I have a C. G. Bonehill SxS hammer gun made in Birmingham , England 1899. Its Black powder proofed and has heavy 32 inch barrels in 10 ga. Its sound and been tested , see myself shooting it with mild English " Field loads" of 3 1/4 drams of 2 F powder and 1 1/8 oz of shot.

Great channel. I have and shoot a Purdey bar in wood hammer gun Damascus nitro proof. Made in 1879. Fits me well and shoots wonderfully. I have also shot pheasants with it. Still serviceable after 140 + years. Cheers Ron

    We need more Doug!
PS that is a very nice gun, is it available for sale or has someone snapped it up for themselves?
I use a WW Greener “Dominion” hammer gun, it’s still my fav for pigeons, you can also open it with the hammers cocked, just an extra layer of safety.

I still take my hammers 12 bore gun to shoot sporting clays occasionally. A George Fuller, made in 1890, 30 inch Damascus Barrels. Always shoot a light load cartridge and it is a pleasure to handle. Attracts a lot of attention at the gun club. An old boy I knew wouldn't shoot anything else but his Boswell hammers gun as his view was that "hammerless guns look like a spaniel with the ears fallen off !".

I have a Stephen Grant hammer gun, 1869, it has a Jones rotary lock underneath. It still shoots Pheasants just as well now as it did when it was made 152 years ago! It does often bring a smile to my face.
I would avoid de-cocking the hammers with the gun loaded and closed, but rather open the gun first.
Ive just bought my second one and would be happy to find yet another.

My EM Reilly 16 bore hammer gun has not got a fancy name, is 100 years old, survived Doug's and your scrutiny and I really enjoy using it. It does always put a smile on my face

Hammer doubles, and sometimes singles, either shotgun or rifle, are the only thing I use, or probably ever will.

Once again thank you for another great video. It is so nice to see people take the time to appreciate things from the past. I don’t own a hammer gun, but if I ever find one I can afford I will definitely pick it up. I love shooting pieces of history.

Enjoyed the video. If the right gun comes along I would love to add it to my collection. A brisk fall afternoon on a dove field with an old hammer gun would be wonderful.

I had a Pedrosoli hammer shot well and shot clays for a bit of fun. Plenty of these guns available , nice for something different. It did kick but I shot 28gms /32gms thru it.I decided to reduce my armoury so it had to move on.

Great video, I borrowed an old webly and Scott sxs hammer gun off a mate of mine, it was really nice to shoot, the only downside was that I kept forgetting to cock the hammers 🤦

I got sent the link to this by a friend from the pheasant shoot at Craigmore Station in (NZ) who knows I enjoy my hammer shotguns.
My SxS hammer shotgun is a Husqvarna, it is quite a plain back action shotgun which I use during our NZ water fowl season.
But on duck opening morning, I use my Johnathan Jones, a NZ made single barrel percussion 12g muzzle loading shotgun, it also comes out on our pheasant shoots too.
Both my shotguns use black powder and bismuth shot which give a gentle push recoil unlike a modern shell!
I'd love to see you guys do a video on muzzle loaders too.

A great channel here love ur videos and always learn something. I have a browning ou and a mirouka ss 20g and a little 410. Adding a ss hammer gum would be great and fun to have but licensing in NI where I live might say I have enough. Maybe this is why hammer guns are cheap now as u must really want one to use space on a licence

I shoot an Eclipse Gun G when I can use lead shot. I reload my ammo using hulls and 1f Goex black powder I get at the local gun club since the sun it pre smokeless powder. Formula is simple. Scoop of powder and the same scoop of any size shot you like, including buck shot. If anyone reading this is interested, contact me online using Massinger and I will talky you thought it. Guns like this are a dime a dozen and chaper than or not the much more spendy that a new gun. Just make sure the lock is not loose. However, this can also be fixed by any lock smith willing to take the time to ad shims to tighten up the lock.

Let's see what I can shoot with it, then the camera is aimed at the sky, then you hear somebody say pull and you hear some clanking going on, maybe it's the gun firing, maybe it's the device throwing the clay pigeons, who knows, but if he's hitting anything I sure as hell ain't seen it.
