- I hope you enjoy this improvisation on the Organ of St. Joseph Cathedral in Buffalo (NY) which is one of the most beautiful instruments I've been able to play so far. This improvised piece includes the amazing string stops as well as the chimes of this organ.

This organ not only is one of the most iconic pipe organs in the States but it also has an amazing story. It was originally built in 1876 by E. & G.G. Hook & Hastings of Boston for the 1876 World's Fair in Philadelphia, at the conclusion of the World's Fair the organ was sold to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo where this instrument was installed in the cathedral. It served the cathedral parish for 122 years until in the late 1990s when the instrument started to show signs of failure. At the time there was talk amongst the diocese and parishioners of the cathedral either to replace it with a more contemporary instrument or restore and resurrect it. Fortunately the diocese chose to restore and resurrect it and was passionately restored and revived by the Andover Organ Company of Lawrence, Massachusetts. In 2004 this instrument was featured as one of the organs visited by the Organ Historical Society during their annual convention which met in Buffalo that year. The Organ has also been featured on Minnesota Public Radio's Pipedreams multiple times.
Thank you for this history. Was just going to ask what organ this is. Beautiful. The diocese made the right decision.
Outside of New York City, it is truly the finest organ in the state of NY. I have played it multiple times, both before and after the restoration, and it will always be one of my absolute favorites.
Ah, my favorite part about American Symphonic organs! Lush, warm, and bright strings.
Celestial beyond words... ...
Welcome to the States, Paul!
Thank You Paul!
Extraordinary aesthetic and sonorous beauty, very well executed. Thank you Paul for your sonorous gifts.
Yes, I like sonorous gifts too. What are sonorous gifts¿ Nice for Christmas I bet.
The bells are so meditative .
Paul, what a rich and luscious sound ! Absolutely beautiful !!! Thank you !
Willkommen in Buffalo! Danke für diese schöne Präsentation. Ich lebe seit letztem Jahr nicht mehr dort, sonst wäre ich gerne dabeigewesen!
Beautiful performance Paul. That's quite an organ.
one of the most beautiful pieces you have played Paul- what an instrument. I hope that you get to play the organs in the Sydney opera House and Sydney town Hall when you come to Australia. Enjoy your stay in the USA it has exposed your talent to a huge international audience. I am so privileged to have been there at the start of your career. Best wishes from your old Australian/Scottish friend.
I hope you're enjoying your time in the states Paul. Was glad to get to hear you last week at Methuen. Wish I could've heard you on this beast as well
Magnifique 👍🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😊 merci beaucoup
Magnifique improvisation 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Splendide
Très belles sonorités de cet instrument.
Félicitations Paul 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️
Oh so beautiful Paul! I can almost feel your emotions and I love the way you "caressed" the sweet, heavenly sound from the organ ❤
Wow Paul I love it😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
OmG.....so amazing. 🥰🥰🥰🥰😍
Beautiful and soothing music!
Dear Paul. What a lush sound! I love lush strings and chimes. I use that combination often. You’re a man after my own heart. It’s so satisfying to improvise on a hymn with that combination! Enjoy your investigation of the beautiful organs here in the USA. Thanks for sharing your contagious talent!❤ Royden
Wonderful! I love the strings and chimes. Which we don't often hear.
You're fantasticly magnificat. We'll. Almost. Lol.
Paul. I sent a message. I look forward to hearing from you
Oh Paul, what so beautiful improvisation, what magnificent mixed colors you play in Buffalo ❤❤
Very very emotional, dear Paul 😂
Visiting family members a few day ago, I have had opportunity to watch this magnificent pièce on a great TV screan and to listen to it on a appropriate loundspeaker system.
WHO, what very strong emotional impression between video and sounding for all us ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, dear Paul, for these extraordinary improvisation 😊😊
Merveilleuse improvisation ! Que Dieu vous protège Paul !
Hey Paul, the sounds of this organ and the bells are very beautifull !
Dear Paul, unfortunately the video ends. I'm immersed in the beauty of your wavy play. In addition to the highly valued game performance by YOU, of course I watched it a second time upheaval to appreciate the beautiful shots of the church,...Thank you 🐧👍🏻🐧🐧🐧👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ein gewaltiges Instrument präsentiert mit einem super Orgelstück, auswendig gespielt. Großartig!
I wish I had known ahead of time that you were going to be in Buffalo. I am at the other end of the Lake! Thomas Ospital is down at Longwood Gardens judging a competition and there you are, both so close and I am stuck on beautiful Lake Ontario.
Very nice instrument and performance. Sad to tell you, not very many great organs like this in the American Catholic churches. Some Cathedrals here don't even have real pipe organs.
God always bless you. Keep being pure your whole life and may these beautiful melodies fill the earth with peace.
Those strings are just❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful, Paul! Those are some lush sounds. Thanks for this. I hope you are fully enjoying your tour throught the U.S.
I personally know a music historian and a professional recording engineer whose family was the builder of the Hook pipe organ company. They are gorgeous organs. So sweet!
Oh Joy. I love strings and chimes. 🐧
Definitely incredible tone colours. Thanks for your improvisation. What an amazing instrument. I had previously only heard it in recordings made by local Melbourne concert organist Thomas Heywood who gave recitals and recorded there.
