Wow. You are Awesome.... from what I'm seeing l don't have to remove the wheels off my old Montgomery Ward's mower to replace the forward gear that has gone out in the transaxle..l can just remove the whole rear end and change gear and reinstall
My old cub has this hydro 510. It was whining and sometimes not work. Got it with 200 hours and now has 237. Sucked the fluid out it was black and shiny exactly what your want to see. Filled it with 2qts hydrologic oil I couldn't get all of it out. Now seems to work fine no noise tow around my log splitter no slipping.
Hello I just bought a new transaxle for my Cub Cadet. The transaxle looks just about the same as the one in your video I just watched. There is a service bulletin that was packed in the box that says you need to adjust the friction pack nut back out one to two turns after installation is complete so the control arm can move freely forward and back. Did you have to do that on your new transaxle ? Please advise ? Thank you
Man I am glad I saw this before taking my Craftsman to the shop. I feel confident enough for this task. So I hear alot of grinding when I engage to and from forward and reverse. Seems like comon sense to replace the transaxle. What do you think bud? Thanks in advance.
Thank you. Great video. I have a Craftsman 18.5 hp, OHV, DYT, Intek Plus, auto transmission riding lawnmower. I am NOT able to manually push it. I don't know yet if the mower actually runs. I can't push it out of my trailer because it will not roll. I put it in the neutral position and disengage the lever for the transmission disengagement, but it will NOT roll. When I jack up the rear wheels, the wheels will spin freely - in opposite directions. Do you have any suggestions or possible ideas of what is wrong? Thanks John R.
Yes the brake mechanism is probably frozen up. There is a brake disc and 2 little piston thingys that get frozen up and need to be cleaned/lubed. Sometimes jamming a screwdriver and prying the brake disc back and forth can loosen them up. Unfortunately I do not have a video on this procedure yet....
john r. My Hydro-Gear 310-0510 in a stump grinder is designed and built not to roll however it has a bypass allowing for it be moved slowly at 2 mph. I suppose your hydrostatic transmission is built like that. You can download the repair and service manual to find more details.
Great video, do you have a video that shows how to replace the oil in the hydrostatic transaxle after the rebuild? Also what viscosity oil did you use?
Hey Jeff, I have an old wards elite 18/42 that's a seven speed w/ varidrive. I hate the trans in it. Need to know if I could convert it to hydro. Thanks.
First thing I would do is clean the old grass and dirt off the area you are working on, and especially clean that old fan before installing it on the new {clean} transmission.
about that grey tank with the black cap what kind of fluid is really in there and should that fluid be replaced . my 2016 cub cadet ltx1042kw v twin has that tank . I never knew it was there until I changed the drive belt
I also like ur channel and I need some tips on how 2 fix the briggs n stratton twin cylinder like I said it was knockin really hard and I couldn’t figure out why it was doin that
Hey Jeff... Love your channel!!! I have a Husqvrna YTA24v48, and yes, it has the RS800 plastic transmission. Is it feasible to remove this trans-axle and install new trans-axle say, from a YTH24v48 model? I have the YTA model and the trans-axle is slipping and I've had it in a warranty shop for repair but its not any better. I am pretty handy around the shop and I have nearly $2k in this POS. It only has 50 hours on it. What do you think?
Hi great video. Could you please tell me the website to purchase the hydro gear transmission? I went online and there’s no phone number or check out link to purchase thank you.
Hey jeff I had 2 murray ridin lawnmowers like that blue 1 u got but mine were red and the transmission went out in both of em 1 was a hydo static drive and i was mowin with it 1 day and it was goin really slow when I had it on top speed so I parked it and took the engine of it and put it on 1 of those smaller murrays that had a flat head engine witch had piston slop and smoke was pourin out of the muffler so that engine is no sittin outside and the other 1 was a clutch drive and the transmission just burt up 1 day and i parked it and took the deck off and it’s sittin outside proped on a fence the mower is also sittin outside and I took its engine and put it on a 1993 model murray that used 2 have briggs n stratton twin cylinder engine it was knockin really hard and i was wonderin if u could give me some tips on that
a knocking engine is usually a real bad sign that the engine is worn out or it ran low on oil. Most likely the rod is knocking because it is loose on the crankshaft.
9:08 Is this the normal operating noise for these hydro gear transmissions? I just bought a used lawn tractor for cheap and it makes the same noise. Guy said the trans was going out but I drove it up some pretty big hills on my property for about an hour without any loss of power or really any movement issues at all. Just that slight humming whining noise was all. Your transmission is brand new and it is still making the noise. I wonder if it is a noisy pulley or something?
Its almost impossible to install these by yourself. I'm having a hard time keeping it upright to screw it in. I cant hold it up and screw and the same time I dont have 4 hands
MY EXPANSION BOTTLE ON MY YARDMACHINE 46 INCH RIDER IS EMPTY BUT HYDO WORKS GOOD.. DO YOU KNOW IF OILS IS SUPPOSED TO BE OIL IN THAT BOTTLE AND WHAT KIND?, THANKS
Have you or anyone in comments ever changed the fluid in this model, or Is it even possible? I can see what looks to be a full plug but no drain hole/plug
some of those transaxles are meant to be non-servicable. If it is acting up it may be failing. They do offer rebuild parts for some but it is always a big job.
Hydro-gear service manual says to remove unit from "vehicle" and pour out old oil from fill port and replace with 2.5qts of fresh 20w50. I think I like Samuel's idea better.
Hey, this new trans from hydro gear, could you give me the parts numbers on it so I can order the same? I would greatly appreciate it., Thanks, great video, Dale
sorry I do not have that info. anymore. Your trans should have a model number on it and Hydrogears website has good pictures for comparison if I remember right.
My Cub Cadet LT1024 trans axle will be "locked up" when i get on the mower to use it. It will not do it every time. Like I mow for hour or so and then take a break shut off mower and go get a drink. come back ant the transmission acts like its locked up. will not move forward or reverse. i can rock it back and forth several times then all the sudden it frees up. go back to mowing everything is fine. It''s getting very annoying.
Listening to the first part is about to blow up
Thanks, Jeff, great video, as always, great camera work, very clear, and you keep it all "G" rated, so I may share with my family.
😂 that polish Roo getting mad was a nice surprise
good work
Great video and realistic; 3 weeks later now I don't feel soo bad👍

