Good lord, what an extraordinary time for music, the early 1970s. Just an absolute embarrassment of riches in the acoustic world, we need more of these sounds today.
Is there also magic in her trying to cancel Joe Rogan's ideas? When that happened with the Vietnam War we spoke out in the streets. I always liked Joni's music but she's wrapped up in fear now.
No words can describe the gift that this is. I am 65 now, don't think I have heard this in 30 years, it was all I ever listened to 20 years before that and this has bent time and brought it all back - but in a way that just rounds everything out and leaves only the sublime feelings of relish and soaring joy. Impossible to even imagine at age 15, then age 35, that there would be a channel opened shooting me straight back to then, that brings James back to Joni to share with all who loved each and both of them, to listen again, and revel again, with the sagacity of age. It makes me feel complete. Thank you with all my heart.
Kami Maltz gives a wonderful rendition of this song in dulcimer and voice. Usually I don't like covers but its wonderful to know that young people are still interested in Joni th-cam.com/video/t-xl44vFgfE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=JoshTurnerGuitar
Same for me, Andrea. But hearing this also feels like a brand new experience - maybe that’s the miracle of Joni’s music. Knowing James’s history with Joni, the music of our youth, and his long personal and artistic journey since makes me smile and wonder with awe. Grateful how he’s been a constant presence in my life. The renewed interest in Joni’s music is exciting - and hearing artists like Brandi Carlisle, Billie Eilish and others taking up her songs gives me hope for the future of music and humankind.
From a time when talent was found in fingers on fret boards and vocal chords unfettered by the love of making pure music. Thanks for the memories of notes pure and in the crannies of my mind.
Yes-miss this in music so much, actual singing and guitar playing, I guess it had it's time(we're all growing older) but we will always look back fondly how the originators worked their magic...
As well as being one of my favourite singers and song writers James can really play! I have been a fan of both James and Joni since I was a teenager and Im nearly 70 now! Thanks for all the years James.
Gosh! How I missed this kind of God-given talent. Without EFX overload & without auto-tune. Just pure music & pure vocals. Love James & Joni. Thank you for your music! :)
The one I’ve always really wanted to see is James’ work on Joni’s California. JT is iconic on that with his syncopated bassline, and hammer-on pull-off riffs. Plus the instrumentation leaves enough space to clearly separate his part.
"Add a pulic comment" it said as l was reading all the moving and beautiful comments by other people my age, and we all resonate with the sounds of Joni and James. We are bonded by the music, such a wonderful thing that happens. Humbling, and uplifting. So-o beautiful. Thank you life ! And for us all being in it ! Together ! Yay !
Brilliant guitar playing .. following Joni Mitchell's beautiful voice so accurately and brilliantly. Thank you James Taylor and Joni Mitchell for so many years of heartwarming sounds.
I love this! Wished there was also a track that nearly mutes the album cut and lets us hear the guitar front and center. There's so much going on with James's part. Love watching his hands.❤️
This is one of the finest videos I have ever seen. Joni's signature album, and James was there... And now, passing the torch to Brandi. True greatness, all around. Thanks, JT!
...I'm sure she watched this and thought, "well that's beyond my pay-grade!"....She's a wonderful vocalist; but her fingerstyle guitar chops are elementary (There are quite a few videos, here on TH-cam, of her playing fingerstyle...). This is even more rococo than James has demonstrated at his most elaborate on his own songs! It's amazing how sympathetic his guitar playing is to the single notes and dynamics of a very simple dulcimer part by Joni...all of the minute rhythm changes are there and he alternates chords w/ bass notes and some counterpoint lines. James has always demonstrated a very original and singular voice as a guitar player. I'm going to be studying this one...incredible stuff....
So happy to hear this meaningful joyful tune again. As a listener, it is beyond compare. If I were a musician/guitar player, I would be inspired to learn and practice James’ part 💜💜
It's a wonderful thing of our time that we can learn about how this great music happened and actually see this guitar part by James Taylor. Thanks so much to James for sharing this. Not many artists can play on a Joni song and do so wonderfully well.
My two favorites - James and Joni. James Taylor, your guitar playing is wonderful and unique to you. Still looking for the key to set me free - having your music in my life for 50 years has been the fabric of my life and you have brought me joy, peace and comfort throughout the years. Infinite gratitude.
Just nifty, James! It’s beautiful to see the musical genius at work in studio, providing some background flavor! Kudos to Joni, as well. We cannot forget.
I’m cackling with glee at this! So delightful to hear how James’s choices, particularly in the bass line, affect the rhythm and especially the tonality of Joni’s strummed dulcimer chords. So effin’ delightful!
Good lord, what an extraordinary time for music, the early 1970s. Just an absolute embarrassment of riches in the acoustic world, we need more of these sounds today.
Take nothing away from the propulsive, genius guitar playing, but dear God, the sweet unerring magic of Joni Mitchell is so needed right now! 🙏💗
It is indeed!
And then she took herself off Spotify 😡
Is there also magic in her trying to cancel Joe Rogan's ideas?
When that happened with the Vietnam War we spoke out in the streets.
I always liked Joni's music but she's wrapped up in fear now.
@@Enr227 artists can't be expected to associate with a platform that allows different points of view.
@@robertdouglas8895 Joni has no fear! She believes in the truth,
unlike Rogan!! You have the problem!
If Joni had only written this one song, she'd be an icon....

I never get tired of listening to Joni. She has voice like no other.
From a time when talent was found in fingers on fret boards and vocal chords unfettered by the love of making pure music. Thanks for the memories of notes pure and in the crannies of my mind.
My life's first 2 favorite albums remain so today- One Man Dog, and For the Roses. Thank you James & Joni.
One Man Dog and For the Roses... yes, Julie, soul friend agreement, wow. ~peace

James, you taught so many of us how to play guitar, making life so much better. I have played your songs for years. You're the best man.
I love that you take the time to share the knowledge, of what have become classic songs, thanks James
This is great. Love JT and Joni. Grew up with both. Beautiful. What talent.

I totally agree, makes you wish you’d been born with either gift!
Wow! Amazing and thrilling. Brought so much more richness to an amazing song.
Wonderful! A great song

Classic album from Joni.
Simply amazing. This brightened my soul on this cold dreary Ohio day.
He's such a class act. Joni too.

Lovely. Perfect guitar, as usual. James Taylor is a gem.💙
Nailed it. Thanks, Joni, James, Brandi, and everyone.
Jameさんを知って50年。日本公演にも行きました。素晴らしかった。アンコールでカーリー・サイモンさんとのデュエットは大阪公演だけだったんですよね。いつまでもお元気で。
Just fantastic!
It is mazing to me that after all these years that he can remember how to play it so perfectly. That my friends is an example of the genius of JT!
Perfect!

I knew there was something magical about that track, in addition to Joni.