This piece is so relaxing and it puts you literally in the presence of God. It makes prayertime and meditation much easier. Thank you Paul Fey 🙌🙏
Thank you so much!!
I agree
this is absolutely awesome ‼🐧
Stunningly beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Thank you for that little improv. I really needed to hear that this morning. And, welcome to America! Enjoy your tour.
What a treasure this is. Beautiful piece.
That was so beautiful Paul ❤
Very nice Paul!
Beautiful Paul! Thank you!
A beautiful improvisation showcasing the string stops on this organ.
Absolutely fantastic Paul! You're the best!😁👍👌👏👏👏
Beautiful - I lived in Buffalo , NY for many years and served the Lord for many years in various Churches in the WNY area... I have played that Organ before... I now reside in Florida . Thanks for sharing - Lance †♫♪♫
That's an impressive sounding organ. I looked up some of its background, and it's quite historic. The painted pipes reminded me of videos of British organs from the same period. Enjoy your travels in the U.S. Greetings from Chicago!
Wunderbar Paul.
That was beautiful Paul. Discovered this piece, gave it a listen as usual. I did this just before my night reflection and prayer. Thanks Paul for constantly sharing your Divine gifted music skills. Keep on keeping on. Love ya. 😇😉🕊
Wow😊😊😊
I'm so looking forward to this Paul!😁👍
Beautiful! I am the curious type, could you looked in the carillon and share a picture of it ?
I think the organ and the room are inspiring the organist for this improvisation! Beautiful creative synergy! Paul -- I think that you have found a new canvas on which to paint your compositions! I would love if you would share the registrations.
Herrlich Paul Fey. 👌👌👌
Absolutely beautiful, Paul.
Beautiful video, Paul! And of course your playings superb. I love watching you!
Fantastic Music and magic performance, you are wonderful playing at the organ! Thank You very much, it's a very kind of You!
Große Begeisterung !!!!! Bravo
Ich bin begeistert von diesem Stück 👏👍👌
Das ist einmalig schön Paul Fey. Vielen herzlichen Dank dafür. 👌👌👍👍👏👏
Hallo, lieber Paul.
Wow, seeing you again while surfing on TH-cam, now Buffalo, cool! It takes more than a good organ to get such great sounds - well done!
A beautiful and masterfully restored organ of great historical significance, and a splendid performance!
Great music. As always.
Sehr schön Paul Fey 👍🏻👏
this was beautiful!
Can't wait! Will you play the organ at Riverside Church while you're in NY?
So beautiful! I wish you would play at a National/Regional AGO conference! You have a lot of enthusiastic and highly supportive followers!
Wonderful improv, Paul!!👏👏👏
So wunderschön anzuhören, vielen Dank Paul Fey 👌👍👏
That is a beautiful Hook and Hastings! It’s commonly called the Centennial Organ
Genau mein Geschmack 👍👍👍👏👏👏
While the current instrument is larger than it was in 1876, the Andover Organ Company took great pains to restore every original stop in the instrument to its original tone quality and THEN they carefully added a select handful of new stops to give it some of the grandeur of the now-lost 1878 Hook & Hastings in Cincinnati. This is a MUCH better restoration-enlargement than so many others and the sound of it is incredible!
You’ve discovered the American symphonic color!! You should visit Washington or Philadelphia, both cities have some of the best symphonic organs in the country
Super gemacht Paul Fey, vielen herzlichen Dank 👌👍🙏
Wunderschön 👏👏👏👏
Wow. So beautiful
Das ist eine fantastische Arbeit Paul Fey. Super schön 👌👏👍🙏
👏🏻👏🏻
Very nice, Paul! Your lush chords made the piece for me. BTW, I am unable to make tonight's concert in NYC. I am not physically able to handle the trip. Blessings on you.
The only thing I don’t like about your improvisations….is that there’s no sheet music so I can’t play them myself 😭😭😭
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing:)!!!
Oooh, thank you so much!! I might write this one down later! 😀😊
@@PaulFey please do!!! It’s so pretty ^_^
Das ist so großartig 👌👍👏🙏
Very nice Paul. These old organs are designed based on good harmonic structure and common sense to use all tonal families at different pitches. Nice case as well - typical early American. Is that a hook or Hutchings, perhaps a Roosevelt? How has the tour been going? Methuen was so nice.
Are you going to be able to play the Hazel Wright pipe organ in Christ Cathedral? It is one of the largest pipe organs west of the Mississippi. Over 17,000 pipes just restored by Rufatti.
Ok, now you must try our iberian organ birds 🐤🐤🐤
In the beginning was that a 64' stop in the background?
Bist du gerade in den USA?
Playing a concert in New York at Old St. Patricks tomorrow 😀
@@PaulFey Wenn ich nur da sein könnte! Viel Vergnügen
@@PaulFeywiedermal wunderschön sphärische Klänge,,viel viel Freude in St Patrick..drück dir die Daumen 👍👍😉
I notice the stops are different colours, why is this please?
Am I the only one noticing that the bells and the organ are out of tune? It sort of ruins the combination of both instruments.
Increíble sonido y excelente interpretación ❤❤❤
Hermoso ❤❤❤
