If you want less arcadey controls, configure the input option "Toggle inertia dampeners" to a key and turn off the inertia dampeners. It also enables some tactics you can't otherwise use.
Enables some tactics that are absolutely crucial for staying alive in harder difficulties.
move this comment up and pin it!
This! They put a lot of work into the controls. And it supports a lot of setups too.
Sounds cool
I'm getting flashbacks of turning off the stabilizers in Elite Dangerous to pull some wicked 180 spin and wipe 3 other kraits from existence. Fun times, while they were. Shame how much neglect its gone through.
17:50 having large capital ships actually be large, and giving you that feeling of being in a fighter is really tiny to said capital ships, is precisely why I loved freespace and especially freespace 2.
You had me at "If you are a fan of Freelancer"....yes, I spent a lot of time playing that game.
good god i loved that game. best space game to date if you ask me. "have not played this one yet, is a tat prizy atm for me now". life is kicking my butt atm.
@@noxsamus397 First time I saw Star Citizen only thing I wanted it to be is a more modern take on Freelancer... and they made it this bloated mess that will never be ready. What a waste.
I spent YEARS playing that game. One of my favorite games to this very day.
I still have my Freelancer disc. I also made a version of ISO to install that runs without crashing on Win Vista or higher and it runs in wide-screen immediately after install. 😄
I played since release and ran my own server for ages. So much fun!!!
@@noxsamus397 definitely not the best unless you have nostalgia goggles on but certainly an iconic game.
I bought the first Everspace because I saw it on this channel. Now this is one of my most anticipated games EVER. I'm gonna play the hell out of it this weekend. Thanks Splatt!
how was it :) thinking about buying it but first need to decide PS5 or Steam (because Steamdeck arrives soon)
@@Fekron It’s so fun! If you’re hesitant, then just download the demo. The demo actually has a decent chunk of content in it and gives you a great feel of how the game is
@@Fekron While I’m not sure if you get to this point in the campaign in the demo, buying another ship was so fun. They have so many different types 👍
It is STILL in EA, both on steam and GOG. It does not release until april 6. I don´t know if splat got an earlier release or what. But for us mortal non-streamers its not out yet!
I saw you play the first game, I bought it I loved it. Like you I have waited for 1.0 to play everspace 2 I’m so glad it’s here and you are shining your golden light upon this glorious game so it may see the recognition it deserves
@Splattercatgaming It's funny you mention 39:24 having a comfort show while eating ice cream, when I'm sitting here with my own ice cream, watching you for my comfort show. Had some tough times in my life (like anyone else) watching your game reviews has always been a nice respite from reality. I hope you get to see this, just wanted to say thank you.
It's awesome that you're covering this gem of a game. It showed up as a recommend game in my list on Steam and I ended buying it during the Xmas Steam Sale. 96 hours later, I've unlocked a lot of ships and weapons yet, even in Early Release, there are still 2 star systems to unlock and explore. The devs did an amazing job with ship models, weapon types, sound design, and environments. Mission variety is also impressive. One highlight happens when, in order to steal a drone from pirates, you have to break into their computer network. Since the only unprotected port is in a mining facility inside an active volcano you have to remotely operate a shield drone to escort an infiltrate through the volcano's cauldron so it won't burst into flame, while your on-board AI is giving you grief. If you've yearning for a fun space game with a simplified, though still fully 3d, flight model; plenty of puzzles to solve; quirky companions that open up more perks and skills; or basically a game that harkens back to all the good aspects of Freelancer and Privateer, get this game. The OP weapon combos you unlock as the game progresses are the extra cherry on top.
18:00 X4 and EVE do an outstanding job illustrating the difference in size between different classes of ships.
whole X universe in general i reckon not just x4, def my fav singleplayer space sandbox
@@lifelesshusky and the star wars mod for x foundations has to be one of the best star wars games ever, millenium falcon and razorcrest with full detailed interior, some spacestations even have a tram you can actually ride, it's simply amazing
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter did a good job of comparing fighters to capital ships. I remember one particular challenge where you'd have to go against a Super Star Destroyer, and it would take quite a while to fly from the point of the SSD to the bridge to try to target their shield generator domes.
I think the challenge gave you 30 minutes to take it down, and even with several squadrons of B-Wings all dumping their missile banks into the shield domes and bridge you still might not be able to drop the shields, let alone take down the whole ship.
Star valor has shuttles, fighters, corvettes, frigates, cruisers, and dreadnoughts
Yeah i remember being impressed with the Super Star Destroyer. Also, Freespace 2 had some really big ships like the Satanas as as the human colossus.
