I think that shows that bands should maintain the same members because if they all work together and sound great, is it even the same band if someone leaves and is replaced?

In 2007, when this came out, my father was in palliative care. I spent many nights with him as he neared the end of this life. When he was asleep, I often listened to this album and especially this song. It soothed and comforted me and let me escape. Strong family support and this music got me through that time. Thanks, Radiohead.

Their expression and love for sound is above and beyond. I think they're one of the most truthful and humble bands and are seemingly unrivaled. It's like watching an old Bo Diddley video where his legs are moving so slickly to the music as he jams out his riffs and he's essentially vibrating back and forth across the stage. I love seeing Thom let loose in live videos. Becomes one with the music. And Phil is such a talented and underrated drummer. His time signatures and the beats he creates to the bands music are incredibly flawless.

    Follow where you lead
    Your eyes
    They turn me
Turn me on to phantoms (Way out)
I follow to the edge (Way Out)

    Picked over by the worms
    And weird fishes
    Weird fishes
    Weird fishes

What i like about Radiohead is that the vocals in the song compliment the song in general instead of overpowering it. The song does not rely on the vocals like most songs today. I think that illustrates the quality of the instrumentals performed by this band. Dont get me wrong though, Yorke is a great singer.

  • @PsychoticSalamander

At the age of 16, I think I’ve reached my “Radiohead Moment” as people are speaking about. I’m not one that listens to lyrics much, as a musician I much prefer to listen to the melodies and harmonies of the music, and while a lot of people listen to Radiohead because of their touching lyrics, I personally love the way their music sounds and how the band works with each other and I think some of their work is truly beautiful from a musical standpoint, this song being one of them, hell, the entirety of In Rainbows is just a masterpiece in my opinion. I’ve known of these guys my whole life but never really sat down and listened to them but this week I’ve been obsessed, listening to each album through on the bus or when playing games or whatever. This might be one of my favourite bands of all time. Thanks for reading if you did :)

Radiohead is the greatest artist now, no doubt. Their works are always universal never too personal, the philosophy behind them is well sophisticated. They are the most random music you ever heard, the most inspiring i known so far. They keep appearing throughout my life one way or another. last night I had some space cakes with my housemates and we all were abit out of it just talking and drinking. Drums and Thom in 4/4. Ed O'Brian and Jonny Greenwood playing cyclical arpeggios in 3/8 and 5/8 respectively. Creates this mesmerising dreamscape of polyrhythms: a texture which is ever evolving but never fully resolves; where no single bar is the same as any other. Kind of like life itself. And death. And fishes. A true masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Archie Cleaver fuck yes bro. The band or the person that did it for me was Jimi hendrix! Forrest Gump was my favorite movie and it had a lot of great tunes i’ve heard before and enjoyed. TH-cam recommendations pulled it up out of nowhere and i heard and realized i’ve heard it before. I’ve always liked 60s-70’s rock but never put a name to a song. The next song that played after that was light my fire by the doors. Ever since then i’ve explored pretty much the entire genre. I pretty much fell out of touch with my generation but i found i belong in the indie rock scene. Lots of great bands. I’m 20 now and hope to explore more as well!

When I was 15-16 I was reading the newspaper on a sunday morning "Radiohead will release In Rainbows online and people can pay what they want". I thought it was really cool, but my taste in music wasn't that developed back then, years passed and now I am in love with this album, one of the finest.

Thanks radiohead, 25 years i ve listenned to you, with up and down. Your words are a little cloudy, i'm french and they re not direct for me, but your music is in a way between intuitive and surprising, not mine but so familiar. it's a wonder to feel as a guest welcoming at home, like nostalgia feels like, like "i'm not here" with such presence. So, this is curious the way your music reasonates with my intimity for so much years. Sweetness and bitterness of a humble life

After many many replays of the album I have to conclude that this is indeed the best song on In Raindbows. In a very tight race with Reckoner and later Jigsaw the lyics on weird fishes are so sincere and true. With a breathtaking climax and a perfect build-up this masterpiece can easily be considered one of Radiohead's greatests.

This is pure genius. The first and last lines are so thought provoking and everlasting all in one. Why are we here and what does it mean to be alive. The happiness of love and the loss of a loved one. "I'll hit the bottom, hit the bottom and escape." WOW...I can't wait for radiohead's next album. I'll follow where they lead. Bravo Boys.

And when the song reaches the bottom of the sea, with only Thom Yorke singing at his cleanest, purest lungs, and Jonny somehow emulating the enigmatic watery sound of the twillight zone, you know that the band has transcended. And better than that: they have offered us to go with them and enjoy the ride.
I honestly think that this section of Weird Fishes is the most perfect piece of art they have ever produced. I cry, die and ressurrect everytime I listen to it.

I not only absolutely adore the music these brilliant scientists of sound create but hold boundless respect for the expressionism and passion they show when delivering their creations live like this. IMO, Radiohead never has nor ever will hit the so called apex of their career as they seem to always be floating at such a height. Suggesting they have already done so is akin to admitting they've already climbed Everest and are still en route as they descend. i cannot see or hear this and believe every album is another one of their progressively inspired and evolutionary footprints they leave as they waltz around the apex. Untouchable!!

I forgot how much this album meant to me throughout high school. Jonny Greenwood was always a pioneer for sharing music and people my age and younger are just catching on to it now. Colin Greenwood, the younger brother, always giving it his all on the bass. And the drummer, Phil Selway for making timeless beats that set the tempo for the entire group. And of course, the wonk eyed, genius that is Thom Yorke with his own voice and the face of a band that came from tiresome nights of writing . Or how about those vocal harmonies and consistent rhythm guitar sounds from Ed O'Brien? But behind the scenes, Nigel Godrich for the production of some of the greatest albums of our time. Gosh, I miss Radiohead, I used to watch every video I could find back when TH-cam wasn't owned by Google and back when you had to wait for news directly from their website.

Dhieen It's not the bass, it's Thom, playing on the thick strings. If you go to 4:29 you'll see Colin's not playing, and in the shot after that you see Johnny's already on the electric piano and Ed's also not playing. At 4:57 you can see Thom doing it sort of.

    • @amoszimmermanmusic6044

Sam Portnoy I disagree, Sam. If you follow this bassy part we're talking about all the way to the end you can tell that it has subtle changes to it all along. There's no way that's a loop, it's definitely live playing, no overdubs. The bassy sound that Thom gets out of the guitar resembles a bass guitar indeed, but it's his part. At 5:40 you can clearly see it.

    In the deepest ocean
    The bottom of the sea
    Your eyes
    They turn me
    Why should I stay here?
    Why should I stay?
I'd be crazy not to follow
    Follow where you lead
    Your eyes
    They turn me
    Turn me into phantoms
    I follow to the edge
    Of the earth
    And fall off
    Yeah, everybody leaves
    If they get the chance
    And this...
    Is my chance
I get eaten by the worms
    And weird fishes
    Picked over by the worms
    And weird fishes
    Weird fishes
    Weird fishes
Yeah I, I'll hit the bottom
    Hit the bottom and escape

    I, I hit the bottom
    Hit the bottom and escape
