    1. Nothing

      At least you called it, I disklike.
      Everyone has his own opinion, although i cant understand yours with the gps
      The older GPS was so laggy and now with the capacitive its way better

      Seriously, not a single nibble, concern, problem, ... Then you might be a fanboy and not a critic :) Kidding. Enjoy! I wanted a GTI bad, but the cost just made the Woflsburg Golf my best choice at the time. Could not justify the extra 10-15K; and I could not deal with the plaid seating in the two lower end models ....

    • @wgrock
      @wgrock 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt McGregor As an owner it's hard to not be a fanboy. I guess if you don't like the plaid than the GTI just isn't for you. Too bad. I'm sure the Wolfsburg is okay ;)

    • @Bare_Essence
      @Bare_Essence 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Will's Pointy Things I'm a fanboy too. This will be my third golf. No GTI yet. Was sticking to the TDIs until they went away. No car comes close enough to the Golf line though many are trying really hard.

    Lmao I feel that the 4 doors look way better i don't like 2 door hatch like whats the point of getting a hatch if your getting it 2 doors?

      Increased visibility, less weight, and to people like me it's more aesthetically appealing.

    • @AlienNinjaPuppy
      @AlienNinjaPuppy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Archer not true. 2 doors has less visibility. just look at supercars. also, 4 doors are known to be lighter than 2 doors.

    • @markhaidar4572
      @markhaidar4572 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      AlienNinjaPuppy I've owned both 2 door and 4 door mk6 GTIs and there is better visibility in the 2 door.

      3 door is more for superminis, not so much for a GTi you’re gonna be using day to day and carrying mates/family about. Just that little bit more practical 🤷🏾‍♂️

      I think the 4 door looks more proportional than the 2 door, fits the body lines better.

    One thing I find annyoying is the build up of dirt, etc. at the bottom of the hatch on top of the bumper. Dirt piles up there after raining, etc.

    I had exactly the opposite B-Pillar visibility issue with my Mark VI 2-Door Golf (TDI). I sit so far back, the longer door and further back position in which I sit caused a very serious visibility issue. I know your pain. The 4-door Mark VII (part of the TDI trade-in) is perfect for me since the B-Pillar is more forward and I can now look over my shoulder and see traffic properly just behind and in front of the pillar. I'm 6'4 btw. I now have to deal again with pulling myself forward to get out of the car (around the pillar which is directly to my left, something that the 2-door did not require. One thing you did not mention is dinging the very large doors on the 2-door; which I had to learn not to do. The doors are simply huge (long) and if you push them open there better be clearance. You have to open them carefully. I agree that the rear doors are useful. They are also helpful in airflow, since you can open them slightly or all the way, with the sunroof open. The 2-door was always blustery in the front seats at high speeds with the sunroof open. The rear seats in my 2-door rarely got used, only things that I could fling over the seats or move the seat forward and shove in the back. Enjoy your GTI!

    Chris, thank you very much for your car reviews and your channel. I watch a lot of car videos, you have no idea how much I'm tired of annoying car reviews that start with rave music, and it goes downhill from there. You actually own these cars and your perception is much more valuable than of so called "professional" car reviewers.

    I really dislike the gas pedal, I miss the bottom hinged ones.. like the Passat and Jetta still have. Also don't like the door stop, they got rid of the midway stop point... sucks big time so if I get one, I will switch out the door check (I think that's the proper name).

    I have a 2017 GTI SE and my only real complaint is that the stock US mirrors are a little too small. I have a good habit of looking but regardless these mirrors have big blind spots. (I might order the Euro spec mirrors that are curved on the ends to help reveal blindspots to remedy this.)
    I wish the windows rolled up/down with the key fob (I know this can be changed via VAGCOM).
    I wish the passenger mirror tilted down in reverse (I know this can be changed via VAGCOM).
    These are both features I grew to love from my days with an old E39.

    1. No trunk release button in the cabin. 2. Worthless sunglasses holder. 3. No power plug in the back seat. That's about the only gripes I have about my MKVI.

    Love the videos so far! Perhaps it's time I part from my 350z convertible for similar reasons. I need a second car with more practicality, yet sporty. Eyeing a 2011 DSG in white and I can't stop thinking about it.

      @sirgalahad1470 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I owned an original 204Z in college. When the 350Z came out, I was really disappointed that they targeted a higher income segment with that car instead of us common folk. Never bought one because of that. I owned a 2010 GTI in white and it was the best bang for the buck ever!

      Don't frown, it's still pretty damn awesome. I love mine, and decided not to buy the 2016 since I don't use the carplay/a.auto stuff. The sport package 2017 model wasn't on sale yet, but was very tempting to wait for, but figured no need for me to wait when I could get a good deal on an Autobahn 2015 model.

    The benefits of a capacitive touchscreen far outweigh cons. Better touch accuracy, easier scrolling, not having to press as hard, and better clarity of the display to name a few. Get some gloves with touchscreen compatible fingertips and you no longer have an issue.