@@BVargas78God some of the capital ships definitely made you feel small in freespace, even some of the gunships massive, I miss that game
Its incredible game! I've been playing it for over a year now. Thanks for giving it the credit it deserves.
I played it 50 houres in early access. It's gonna be awesome to start from beginning again. The game in it's core is is one big spiral in finding new Locations to shoot down enemys to find better Loot to shoot better enemys. The fight's are so satisfying like in no other spacegame. It's a good mix in combat action & relaxing puzzles.
24:35 FYI, your parents didn't raise you to feel a sense of guilt when you do bad things because they are religious, they raised you that way because they are good people. It's not related.
20 years in and I'm still chasing something to fill the Freelancer void. Much hope for this one!
What game do you think is closest to Freelancer? I'm also looking to scratch that itch
This game does a fair job of hitting that freelancer spot. At least in my opinion. Hope others think so as well.
@@Kizerlk07 maybe Darkstar One, though thats very much within the same era. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw was a very arcadey take on it but enjoyable enough.
Star Valor is like a 2D version of Freelancer, replete with aRPG goodies 😍 I *highly* recommend it!
i had a whole soundtrack for playing freelancer, mostly cowboy bebop and trigun lol
You say some of the funniest stuff. I enjoyed watching your ES1 videos too. Here, ya done good. Also, I admire the way your parents brought you up. I will definitely subscribe and like. Keep em coming, please.
21:40 XD wow.... you yeeted the containter out of the secret room into the void and i guess, if you wouldnt have chased it, it could have drifted out of bounds^^
This is one of the only games that keeps me playing without making me realise how long time has passed
seriously??? i must be spoiled or got good adderall or something because i got like 20 games that i play and dont notice how much time has passed... you want some suggestions or naah?
@@raidermaxx2324 I'll take some Adderall
-pops head in door- Someone say Adderall?!
Rimworld also do dat
@@raidermaxx2324 what I had failed to express properly is that, I get easily tired of games really fast .
Don't know if I'm tired of everything, if I'm bored and sick just because I'm getting old or if years of playing a lot of stuff take it it's toll
Splat, it's human to feel for stuff that's not "real". You're good my guy, I share what ya mean on always being nice, I always wanna be the guy that helps instead of screws over.
Played the EA for hours, I can't wait for the 1.0 to be released ! This is gonna be a blast !
For sure they have improved their licence A LOT !
I used to be such a massive fan of the mobile game series Galaxy on Fire (1 and 2). Such a great game series, was sad when 3 was shit and the developers just disappeared. It was the best, freeform space rpg ive ever played. I've purchased the galaxy on fire 2 dlc packs on three seperate devices, its just so damn good and i mourned its death hard.
Then i figured out the god damn devs behind GoF were the guys making Everspace!!! I cant believe my luck.
I keep seeing Galaxy on Fire 2 mentioned and so I"ve wish listed it for later purchase. (along with the other 800)
@@warriorfire8103 The game is a bit old nowadays. Has scaling issues on android, but it otherwise runs alright. Give it a try if you want, but im not kidding when i say everspace 2 is galaxy on fire but on crack. Its everything i ever wanted from gof
This game is amazing. Bought it awhile back but haven't played it much yet. First one was great too. Maybe now's the time!
Don't be ashamed of playing honorably Splat.
I didn't know about this series until this video, thanks Splattercat. I've been looking for a good space game to play.
This video you have done splatt has been the best thing to have happened to me.
Thank you
I like the idea of them going a different direction with the second game. I remember playing the first Everspace 1 and loved the feel of it. But the whole time I thought "I wish this wasn't a roguelite."
Need to find time to restart a game, had played early access up to a point to see how it ran. You're very correct with the distractions though, I'd spend an hour going from A to B because 3 random side missions would pop up 😅
@24:33 that 10 seconds put a smile on my face, and I thank you for that contribution sir.
For those who don't know, I believe these guys made the Galaxy on Fire mobile games too. In my opinion still to date the best space ship games on mobile ever. I actually saw this connection in an article and that is what got me to have a look at Everspace 2. The influences are very apparent
He even mentioned in the beginning of the video that the Everspace protagonist was a “clone of a legendary pilot”. So, Kieth T. Maxwell lives on!!
GOF2 has a special place on my heart :)
Hear hear!
This is one of the few games I haven’t regretted buying into early access one bit!
I ended up using an Xbox Controller and turning the move sensitivity down a notch or two. Works really well for me compared to Kb&M. As for the power cores, you want to find the dispenser and then where you deposit it before you do anything with it. You only have so much time to get one and place it where it needs to go to open a treasure door.
