Still lock down here in North Carolina and no work, your videos have gotten me through the last couple months and have improved my playing tremendously. Some old friends came over last weekend for a jam thinking I haven't played in over a year. They were very impressed. Thank you mr. Beatdown
That's cool stuff right there, man 🤘🏽😎
@@RobBeatdownBrown Beautiful kit !
In regards to the point about playing the pattern and not worrying about what drums to hit, on my electronic set I created a preset where every drum has the same sound just so I can focus entirely on keeping the rhythm even and smooth while moving around the kit. This really highlights kick drum issues especially, like when kick drum doubles are just slightly faster than the hands. For those with an e-kit, I highly recommend making a preset like this.
Wise
I believe I've mastered the inspired RH stroke at just about 8:08. The rest should be cake. Thx, Rob, for another great lesson!
Thank you
oh smart
This triplet exercise was the very thing that made me open up my drumming when i first started saw a jojo mayer clinic he started with the lrk pattern then added in a left foot with your left hand he said to do it till you dont have to think about like programming it into your subconcious
Yup! Keeping the quarters with LF, even better!
Woke up this morning thinking "goddamn, i need to fix that triplets" and magically you are here with this exercise! What a drummagic?!
3:00 I had a met on a random tempo before he started tapping his sticks and the met some how lined up just perfectly with his stick clicks!
I really have to give a testimonial about this drum lesson. It totally got me out of my rut! It's simple, but I guess that's what makes it great. Adding the kick to drum fills really gives the illusion of adding SPACES, because you kind of don't hear the kick drum in a fill (unless the drummer emphasizes it). So playing something really simple comes across sounding more complex because of the SPACES. Really cosmic lesson for me, Doc. Thanks!
Best teacher on TH-cam.........
I really like that. Problem is I only have a snare and two thick textbooks for practice pads balanced on the side of the pool table, no bass cept a box to kick. I'll figure something out.
One of my fav YT drum teachers. Cut through all the things and gets to the important tasks.
As a new drummer, just getting into triplets, this has really hit home the sound I hear other drummers play, and I now know what I need to do!!!! Fantastic lesson
It would be neat a t shirt that say "RobBrown is my drum teacher on you tube. "
Id buy it in a heartbeat
The Man! Big ups To you Rob! From New Zealand! Cha-hoo!
Rob, I really like your A&F snare drum. I love A&F drums. It's like they're keeping old OLD school fresh and new with their drums.
Now, if I only had enough money to pay for some cool 'spensif-a** drums like that I totally get some.
'Spensif-ass is RIGHT. But worth every penny, plus a tip 🏆
@@RobBeatdownBrown Indeed.
Hvala!
3:53. Describes simple triplet exercise, begins playing an amazing shuffle groove across all of the drums and cymbals.
I can't afford a kit, all I'm working with his three pads but I'm learning a lot from you brother Rob thank you ✌️😷
As always, very much appreciate your time and effort. Learned something new with this one (that little six stroke roll at the end). Thank you
I work at a call center… and thanks to Mr Brown I now annoy and entrance 200 plus agents with repetitive triplet and doubles exercises on my chair … oh yeah … the forearms be veiny lol 😂 With the Promark fire-grain rebound 5bs of course
Thanks!
Thumbs up always, Rob!!! Glad to see you ok, and drumming!
I have been able to do triplets quite well for over 30 years. Yet I still found this a good exercise. Thanks again Rob.
I write with my right hand and throw with the right. But I bat left, hockey left, golf left and start my triplets with the left. Must be in my Canadian DNA. Love the 6 stroke and triplet combo.
Any time I put a triplet fill into one of our songs, it immediately becomes my favorite part, and what I look forward to as soon as we start playing it :D Some great new patterns in here for me, looking forward to getting comfortable with them!
Rob, no matter what you're teaching and demonstrating, you always do an outstanding job explaining technique and adding variety. Thank you.
Thanks Rob. As a guitarist & piano player trying to learn drums during the lockdown, this is most helpful.
