@@thewolfofswingthat2035 Perhaps the no-interference policy of ASEAN would have to be revisited. Surely it is more costly for Malaysia to take care of both Rohingya and Burmese refugees than just sending the air raids and solve the problem at its roots. Malaysia had done it in the past after Lahad Datu invasion, can they do it again?
One of the benefits being a neutral nation is being a safe money making pit for superpowers. Even more so when the neutral nation is strategically located in the middle of most important trade route that had been established for millenia. Neither western bloc or eastern bloc is willing to lose that nation's favor in fear that she will be upset and favor the opposite bloc more. Typically, any nation leaders voice from south east asia would be taken seriously from both blocs and they both would stop their opposite bloc from controlling that region. The downside of it is, a neutral nation in southeast asia can never be allowed by both blocs to exceed a certain cap in military strength. Having a new superpower who have full control over malaccan strait would change the global trades forever and the trade routes would need to add another thousands of nautical miles if they are upset and refuse to let anyone pass through.
@@malmon3812 Oh yes really. Ever heard of sanctions? embargo? CAATSA? There's a cap for military strength before Uncle Sam considered a certain nation as a threat that needs some lesson.
@@lagubrok92 at what cap should they consider us a threat? Having a nuke? Our country have agreed Geneva Convention to not possess any WMD. Plus, i dont see any reason to sanction us just because we want to strengthen our military, given the threat that always evolving especially when we talking about South China Sea
I think the military cap only applies if we seek non western allied weaponry. I doubt Uncle Sam would give a limit if Malaysia let them set up a base here or made all Malaysian fleet and assets US made. Doesn’t mean Malaysia can ever be a world power though, (we just don’t have the land size and population size) but I think ASEAN as a whole can potentially be a world power if we manage to become more united and industrialised like EU. I genuinely think in a few decades, if current trends continue, Indonesia and Vietnam alone can become bona fide future world powers that would literally be too big to sanction to cause any real harm to them at that point.
@@FF-ch9nr Indeed, the cap is there if we want to buy weapons from the non-allied bloc. Giving our certain area to them to set up their base is the same as giving a knife to a serial killer before we sleep. Look what happened at Indonesia when they wanted to buy Su35S. Malaysia too, when they showed that they were interested with Russia's offer of their newest SU30SM2 and anti missile and aircraft system, Murica pressured both countries to not doing so. The problem with Murica made weapons is you'll be tied to them. Their weapons are more restrictive than the non-allied made weapons. That looks like a major red flag to me.

Before that Amcham, MAS (Malaysia American Society), MACEE, American University's Alumni in Malaysia, the American businesses, the American Embassy were all very active and thriving with lots of activities and events being held and organized. The business - business and people to people interactions between both countries were flourishing. Now they are all seems to be quiet and dormant.

The over dependence of Malaysia on the US in terms of trade is currently working against the former. Its currency is significantly losing its value since Trump became the president of the US.
Malaysia is not overly dependent on the US for trade. The US is Malaysia 3rd largest export markets after China and Singapore. The depreciation of the ringgit has nothing to do with its dependence on the US neither does it have to do with Trump. Its because the instability of our government, the corruption scandals, etc. High inflation in the US is forcing the Federal Reserves to increase interest rates aggresively, while inflation in Malaysia is under control. Bank Negara is not in such a rush to increase rates. The Ringgit will eventually strengthen. I believe the US will be in a recession. While the huge amount of investments coming to Malaysia recently will at least cushion some impact of an American recession and my bet is that the Ringgit will strengthen.
Malaysia is heavily reliant on china in fact they funded a fund to keep the yuan strong as it reflects to the ringgit. Also a cheaper ringgit is better for investors.

Not really actually.in our case, the political will of our politician to strengthen our military power is weak

@De Ch agree
The over dependence of Malaysia on the US in terms of trade is currently working against the former. Its currency is significantly losing its value since Trump became the president of the US.
So Trump did them wrong? How?
Malaysia is more dependent on china economically but will always be close to US in geopolitics.

@@mugiwaragang no bruh, the original design posted in the competition had blue and white stripes, and had red canton with white crescent and stars. There are some inspiration from Majapahit but it also contains most inspiration from the flag of Johor at the time.
After the design was chosen with a public vote, they changed the color schemes and the stars from a 5-pointed one to eventually the one we know today.

Kalau awak tanya saya malaysia boleh je hidup tanpa bergantung pada sumber amerika syarikat kerana malaysia dah saksikan bagaimana amerika syarikat mengekalkan kuasanya selaku negara yang memerintah dunia, amerika syarikat perlu beralah dalam soal keamanan dunia kerana amerika syarikat pun gagal dalam keamanan dunia, patutnya buat hal sendiri je, dalam persatuan bangsa-bangsa bersatu je amerika syarikat berani tarik diri memberi ruang pada negara eropah menyelesaikan masalah membuatkan mereka terbeban teruk, jadi amerika syarikat hanya buat hal sendiri walaupun ia terkenal dengan negara yang kuat kontroversi peperangan dan pelbagai hal gila berasal dari sana kalau awak faham apa saya tak puas hati samanya, dan jika niatnya baik, baiklah jadinya, harap hubungan malaysia dan amerika syarikat serta semua sekutunya baik baik sahaja kerana malaysia negara yang kecil mampu ada hubungan kukuh dengan semua negara

Malaysia western puppet country in South East
that's make sense since we do took inspration from a lot of other flag too such as Majapahit, UK and US. Those countries once ruled this land so what's there to be ashamed of as it's all became a history.

It is already benefitting us. China is in the midst of closing its economy. That is why companies are running away from China and moving to South East Asia.

China has helped Malaysia in the construction and manufacturing of large-scale infrastructure at a lower cost with relatively good quality. For American investors, it is a bit slow for our country because China is getting more and more eager to cooperate with our country because Malaysia's potential is huge for them.
Absolute non sense. China invest in Malaysia but they refused to hire Malaysians on a large scale. American companies has been investing in Malaysia for decades. Names such as Intel, Dell, ExxonMobil, Schlumberger, Google, Microsoft, etc. Employs hundreds of thousands of Malaysians. Without American companies who invested heavily in Malaysia for decades. We wouldnt be this developed. Chinese FDI's are useless. They invested in infrastructure that we don't need and it cost tens of billions of dollars of useless projects, thanks to Najib.
@@secrets.295 Your statement is true but the progress brought to Malaysia by the new china is very encouraging and the progress of American business is quite slow and even many Malaysians themselves do not know that American companies have existed for a long time. As Malaysians, we are a bit worried about China because their investment is more in they countries people and logistics dominance in Southeast Asia.
Yes China helping Malaysia seems like a good thing on the side of construction and manufacturing, but they are also doing that to a lot of countries as well like the south american countries. They are just looking to cement their power and influence in these countries so it's no surprise their govt are heavily involved with our infrastructure

Proud to be Malaysian
Why they not invest in Philippines
Because Philippines is poor country. Bisnes wise, Malaysia is more competent than others except Singapore
Malaysia and US have much in common. Both are in decline, the people are divided, corruption is endemic, self-serving politicians have no qualms playing the racial and religious card, there is also a conservative "Republican" party in Malaysia, flat-earthers etc. After 9/11 US expats left in droves. Now the US government is "showing interests" in Malaysia again because the US is hoping to build a military base in the Straits of Malacca.
They already have a military base in Indonesia and Thailand, Singapore itself is just little Israel in terms of geopolitics. The best malaysia can do is stay neutral cause our economy and trade depends 50% on china and 35% on usa , 15% on the rest of the global supply chain