You should take a look at X4 Foundations.
It has everything from fighters, to carriers, miners & destroyers!
And you can fly EVERYTHING!
Also you can have your own faction, play it as a RTS, manage/exploit the real-time, fully simulated economy, build your own stations (modular). The list goes on..
dunno for me X3 Reunion was the best
@@sirc1446 It's almost hard to compare the two. They have so different foci.
@@xota-prebs4593 new boron ships are seriously incredibly looking, just fantastic
@@jh5kl Yes! Yes they are!
I am really looking forward to see the "end" :)
I bought this game over a Year ago and almost forgot about it thanks for reminding me to play the full game. I'm pleasantly suprised and hyped xD
I got that strong guilt in video games too, I think it came from playing Ultima games when I was a kid. Those games punished you for your bad ways and you always strove to better your avatar and build up each of the 8 Virtues.. Knighthood was kinda my religion for many formative years. Also the movie Excalibur which I watched over and over so many times I used to have every line memorized.
I think there are worse things than being virtuous in places where it doesn't matter.
Religion is not required for an aversion to cruelty. All that is required is empathy and principles. I'm deeply anti-religous and I can't harm innocents or do evil things in video games. 🤷🏻♂️
There's a game theory on always having something for the player to do within eyesight of the last one. It's highly effective on myself as well.
Don't feel bad Splatter, I always feel bad if I'm mean to NPC's also. Unless it's required for some reason or another I never do it either.
Freelancer is one of my all time favorites to this day. I've backed Star Citizen with the hope of someday getting something amazing and it keeps on going but it's slow. I will gladly play Everspace 2, 3, 4 and 5 in the meantime :D
I look at Star Citizen as like a 30 year investment. It is an evolving project that currently is already outpacing the technology available. It’s way more complicated then any other game ever made and will realistically take another 20 years to get to a fully playable state
@@maaingan there is no way it is ever releasing.
Nothing has come close to Freelancer ever since..
@@comancostin4623 Agreed, the atmosphere is unmatched. Still going back to play it from time to time
Why would they release a game when they already made half a billion bucks selling a dream.
Looks amazing. Need something to scratch that old Freelancer itch.
My man Splat! Immediately goes to the Distress Call. Outstanding spacer! Outstanding.
I'm exactly the same as you - I've racked up 1000's of hours in Skyrim - not ONCE have I ever come close to getting even half way through the main quest - I'm always off doing other stuff! The amount of times I'm been given a Go Fetch mission and I already have the item in my inventory!!! Anyway, this looks great.... I'll be playing it for sure....
I am legitimately shocked that you went the full 40 minutes without changing your ship colours and materials! Would love a second video about this game when you can show us a lot more of that :)
Everspace 2 coming for xbox x and damn Im looking forward to tryig it out, One thing I didnt catch in the video; is there a first person-mode alternative when piloting the ship? Great vid.
I bought this game when you first covered it, have played it on and off since then, and am still playing it. I love it. Never played the first one, though.
The 7th is going to be a _really_ Good Friday. Thanks Splat!
I am also unable to harm NPCs. I feel bad when I am mean to them. I did not receive any religion indoctrination or sense of guild or anything from my parents. It's just how I am built, and I like it.
I imagine then that you also do not enjoy fictional stories (books, movies) where the protagonist is not a good guy?
Little did you know that you must kill those NPCs since they are white nazi terrorists. How? I said so since they are colonizers and you're a nazi terrorist if you disagree.
boom, I changed your morality in one swoop
*tips fedora*
G'day outspoken atheist.
You're not ''built'' as anything. A child does not have sense of morality. This grows over time due to your environment, whether it's religion or otherwise. It's baffeling to see you think that's only something religion, cults, guilds etc do. You still get taught about morality, what's right and wrong based on the environment you grow up in.
It's either inbuilt or you grew up in a society informed by a certain moral universe that's so ingrained it's no longer considered a religious value.
Such great news that the game is finally making 1.0. This will be a fun weekend! Thanks for the awesome video!
this has big Descent vibes too, snooping around in those wrecks. im going to have to check this out
If you want that size differential between your ship and the Corvette's check out Freespace 2. You're constantly a small fighter against fleets.
"You're constantly a small fighter against fleets." - or check out Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw for the same reason ;-)
@@igorthelight yes and no. Outlaw doesn't really pit you against Corvette's like free space. But it's fun for dog fighting other small fighters.
For those who dont know, this game is developed by rockfish games, which was once part of fishlabs before they spit. Thus they developed the legendary galaxy on fire series on mobile.
