.
This & the Bonnaroo version are top tier
Hearing Johnny working the synth drums here really shows you what they were originally going for on the album before having to simplify. The syncopated version that they played at "Bonaroo".
I want this song to be played at my funeral
God, Ed O'Brien is so damn underrated, I swear.
I understand completely. Radiohead does that with you . . . They just won't cease to amaze us. I feel like the most fortunate person in the world just by being born in their time and having the chance to see them live. All of us are.
love it....and nice one thom varying/changing the ending melodies sounds great
I love Scotch Mist!

Astounding version...
Absolutely 100% agree with you. I downloaded that and listened to it over and over and over, it is epic. The crescendo actually blows my mind.
This song was playing extremely loud on my friends record player when he committed suicide. My brother found him in his room hours later. RIP Bryan
good. one less idiot.
Probably the best version of videotape post-2006
patrick crawford i'd say bonaroo version is better
+SlySpiderBro that was 2006
This song is pure Radiohead. What is happening here is happening on a beautiful celestial plane that i cant even see. The videotape is our attempt at recounting all the beautiful moments that we can only partly experience, in red-blue-green. But we of course can not do anything else, in the end, besides capturing those moments. We only see in 3 colors, but the emotion in this song conveys the yearning to experience more... the knowing that what we have done has been in love
this version is just awesome, i love when they play this live.
This song reminds me of a weekend i spent with my ex gf, i had a wonderful time. That sunday in the afternoon we were lying in bed and i started to cry to this song, the melancholic tune made me realize those feeling were momentary and i will miss them someday. Now i listen to this song and it makes me happy to remember those feelings.
did you notice that the tree footage in the beginning was looped?
This song will forver remind me of my baby sister..... R.I.P. LEESH...Makes me swell with tears everytime I hear it. Beautiful...
my favorite version of the song and easily one of my favorite Radiohead songs. this version is so... blissful.
brothers if y'all suffer from the head like I do, please avoid listening to this while driving alone at highways for y'all may feel tempted to close your eyes and accelerate hoping for destruction and subsequent death
Ah! The 909!!!!
A reissue of the Roland 909 will be out next month... Cant wait to Videotape that shit...

Love you
I think the poem thing is about that it's futile to think about death and one should be concentrated on living.
Es increíble la facilidad con la que te relajan y llenan de entusiasmo, simplemente genial!
Son una maravilla, una genialidad musicalmente hablando...
Their music it's art, it gets to your heart. I have to stop listening them when I'm melancholic but they're so good
i must say that this is the best version of this song, which i can listen to almost endlessly, at least for now anyway. feeling it at pearly gates..
The song sounds so simple but it actually has masked syncopation and I still cant hear where beat 1 of the bar is, it took phil the drummer two years to hear it!
i trust in RH
Flawless.
I like the vibe of these three performing! Thom and Johnny should bring Ed with them more often for stripped down sets.