Hi Rob! You've been right on the money with your advice and wisdom you share with us in the exercises. My form and stick control have improved so much after just 3 weeks of practicing as much as I can.....I try to practice at least an hour. My singles, doubles and paradiddles are getting better, but they're not as smoooooooth as I want them to be. I will continue to woodshed these and I've got to improve my 6 stroke roll. Take care and peace and love to you and all.
You are so right about the simple exercises being the most effective.
Regarding this triplet exercise, I’d recommend trying to play an accent at different places inside the triplet using the left hand as well. It’s instinctive to accent the first note you play with the right hand, but try to shift accented note.
Also try reversing the hands and playing LRK.
Thanks for this video! Great, relaxed feel as always.
Rob Brown. I am a lowly guitar player, but I have missed this show.. I was glad to see the notification.
You are absoluitely one of the very best drum teachers there are out there! Hands down!
This is Dave's trademark triplet flurry. Great! Been trying to figure this one out for a long time.
Just did 80 no issues, 120 same ,loved the added 6 stroke roll into the mix and also put a few paraddle diddles into it. loads of fun. As always good one Rob , hope you and family are 😎 cool.
I'm a rock drummer since 10 years.. But I love swing drum like Jimmy Vincent o Gege Di Giacomo. I want to learn swing drum so many thanks to you. I work the traditional grip since 2 DAYS ahah So fu**ing hard. But I try and I try and I try ... Many thanks, you're a such good teacher !
Yes, affirmation! This is my favorite thing to do, as well as switching up the combo (starting with left, starting with foot, etc).
Any tips on micing the kick? EQ on your mixer? Do you have a subwoofer in the room with you?
Love the sound of your cymbals Rob.
Thank you Rob
I’ll try this out…stay blessed 🙏🏽
Great video, thanks for helping the rest of us beginners out.
Great teacher Rob! I appreciate ya.
that gong SCARED me, thank you for this brilliant video and incredible Bruce lee quote
Caught me off guard there. At 3.05 you said to practise the straight triplet (1-trip-let / 2-trip-let etc).
Then when you started the exercise at 3.34, it went into double time (1-trip-let / &-trip-let / 2-trip-let / &-trip-let) lol
I guess I’ll have to start from the very basics and work my way up to this exercise.
Thanks for the lesson.
I have such a issue mastering these for some reason. If I could just get these down and clean my playing would reach another level.
Great simply put. Thank you your a great teacher and very much appreciate it.
Yes Rob ur the pattern master ! Combining R L K with 6 stroke roll!
I just love this guy. He is a natural genius.
Yeah...i agree. He’s the man
Sounds like a chop
i could listen to these triplets for a whole hour....so skillfully done bobby
thank you for this.....
Excellent lesson as usual. I will also play it Left Right Foot.
This is such a great exercise and one I have done a lot in the past but not really thought too much about dynamics, just playing full vol on hands and feet, much harder and way more effective / musical to add dynamics on the hands. Great exercise.
Also reversing stick's is really good !!
Rob is the full package!
Seriously cool dude. I am a lefty who plays a right handed set up. I always play triplets with a left handed lead. I never felt it necessary to lead with the right hand. I know now how wrong that was! Great demonstration as always!
Another fantastic lesson Rob. Your so damn fluid the way you move around the kit it's inspiring. You must have put in a lot of work to make it seem so effortless.
Genius . This has EVERYTHING
Simple stuff on a definitely super high level. Great rolling quality, a true master.
Thanks much, man 🙂
Beginner question:
When you say you should play it RLLRLR (or whatever the exact hand signatures are) - why is this important to mention? Doesn’t what matter is timing? Is it because we assume people will naturally accent with a certain hand?
Solid dude, helps out with making sense and fun with drumming
Cool stuff Rob, that snare 😍😍😍😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🥁
Say Rob, thanks for including the “D” word..dynamics!
so sooth...................you got it going on this exercise. You inspire me................thanks........
Great pattern with the 6 stroke roll on the end! Adds that little sumpin, sumpin!
That hot sauce 🌶
Excellent - - it appears to be continuous and therefore could be triplets or 16ths - it looks good and sounds great & even at the moderate speed of 80bpm is visually impressive as well as aurally.
thanks mister brown. i liked so mutch that exercise
nice.. I cant wait to be able to do this.. Thanks for good tips..