This is on my list to pick up later this year, it looks great. Got some other games I’m playing right now, but I like the look of this a lot.
Have you ever considered uploading your Twitch streams to a secondary VOD channel after the fact? I'd play those on a constant background loop!
A lot of misleading informations.
Everspace 2 is LOOT based game. It's not some slogfest space sim. It was, from the get-go, designed as action RPG with builds, random loot etc. Pretty much Diablo in space.
I, and many other LOVED that idea that's why we backed the game on KS.
If you're here complaining that "there's too much loot" or "I wish you could pilot big ships" - This game is not for you. Play smth else.
Havent watched much gaming content on youtube for years now splat, but this video was a must watch for sure.
I've been playing the early access with dual sticks and it's been great. Much better experience than the first.
> "Just pass it on. Maybe we can make the DMZ a better place."
I predict that Freighter Captain is going to have a run in with pirates in the near future.
15:25 Splatter is so crazy he is throwing around "sockets".
Everspace and Everspace 2 are fantastic. Thank you for pointing out that they are going to official release on 2. I will be playing it soon too.
🙌🙌
I was an hour late on kickstarter back then, so I was only backer number 100. Played it and had to stop because I wanted to get the full experience and binge it!
I would be happy to see more videos of this game😀
Fan of Descent!! Reason I crowd-funded the first one. Can't wait to check this one out. Thanks for the review.
My touchstone for games like this will forever be Escape Velocity, but we only had Macs when I was a kid.
Both X-Wing and Tie Fighter did a fantastic job of illustrating the size difference between parasite boats, ships, and capital ships. I miss those games.
Looks really good, I'm on a kick of space games atm so this definitely has to go on my list now.
What else have you played? I'm always looking for new space games. Check out Rebel Galaxy.
Nienix: Cosmic Warfare
check x4 foundations, insane sandbox
You just taught me that "plosive" is a real word! And a very appropriate one to describe the weapon sound design.
Today is the day I hit the like button for the game and not just for you.
Great video, thanks for showing the gameplay. 👏Been waiting aswell and will use my easter holidays for a journey through space.
Had this in my library forever but been waiting for early access to end before jumping in. Just 2 more days. Also got Wartales coming out of early access right behind it. My month is booked as far as games are concerned.
I was just trying to remember the title of a game that you played a while back and I thought was really cool. It was this! Well, it was a bunch of games, but this was the one I was thinking of in particular.
This Everspace is the everspacest Everspace ever.
I played the game, and deleted it. If you like spending hours looking for an item in a junk yard or looking for a hole to enter on a planet covered in canyons with a bunch of holes again spending hours then you might like this game. If you like being treated like a kid by making you get a power node or battery then racing back to apiont to throw it into a unit to power something then you might like this game. If you chase maddock and finally cath up to him only to have him race off, then 3 seconds later told you failed the mission you might like this game. If you like landing on pads and having a mission rammed down your throat (you can only have 5) that you dont really want but cant say no to or even abandon then you might like this game. Oh and you do this all on very easy, the time you waste looking for mission items is deplorable, your in a ship with sophisticated sensors but you cant see anything unless you on top of it or you trigger it in another area, over all the game is crap unless you like spending hours at one site looking for a needle in a haystack with a bunch of haystacks around and no help regardless of difficulty level or the fact you in a advanced piece of technology thats has senors so useless it tells you where power orbs and sockets are but cant tell you where your item is unless your on top of it.
You have been warned luckily I never paid for this which makes me happier though the 2 days I spent playing it I will never get back.
Sorry Splattercatgaming but you never mentioned that in your review, I would have thought this would have been a major point to mention.
Glad I checked comments, this told me everything I needed to know, thanks.
Wow, I'm surprised to find another person, that didn't beat Skyrim. I played it for like hundreds of hours, but never finished the main quest, because of the other stuff.
I never finished Skyrim.
As a Gothic fan, I found Skyrim lacking ;-)
How can you forget about Freespace/Freespace 2?! Those also had amazing scale differences between capitol ships
Nienix does a pretty good job of it as well. Especially when you jump into a frigate and all the enemy fighters are suddenly tiny little ants.
I am pretty excited by the direction they took this, filling the void that Rebel Galaxy Outlaw left... Shame about the loss of VR support, though. Elite Dangerous needs some competition in that regard.
I found the first one really great regarding flight model and the general moment-to-moment gameplay.
What I didn't like though was the time constraint you had in each level. This seems to be more chill in that direction and that puts it right back on my list.
