Van Gogh only sold one painting in his life, and it was bought by his brother Theo. People just couldn't see his genius through his mental health issues.
I think Who handled this 'what if' scenario brilliantly, as bitter sweet as it was. It wouldn't have been nearly as meaningful if he had suddenly been cured.

Tbh, this is one of the best Doctor Who episodes, but it's kind of a waste not to watch the rest. Honestly, the characters are brilliant, the stories are amazing, I honestly thought Doctor Who was a funny light-hearted goofy show but on so many levels it's so good and deserves to be seen from s1 to s10. No matter how good the episodes you pick will be, you won't appreciate them as much as you would if you watched the whole show.

Without the Rory backstory this episode doesn’t fully hit imo. You get the emotional turmoil of Vincent, but you don’t get what’s going on with Amy, which makes Vincent seem so much greater. His ability to see the unseen isn’t limited to alien monsters.

Something to note that I find fun. In the song Vincent by Don Mclean there is a line that goes like this "Like the strangers that you've met
. The ragged men in the ragged clothes" And what is Amy's nickname for the Doctor??? Raggedy Man. Great foreshadowing.

It's not like the "accidental" always has something bad going on where the doctor goes.
In one episode, Doctor accuses tardis of not always taking him where he wants to get. And Tardis replies that he always takes him where he is needed.
The core of tardis (which is not a mindless machine) is the vortex of time. So theoretically, the whole history of the universe is in the engine of this miracle. So tardis knows exactly where a doctor is needed. Hence its "accidental" missed dates and places.

so this is my favourite episode of Dr Who by far but nowhere below can I see anyone talking about the writer of the episode. The writer is in fact one of the greatest modern writers of all time. Richard Curtis......... In case that means nothing to you he wrote love actually, or the Tall guy, or Notting hill, or four weddings and a funeral, or Brigit Jones diary, amongst many other films, or perhaps you know him from co-writing Blackadder and Mr Bean with Rowan Atkinson. He wrote this episode as a tribute to his sister who he lost to suicide. A women he describes as brilliant and a huge fan of Vincent's paintings. The pain, love, celebration and loss of this episode are absolutely real.

Well, fun fact without spoilers xD Most actors in doctor who are either classically trained or have done quite a bit of live theater, that's why even people that appear for 1min are so good.
In the US it's a 50/50. Some have been trained and the such, some have just landed the role of their lives by sheer luck. In the UK it's rarely the case, most of them have been trained. (Btw not from the UK or the US, this is what I've noticed as a foreigner to both after more than a decade of watching entertainment from both)

This is one of my all time fav Dr. Who eps! Oh, the feels, when VGV hears what his work has meant to others... I can't even type this without getting misty about it. It's conceptually such a poignant episode, and the actors really shine in it (IMO). Even the "evil" creature in the background is a misunderstood creature out of his time, like Van Gogh was in his time.

Silence in the Library/Forrest of the Dead would indeed be a great one to do next. I could also heavily recommend Dalek as a great intro to Ecclestone because he deserves a lot of credit in the show's history.

Does anyone see a explicit content box in the middle of the table? It is really funny that no one mentioned it.

I'm sorry to bring this up but...the box on that table. I had to do a double take and put the screen close to my face to make sure I wasn't seeing stuff. I want friends like this!

Are you guys going to react to just one episode of Community next week? I would only be satisfied with at least 3 episodes of Community. They go by so fast. It's so goooood.

I watched this Episode of DW with my girlfriend and We think it is the best one with Matt.
Also on the next day I started watching Daredevil Season 2 and I was like "Damn! Van Gogh is in the Irish Mafia now?!" XD

You guys should react to Series 10 - starts tomorrow (April 15th). Apparently its going to be a great jumping on point!
    If you're going to continue watching the odd episode now and again, here's a small selection episodes that aren't too reliant on the shows past/future/story arc that you could watch;
    The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
    The Girl in the Fireplace
    Human Nature/The Family of Blood
Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead (becomes important in the future but can act as a stand alone story)
    Midnight
    The Lodger
    A Christmas Carol
    Kill the Moon
    Mummy on the Orient Express
Or you could just start from Series 1 (2005) and watch it all - just know there's a lot of cheese in thee but also a lot of great stuff like this one!!

Nah, no more of that Pat. He'd have only pissed off the other people trying to get into the episode with his stupid 4chan commentary.

Sadly, I'm not sure he's capable of not acting like a tit because he thinks he's being funny. And there's nothing worse than someone trying so damned hard to be funny and edgy on camera.