Talented beyond belief
This looks like a good exercise for me, thanks! Yourvideos always give me something new to think about on the drums! Very uplifting!
Hi Rob I've been watching your lesson and honestly I'm studying it and my drumming was getting more better than before. i really appreciate what and how you apply your knowledge to all of drummers and who wants to be. THANK YOU God Bless 🤟😎🙏
Another great lesson! Thank you! You're an awesome drummer and a fantastic teacher. I just bought your handbook.
Your lessons are always time well spent. Thank you.
Beautiful looking kit !!
Rob. Thanks for helping me tighten up my chops.👍
Nice beatdown lesson. Thanks man.
OK ... Who gave this the thumbs down ... Show yourself ... I , for one , can't thank you enough for your instruction Rob . If only there had been a Beatdown youtube channel when I was a kid ... This lockdown and your input has advanced my skills exponentially . Goodonya mate . Many thanks from OZ .
A LOCKDOWN IS A REAL BEATDOWN IN THE ASS CRACK
great exercise, I prefer the triplet 8th note on and off the beat, I just find them more creative and rhythmic
Hi Rob, Man this is harder than it looks for me. I need to get my left hand dialed in to make it flow better. I'm hoping in a few months I'll really notice a difference. Thank you. Kelly
Gonna start calling you Mr. Big Head, so many complements ! Big up !
Love your work Rob
Just tried the workout and this has to be apart of a daily routine I actually do a fill like this but this video just made me understand the fill I'm actually doing....now I know how I can control it and clean it up
Thanks again Rob fore all the vidéos 👍i hope One day i am going to have the chance to see you live 👍 sory for my anglish
Really good exercise!!! 👏👏👏👏
I love it... especially when we roll in the RLLRRL up in that nasty triplets mix
This is sooooo helpful ! It sounds beautyful. I whish, I could play it like it is supposed to be ! Thanks Rob. Greetings from Germany.
You are a superb teacher! Fabulous!! I love all your lessons 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you... My next challenge.😁
6:50- you play 16th note triplet 1 to 3..the count changes on 4? (Six stroke Roll also 16th triplets) ? ;))
sounds really good and looks really fun
These are great exercises, thanks!
if Beatdown recommends....I do it! Thanks
Ha. Thanks, man 🙂👊🏽
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talents 🥁🥁. RESPECT 🎼🎵🥁🥁
Amazing stuff.
Hey Brad, can we get a drum video soon?
Was having a tough time with triplits- thank you for this!
Ok I finally subscribed and it was due to this exercise video. Thanks Rob, very appreciated brother 🙏
Every video from Rob is a great value, triple - Like, thank you!
Great tips there Rob thanks, got me pondering on new fills for sure. Safe
Great lesson! I’m fairly decent with triplets but i am having a heck of a time keeping time with the hats with the left foot. I’m trying to do quarters and on the “and”… as with anything it all comes with practice but it’s no joke lol. Thanks for the video my friend
Like your shirts man. I don't usually buy ANYTHING online, but may consider.
Tks for the uploads. Great job on the vids 👌
Being new and left handed I have to ask: Am I supposed to be doing LRK instead of RLK? That’s how I’ve been doing and sadly doesn’t even come close to Rob’s, but am getting a tad better. Update: from the internet yes you reverse them.
hey great lesson. Do you have anything to help exercising the 1/2 time shuffle? I am struggling with independence.
Thanks Brother Ron. I love triplets. Also I love your videos. Keep them comings. Peace. O! I left out some thing. Very Smooth 👍
Well, once again a great technique video that I’m adding to my daily/weekly practice. Just what I needed. Going to have to get an inexpensive camera to record myself.
Thanks for the great exercise. I love your approach. I sas just editing a longer exercise for my students called Coordinating the Hand and Feet, and triplets are definitely part of it.
Rob excelente ejercicio! , muchas gracias por tu magia y generosidad
Great practical lesson!
Awesome stuff as always! Thanks for taking the time.