Game idea: Very similar to this game, but with a greater focus on the station which acts as the players base. You're a clone of a great pirate and wanted by the space popo. Every time you encounter the space cops, they start a scan on you to trace the wifi that connects you to the cloning pod (so it can backup your memories), once that scanning progress bar reaches 100% (assuming you couldn't escape them in time) they send a fleet to blow up your space station. A big part of the game would be keeping your base constantly on the move,, picking up allies and resources along to way to eventually grow your little station into a fortress capable of defending itself. Then you raid the civilized worlds and take over the galaxy, muahahaha.
It'd be neat if you could walk around the station, talk to npcs who've joined you, chill out and shoot pool with them. Keep the hub feeling alive when you return from exploring, similar to how Hades kept the hub feeling alive in that game. Definitely have to have space blackjack and space hookers, it IS a pirate station after all. Maybe have your little station eventually grow into a small space tortuga, a space city FOR space pirates BY space pirates, owned by the immortal space pirate captain Jack Swallows!
'I War' also had a good size differential between the sizes of the ship classes.
21:40 no it was originally in the hatch you opened but thanks to you boosting in there and crashing into the container it glitched through the asteroid
honestly everspace was the first and only roguelike that i've ever played and I FUCKING LOVED the story
once you actually beat it and i mean truly beat it not just got to the end the first time and be done with it i mean go trough multiple clones to see it to the very end it was amazingly unique and refreshing
"I am flying with SO MUCH LIQUOR in the car...." LMAO! Damn, I love the side jokes lol
I maintain Everspace is one of the best game for feeling like you're flying an X-Wing ever made - almost as much as the old X-Wing games - and my pipe dream is to one day see Lucasfilm Games collab with Rockfish.
Don't worry Splattercat, I am exactly the same as you when it comes to carrying over many of my morals and ethics into how I play games. I too never attack non-combatants and/or NPC's and I have yet to play the 'Evil' side in any game I have played. I also go out of my way to avoid killing wildlife in games unless they attack me first.
Your comment about frigates reminded me of Freespace, which may actually be the first game to make you really feel that size difference. The general tone also reminds me of Rebel Galaxy, probably the second one more than the first. All good games.
Everspace and Rebel Galaxy are the only space games where I lose all sense of time and end up playing for hours before realizing it.
Rebel Galaxy has that great "Cowboy in space" vibe! ;-)
awesome game
@@Clan_Mech Interesting game but rough ;-)
Wait for Final release or just 3-6 months.
Addressing 12:00-13:00, there is an excellent video on Hogwarts legacy that talks about "the 15 second rule" which basically means there should be content every 15 seconds to keep the player engaged in the content. Some games take it to 20-25 seconds but you don't want content to spread out too far or the player might not want to engage with it or might finish main content too fast.
There he goes! Homeboy hugged a fanciful alien once!
Sorry no, it's not "open world". It's fairly linier. Just FYI for those watching.
'linear'
Splat please, the old Star wars games, Freespace games... there were ships you needed minutes to flyby :D
FreeSpace 2 did the size differences very good as well.
Omfg it's gorgeous!
Alright, going to buy this rn. Was waiting on hearing about multiple ships, and buddy, they got me. Thanks, Splat!
Nice! :D I've been looking forward to this game for a long while now
The power of ice-cream compels you! Man I can't wait for a 50% off sale, but I will.
oh shit, i had this in my library since it went into early access but wanted to wait for the full release since its a story driven game, and i didnt want to play it in pieces whenever theres an update. thanks for the reminder.
Hrmm, another game I'd have never known about if not for your channel. As an old hand at space 'sims' I might have to give this a try, been an age since 've played a good one.
Moosetracks ice cream is the BEST! Cheers man
Love this series. Can't wait to restart this now that it's out of alpha.
But i dont want to delete my old save :))
@@EnviROmaniac I would still recommend to do that tho ;-)
DEWIT!
love the bomber and vindicator class ships
I picked this game up a while ago because I thought it would be open world and sandboxy, but then I found out Everspace 1 was a roguelite and assumed this game would be the same, so I've ignored it.
NOW you're telling me it's not, and it's open world sandbox with mining and salvaging?! Be still my beating heart.
To the Everspace 2 team: Thankyou
I am morally bound in video games as well. Only game I was able to break that was Snow Piercer the game AKA Frost Punk
Same here I bought the game when it hit early access and have never installed it so I could enjoy it in it's full glory! Can't wait to jump in my first ship and start Daka,Daka,Daka...
And push red button to go fasta? ;-)
@@igorthelight Exactly!
It's been out for like 2 years on pc. It just left early access the other day. Everspace 1 is my fav space roguelite.
