  • Branch Together brings Christians together to read the Bible every day. We know as Christians that we are called to "branch out" and reach the world around us, but first we must come "together" and develop habits that help us grow to be more like the people Jesus is calling us to be. So before we Branch Out, we Branch Together. Some people might call this Daily Devotions, or Quiet Time...whatever you call it, our videos kickstart your most important daily habit.

I definitely felt like sharing this.
I read the word of God every day while my husband is more in my opinion a ritualistic Christian.
One day a relative of mine economically weak called me and discussed that he was really sick, I sympathized with him and assured him of my prayers.
After I hung up the phone my husband asked me why I didn't opt to take him to a doctor and treat him , saying that my promise of prayers was not enough, I immediately called him back and took him to the doctor and found he had very advanced stage of tuberculosis and had him treated and restored to good health.
Here my husband came out as a doer rather than being a reader, listener of the word, which was very surprising to me and I also learnt another lesson that I should not be judgemental.
I thought I should share this here.

Walk by faith not by sight.
When we walk by sight, we act with men rules, opinions...
When walking by faith we act with god words and promises.
I see/feel sick or anxiety, but act brave and as if healthy.
I see someone that I judge dangerous but I welcome him with open arm and the love of God.
It takes a lot of faith to stop believing what we see and feel and go to the other side, practice, "work" makes it easier.

I love reading scripture in context, James isn't speaking of religious rituals/works, as I was taught growing up in religion, but rather of living the law of love. ❤

I love this chapter already! I’ve been guilty of showing favoritism before, and am convicted by this, but I’ve also shown engagement across the board in other matters. Those are usually moments of conscious effort to be loving. The call I make to myself today is to be more conscious of living a loving life and showing God-like love to all. Bless you BT

I know this video was posted 4 years ago and I’m not sure if BT still checks the responses but a thought occurred to me as I was listening to this commentary: God shows His faith in humanity by deeming us important enough to send His Son to die for us. This sums up James’ idea that faith and works together is what love is. We are obedient to God by having faith backed up by our works.

You guys are doing an awesome thing here, I really like your videos. They are Biblical, to the point, and challenge us as believers to really try to understand what it is we read in our Bibles. I like how you challenge us as individuals as well, emphasising the importance of living out what the Bible says and not just telling us what we want to hear. I very much appreciate your work. It has become a part of my morning Bible study, and it will stay that way!

Abraham was justified by the moving of his arm on the axe towards his son's head (aka - Faith) (belief + conviction/strong intent), not by the head falling to the floor (actual results of moving actions/works). He was justified right before the head was cut off, not after.
In the same way, we are justified right when we get the faith, and before we put our faith into action, not after it's all said and done (like some mormons believe from 2 Nephi 25:23). While this point seems almost irrelevant, it's very important and is very anti-religious.
So while actions alone won't save us and faith kinda will, the specific type of Salvific Faith in Christ produces so much adrenaline faith and conviction that actions *tend to* happen a LOT, and are also a good indicator of whether a person has the good flavor of Faith to begin with (See "The Doctrine of Sanctification" or the "Third use of the Law"). James 2:24 doesn't say that we are justified by works, but it does indicate how we can use the works we have as a very reliable lens to view faith.
All James 2 meant was that the heads on the floor as a result of intent indicates that the arm was likely moving towards it with an axe. No one should disagree with this. In fact, a head on the ground is a FANTASTIC piece of evidence of moving faith that everyone should see as having great value.
Therefore, if you definite it technically, Faith without works isn't really dead, but only if the Faith is heavy enough to have God convinced (good luck with that). In other words, if God stops your hand from killing Issac, you are still justified by the hand that moved the axe, even though his head is still attached to his body. The thief on the cross had heavy Faith with no works, and made it to paradise with no actions at all, but if he were to live 5 more years, he would of had a transformed life with free flowing fruits that everyone could have seen as an indicator of his faith. I like the thief on the cross, because it shows us what true saving faith without works would require, which is a supernatural change in heart (Ezekiel 36:26). A change in heart will always generate a change in actions, but like I said, the thief on the cross died before his fruits could of been seen by others. It's the actions of God on the heart, and convincing Faith in Christ that saved him, but it was the evidence of works that would of justified his faith to everyone else around (if he had lived a little longer).

Hello. I have a question. To the part where you said that if a person chooses favoritism, they are law-breakers, and they sin and they basically don't believe in Jesus and his love and loving others the way we want to be loved ...
Is that not basically more of the old testament times? Because as a Christian I will apply only CERTAIN things from the old testament that god tells me to. Because it was written before Jesus was crucified and resurrected. And I follow everything that is in the new testament. That is how I was taught to live by my parents who are also believers.

Sadly we have many religious leaders nowadays who are like that, priests or pastors, who in time of our desperate need aren't available to help us, while the most despicable "Samaritans" of our time, who are labeled false religion and cults by the holier-than-thous like Muslims and JWitness, Mormons etc are they who extend a helping hand to us in time of need. Which of these two types of people, do you think REFLECTS the LOVE of Christ? Your church pastor or fellow member who doesn't give a damn if you die in your misery OR those who have helped you OUT of your misery?
    Judge fairly (John 7:24)
It is to them, and NOT to the uncaring goats that The Shepherd King would one day say,
Matthew 25:34-40 Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’
Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and clothe You?
When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
And the king will answer them, ‘I tell you the truth, just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’
This is why Jesus is the ONLY WAY to The Father (John 14:6 & Acts 4:12) BECAUSE those who REFLECT His Character and FOLLOW HIS WAY, NOT just those who confess His Name, (Matthew 7:21 onwards) will INHERIT The Kingdom of Heaven.
For it is NOT those who hear the law who are righteous before GOD, but those who DO the law will be declared righteous. (Romans 2:13)
They are the TRUE Christians IN HEART, although they wear another religious label, on the outward, AND WILL BE SAVED WHEN YESHUA RETURNS, all because GOD IS JUDGES FAIRLY. For man looks on the outward appearance BUT GOD LOOKS ON THE HEART. (1 Samuel 16:7)

I'm sure you could find people who call themselves Christians and do this, but this is exactly opposite of what Jesus did. Jesus showed preference to the weak, the poor, the downcast, the oppressed, the hurting and the needy. He came to bring healing and life.

"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
Your interpretation of James 2 is in direct contradiction with passages like Romans 4:5 above. A dead faith is not profitable to others, but a dead faith is still saving faith according to the Bible, and the explicit words of Paul. Why? Because salvation is not of works. It isn't of works after we get saved either. We *should* walk in newness of life, that does not mean we are required to do good works to stay saved or get saved. It is our reasonable service to do good works. Stop trying to sneak works into salvation by taking passages out of context and ignoring the precise language used.
How could salvation be called a free gift if you are required to do some vague, undefined amount of works to prove or show that you are saved? That's terrible logic, and a false gospel.