It's not as much fun to drive as GTI, but AWD helps during winter with snow tires. Glad you like your gti, might check out a trade in at colonial. Btw, can't help noticing you are driving on roads I drive on wboro.

    Most new cars have many issues with electronics since each of those now are built with computers inside of them.

    So how's reliability been for you so far?

    I have a '16 with the lighting package and fog lights. I actually don't use the fog lights most of the time because when they are on the "turn" lights don't turn on with the turn signal or the steering wheel. In other words you lose some of the benefits of the lighting package with the fog lights turned on.

    $100 GTI Tuner Hack. How much can you actually improve a GTI for under $100? Turns out quite a bit.
    #1 Dogbone Bushing Upgrade. For $40 you can eliminate about 90% of the driveline windup that causes wheel hop on 'brisk' acceleration, and likewise under heavy braking. This bushing slips inside the existing hollow bushing to stiffen it up. Why VW chooses the softer bushing in the GTI is a mystery. I detect no change in NVH.
    #2 Polyurethane RSB Bushings (~20) + the 11mm Star-drive socket (~$10 at Sears) you'll need to install them. This adds just a bit of rear roll stiffness to improve turn-in and reduce understeer. You will definitely notice this in the twisties, and again, I can't tell any change in NVH.
    Installing both of these just adds more "GTI-ness" to an already great car, without having to get radical with mods or your checkbook. Even if you pay to have these installed, it should only take under an hour on the rack of any competent shop to do both.

    It's not true that Apple CarPlay is not available in a 2016 model. I've got a 2016 GTI, albeit 4-door, and it's got Apple CarPlay capability.

    • @davidfuhrer6679

      My 2016 2-door GTI S (base model in every regard), came standard with Apple Car Play. I love it. Car Play is standard on 2016/2017 GTI 2-doors. The 2 door must have been discontinued (FOR THE USA, IT STILL EXISTS) just after they started to churn out 2017's. The only difference between a 2016 & 2017 GTI 2-door is a 6 opposed to a 7. The 2015, from what I've read DOESN"T have Apple Car Play.

  • @robertdavis5714

    Invest in proper replacement shifters. I have had the extenders like you have, but I eventually purchased the S2T replacements. While being slightly expensive (I mean probably wayy overpriced) they feel a lot better, from the actual pull/click/sound to build quality.

    Thought the break in was 1000 miles. Does this car lose a lot of power in hotter climates? I live in SoCal and I'm trying to decide getting the exact same car vs a 2017 Toyota 86. I feel like the GTI will have a huge hit in performance under these 80s-90s degrees weathers all year long.

    Hey Chris, will you wrap the roof black?

  • @johncrane3493
    @johncrane3493 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, the lack of fog lights on the Sport model just seems cheap to me, especially since they come on the S model. It appears that VW is dropping the Sport model for 2018 model year.

    • @johncrane3493
      @johncrane3493 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use my fogs a lot on the unlit highways around where I live, so they are important to me. The Sport is a great deal and I like the distinctive wheels, but leaving off the fogs just seems silly when they come on the base S model. Hey, enjoy it. The Sport model will be relatively rare within the MK7 GTI lineup.

  • @paull8678
    @paull8678 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Odd, my touchscreen works with my gloves on but my gloves have tips designed for cellphone use. Not a fan of the Austins (I've ordered something else) but your wheels look 10x better. Sort of bizarre that my S came with fog lights but yours doesn't. But mine has the crappy H15 high beam/DRL combo, which is really the only thing I dislike about mine that's hard to change.

  • @GTI_CHHA
    @GTI_CHHA 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure if this also holds for the NA GTIs, but the European GTIs do not have the fog wiring pre-installed (in case of no fogs). And the euro model comes with stock 17 inch wheels only. 18 and 19 inch are optional. Interesting difference, your stock Nogaro wheels are not available for the European GTIs, but they are optional for the GTD. And there are engine differences, but you know that already.

    • @danI43541
      @danI43541 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GTI_CHHA in Europe you can actually spec your cars! You can't put any options on this GTI Sport, if you want e.g. Xenon lights or idk bigger screen you need to go for another trim level.. that's the case with most of the (VAG) cars in the us. I prefer the European system where you have the shitty base car and put options on it without (m)any restrictions

  • @xXBurntBaconXx

    Maybe #6 you could put done depreciation? In Canada a 5-dr DSG Mk6 GTI starts around $38k (which is really pricey, a Mustang GT starts at that price). I've seen 2015s with 40,000km going for under $25k, and 2016 with under 15,000km for under 30k (26k was the most recent). Gotta admit thats a big hit. I'm planning on waiting until next year to pick one up.

    When do you think we will see the face lifted Golf GTI/R in the States? I want to buy the R this spring and not sure if I should wait or just get the 2017? Thanks.
    I always had Mustangs and Japanese cars and really want to get in the R and see what it's all about, just over the big and heavy cars now, plus the hatch seems like it will be better for everyday usable space.

