The biggest thing I learned about Kanye in this doc was how supportive his mom was of his work

damn, I'm kinda jealous of him you know. My mom didn't even care if I understand or not about my education, he just wanted me to get an A. My mom didn't even try to teach me stuff that I don't understand or things she knew.

I love this. There's also a scene when Kanye walks into Jayz studio session and he starts rapping a verse that he thinks Jayz should put on his song it might have been "Never let me down". And when Jay z hears the verse he loves it and approves Kanye to have his verse on the song and Jayz says "closed mouths don't get fed, if he didn't say anything he wouldn't be on this song" and I feel like that was an important moment in the documentary because if you don't go for what you want its not gonna walk to you, you have to get up and get it.

"You can be in the air and on the ground at the same time. The giant looks in the mirror and sees nothing" - Donda West, Jeen-Yuhs Act 1
Fast-forward to Coachella 2011. Kanye is performing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The large, imposing backdrop behind him is a stone-carved Greek sculpture depicting Athena's battle with Alcyoneus. In Greek mythology, Alcyoneus is a giant, and is said to be immortal only when he is touching the ground so that the power of his mother can flow through him and give him strength. In the sculpture, Athena has broken Alcyoneus' contact with the ground, leaving him mortally vulnerable.
Kanye never forgot what she told him in that seemingly trivial conversation. He held onto those words until he endured Athena's attack: the backlash from the 2009 VMA's incident. He had lost his contact with the ground and much like Alcyoneus the giant, he was without the power of his mother.
No matter how much you think you know his art, there's always a level deeper waiting to be discovered in the intersection of music, fashion, and fine art. How can you compare any other rapper to this?

I showed my mom the clip of kanye and his mom goofing around and talking and realized I hadn’t had that type of relationship with my mom since I was a kid. I started crying and told her I missed her, since my life has made it my family became second and my future became number one, I started to neglect them. We’re better than ever, and what’s funny is Kanye’s story is similar to mine, I was raised by a single mom intelligent teacher who was a Christian, who sat me down and made me read tons of books as a kid, always told me I could do anything with my life, she gave me confidence, wisdom and everything I needed. It’s true, the only person who will ever love you unconditionally forever is your mom, because you are her blood. Siblings can turn on eachother, uncles turn, dads turn.

The scene where Kanye is rapping to Scarface was huge for me. For one, what a moment! And two, it shows how just getting that validation from someone you admire can have a huge impact on your trajectory. Scarface didn't have to be so candid and complimentary, he easily could have let his ego take over. But that one moment meant the world to Kanye.

“Ask for what you want, there will be people who want to help you.”
Yes!!! I biked across America last year and when I decided to believe in myself, everything began to move into place to help me make that adventure happen. For that trip I didn’t ask very often for help but there were a whole lot of people who wanted to help anyways. Someone even drove over 6 hours to bring me a better bike. Like asking for help is overwhelming but people are out there willing to care if they know what is needed.

I thought it was fascinating how “sheepish” he looked throughout the entire episode. It’s encouraging to artists and creatives such as myself in these early stages. We can get insecure about how awkward we might feel on camera, or get nervous about how we stutter when talking business to other people in the industry. It’s crazy to see somebody at the top, who’s been at the top for years in that same awkward stage I’m in now

    • @Jack115.
      @Jack115. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I learned this from Muhammad Ali and studying Cus damato. You need to instill j yourself crazy beliefs like “I am the greatest rapper, imma be number 1.” And as you work hard for it, your experiences begin to reflect what you told yourself, and eventually what you told yourself becomes reality, your faith in yourself becomes confirmed as your experiences begin to Match what you told yourself. as long as you keep working for it. I was a shy kid growing up, and I listened to last call and what struck me was “Use my arrogance as a steam to power my dreams”, and “I love all your shit talking/you got nothing better to do with yourself/ I done proved it myself”. It’s pretty much pure creation, you willed yourself to become something and you willed yourself to go through all the pain/struggle/training to accomplish it, so it becomes yours. learn from other brothers, kanye learned too.

Just woke upend saw this episode from you guys, saw the spoiler alert and had to go watch the doc first! loved the raw moments. Loved that this guy Koodie was around Kanye so long ago believing in him... he was a validation for Kanye too. I mean its just incredible that someone believes in you in these early ages.... Kanyes Mom is so sweet...... wow. I love watching documentaries, that go back into how the person got started... its amazing to see the journey... And one more time I realized how parental belief in the child is so so so important.... I didn't now have that as much as a kid... but this is my biggest priority now for my daughter. Be that first believer of her and instill that in her - shat she has to believe in herself no matter what she does... I believe that I am doing it well and seeing these examples inspires me even more. I feel like watching Documentaries, Meaningful Movies, Reality Shows and now your channel is my life university. My mom passed away when I Was 17 from breast cancer and I moved to USA alone shortly after.... Life was rough for me with no money or much support. I wish I had that Moms guidance too... Despite how hard life is having that person who knows " rhymes of your heart" and reminds you of who you are and where you are heading is just so powerful!!!
Man I am touched ! this was good watch early in the morning... I woke up at 6 AM today from a strange dream, opened youtube and all this happened.. Feeling emotional. One thing I really noticed right out the gate on that doc was how well-dressed Kanye was! Not just after he blew up... But before anything even happened he was still fly as hell! His drip was immaculate! No wonder he went on to dominate the fashion game as well! Man knew what he was talkin about!

I enjoyed the footage of Kanye and his mother. When mom thinks that you are the best and makes you feel like you are the best, you can be the best. You need a big fan to keep yourself motivated. I guess you can be your own biggest fan too. Or maybe you should be the biggest fan of yourself. Well there it is: Be Your Biggest Fan

This video meant to much to me. I have been making TH-cam videos for 8 years and never really found my footing. But never ever did I consider quitting. I built a whole business making TH-cam video for other people all so I could continue funding my own videos. I will continue on this path as long as I need to, never wavering. Because I know what I want.

17:37 there's a part in the doc where Kanye asks Jay to be in one of his songs. After he spit his verse, jay was blown away and says "closed mouth don't get fed" how true is that?

I have been a fan for half a decade and when I watched the doc I went to see if y’all made a breakdown. And here it is! The retainer scenes caught me off guard. It showed me how unapologetically authentic Ye was. Humble yet knows his worth. Makes me appreciate Donda even more. Kanye doc motivates me to create more and honestly go out of my comfort zone. And y’all channel as a mix 🤯

I really learned just how significant Donda was to him. In the doc, yes he still has a lil arrogance about him but he also was grounded as well. Multiple doors were shut but as we saw he still kept going w/o lil complaints. The humbleness was there and Donda had a big role on how he was. Then, he had the perfect balance just as Donda said, she was very vital. I also liked how much of a big fan she was to him. Most parents find it difficult to support their child’s dreams in certain/alternative professions as oppose to the usual, high earning jobs they would like their child to follow through. So it was refreshing to see how supportive she was, she even recited his old bars from school. All in all i was ver impressed w/ the first episode and im looking forward to the next ones. He really is a genius and learned a few lessons aswell🙌🏾👌🏾

Great doc! But I feel like this video started as a great conversation about the Kanye and his Jeen-yus story, but slowly turned into a 1st seat view into the struggles these 2 creators are having with making a real name for themselves. I hope they do another video on part 2, but save the "cliff notes & psychotherapy for creators"for another time. Lol