Righton Stoneyswolf good job.
Removing the whole trans seems like a better option (for me) than hassling with seized up wheels to get to my clutch brake actuator (also seized)
Thanks ,good little video . Now I know it is not that big a deal to replace transaxle.
pretty easy to do!

I had the same. I DID NOT have to adjust the nut.

Yeah that sounds like the internal gears grinding. pretty easy to swap

Just asking for a friend, do you use a impack to tighten spark plug in small engines 😢
I’ve seen a few wantbes doing it 😢
LOL! no sir
Hey Jeff, I have an old wards elite 18/42 that's a seven speed w/ varidrive. I hate the trans in it. Need to know if I could convert it to hydro. Thanks.
Anything is possible! many transmissions/transaxles mount up the same way
First thing I would do is clean the old grass and dirt off the area you are working on, and especially clean that old fan before installing it on the new {clean} transmission.

I think it is an overflow tank you do not fill it

Hey bro do you know will a new hydro gear t2 replace a old 310-0510 hydro gear trans they look the same
What if your wheels are stuck? How do you take the wheels off if there stuck. Have MTD Yard Machine i think it is.
good question. Taryl's fixes All youtube channel has a video on that

I don't know, but where there is a will there is a way!
The pulley and fan on mine is on the side how can I switch mine
What website do you use to get your parts?
My local lawnmower repair shop, Ebay, Amazon
Hi great video. Could you please tell me the website to purchase the hydro gear transmission? I went online and there’s no phone number or check out link to purchase thank you.
You must contact them via phone or email
What oil goes in these things
How much was the new transaxle?
At the time this video was made it was apx. $750.00 brand new
@@JeffsLittleEngineService WOW - Thait is expensive.

I think he is not on full gas
its gonna be bad pulley if you put it in neutral position and you release the clutch brake
Its almost impossible to install these by yourself. I'm having a hard time keeping it upright to screw it in. I cant hold it up and screw and the same time I dont have 4 hands
I wish Im had an assistant!
You gotta use some wooden blocks or anything that'll work

Hydro Gear uses 20w50 full synthetic..👍
What was the cost of the new transaxle?
$700.00 if I remeber correctly
@@JeffsLittleEngineService Doesnt look like they still make this model. :(
@@bryco32 don't try and buy this one new the better thing is to upgrade to a k46 or if you want a really good one a k62.
I AllWAYS try a oil change first before I replace it 😢, most of the time it works out ok and will last several more years 😮

You have to pump out the fluid from the fill hole and then add new fluid. 20w50 is what hydro gear recommends for the trans in this video..
Hydro-gear service manual says to remove unit from "vehicle" and pour out old oil from fill port and replace with 2.5qts of fresh 20w50.
I think I like Samuel's idea better.
How long did it take
an hour or so
where did you purchase the transmission from mine just went out
Ben Church

Can anyone say chicken and dumplings. Oh hey he ran the stop sign also, luckily no cops around!

I would clean the brake caliper and components. they can get sticky and lock up over time
It’s moving but it don’t sound right
everything was good
I BET THAT COST YOU A PRETTY PENNY...
yep! $650.00. Snapper wanted $1200.00!!!
how much was that transmission?
Snapper wanted over $1200.00! I bought it through Hydro-Gear online for $625.00!
Jeff's Little Engine Service wow.very nice.too much for my blood tho.
I was going to attempt to rebuild the pump, but then the customer was ok with just purchasing a new one! whew! dodged that bullet...