      Chris On Cars I'm not sure what to do now, my car has been paid off for few months now and have a really bad itch for the Golf R and they are really available now in New Jersey.
      What would you say are the biggest benefits to the face lifted ones? Did they say anything about the LED tail lights coming over to the States and the bump in power plus new DSG?
      BTW thanks for the reply and so far love the videos you put out.

    The LED fogl ights are not that bright, and I think they are driving lights, different OPTICS...also with Xenon ya get the corner H7 lights which really works WELL, as long as the fogs are OFF, they don't come on with fogs engaged, both light up when in reverse, very handy, ya can SEE!

    Great video. I owned a 2010 2-Door MK6 and loved it. I am currently shopping for a 2017 GTI so any videos of this car will never be boring to me. You might look at #AskDAP who has a GTI specific channel of how-to videos and parts sales. Maybe he has a better and cheaper solution for the fog lights. Also, as your channel grows maybe some of your subscribers might live not too far from you and they might have a new car for your to review. Or maybe not new but something really cool to drive. I've seen that a lot on some other channels.
    Keep up the good work Great stuff!

    A Golf is not a coupe style anyway, sort of boxy for packaging reasons, so four doors don't really effect the styling over a two door.

      Andrew Wong I drive a mk6 gti (2013) w/ convience and sunroof package, and I must say I love the sunroof. When its open during the summer it makes the experience of driving the car that little bit better. As far as the plaid seats go, it depends on whether you like leather or not. Iv seat in and drove gtis that had the leather and they just arent for me. That being said I prefer the beautiful, historical plaid seats to their leather counterparts. :) Hope I helped!

      Is there no Alcantara option in NA? You'd have plaid seating areas with Alcantara/synthetic leather sides, backs, headrests and armrests.

      The leather seats are essentially vinyl (sorry, "leatherette") and I'm not crazy about them. My wife has another VW with the leatherette seats and they get sweaty on long drives in the summer. Also slippery as mentioned earlier. I have a GTI with the plaid seats and I'm a big fan of them.

    One of the only things that I dislike about my MK7 are the taillights. Kinda drives me nuts that the LED taillights are not available straight from the factory. Been toying with installing them as a aftermarket kit. But we'll see. Great video as always. Thanks for sharing.

      ***** My understanding is in the US the LED tails are not available because of a DOT regulation regarding the minimum height of the turn signal. Which is just another example of why we can't have nice things.

    Wow! Honestly, for the price of the GTI sport, I think it's an amazing car. While anything can be improved, all these complaints are unreal. Nothing else drives like a VW and the solid build quality is unmatched by anything in it's price range. I drive a base model Golf and can't believe how good it is. No way would I complain about it, considering how inexpensive it is and how much fun it is to drive.

Just hearing people talk about how they love their car is useless noise. We know it's a "good" car. But the devil is in the details.

    I don't understand the US 2017, 2016 car bla bla... if the car is registered/build in 2016 it's well a 2016 car... that's the system we use in Europe, so I don't understand why the US one is different
    And I love this car! I'd get a manual and other wheels but I think you're quite restricted with options in USA!

      One thing you have to understands is that the dealerships (Centers) aren't owned by VW, owned by a sales subsidiary. They have a contract with VW to sell their vehicles for X amount. So they have to in a way "Lie" to the customers to make the sales.

      I don't know where you from but in Sweden, if the car is built after the summer, can't remember if it's june or july, then it is the next year's model. So if I by a car which was built in march it's a -17. If a buy one that is built in septemer, it's a -18.

    Most of these dislikes thankfully don't apply to me, since I'm not judging the car on prior ownership.
    I would, however, like a driver side trunk release button, mirrors that swivel in on locking, ability to change nav voice to British, larger reflective side mirrors (keep housing body same size), add door half way stop points. There's my five.

    I have last year's model. On the area around the base of the shifter, does it still have 4 blank slots for option buttons that the US market cars don't get?
    Can you get headlamp washers? My car has cutouts for them but they weren't available on US marketed cars!
    Can you close the windows with the key fob? My car doesn't do it, just ridiculous especially on a car costing over $29,000!
    Does the car still have a rear backup camera? They are unreliable. I've had mine fixed once and then replaced (under warranty fortunately). If mine jams again after warranty coverage ends, I'm going to just remove it.
    VW put heated mirrors but they don't power-fold. Unbelievable. Half the people at work have cheaper cars and they have powerfold mirrors!

    6.- curb to curb is higher than what some SUVs have. (GTI 10.9m - Outlander ASX 10.6m)
    7.- Related to 6, dynamics in taking a curve in high speed is poor, that is MQB platform fault, S3 also have lot of under-steer because of this, but on this GTI the stability control kills the engine and the fun.
    You're welcome.
