I have not noticed any side effects except for some stomach aches earlier on from dutasteride. I figured out that I can avoid stomach aches as long as I take dutasteride with a full glass of water. My doses are 0.5mg of dutasteride, 2.5mg of oral minoxidil and 5% foam minoxidil every day. I take half of the oral minoxidil pill in the morning and the other half in the evening. I checked my blood pressure recently, and it's 105/68. I was worried that oral minoxidil would lower my blood pressure when I increased it from 1.25mg to 2.5mg, but that didn't happen. I used to use finasteride, but I was losing my hair rapidly while I was on 1mg per day. That's why I've been using dutasteride every day for the last five months. I think my hair has been a lot more stable over the last five months than it was during the previous five months, so dutasteride is probably doing a good job of inhibiting DHT.

Hi Doc, from your understanding could that be an hormonal change in acne due to switching to oral fin and oral min? Been on topical fin and min for a year, just had my HT last week and switch to prescribed oral fin and min. Currently seeing an outbreak of acne all over my body. Could this be hormonal acne from either oral fin or min?
I started using minoxidil and finasteride around 7 months back and I got really great results after an initial shed which was quite expected. However, around the 6 months mark I started shedding hair again and my scalp started to become more visible. I’ve often heard people talking about a second shed on minoxidil and I’m guessing that’s what I’m going through given the fact that they all claim that it happens around the 6-7 months mark. Can you please make a video addressing this?
Hey Iam going through the same stage. I already thought of upping the dose of finasteride to 1 mg a day (currently on 1mg every other day). Can u post ur update here in maybe 2 months. Im pretty unsecure right now about it and I hope the shedding ends.
I’ve heard sheds can happen 1-2 times a year on minoxidil but they get less frequent and intense over time. I guess it’s all part of the process. With that said I added oral to my topical minoxidil routine.
Sometimes the regrowing hairs go through more than one cycle. They may grow back thicker after each one though. Can't start a new, more healthy anagen phase without going through the telogen phase.
Will you all please do a video about telogen affluveum? Also addressing the role of minoxidil with it? Does minoxidil stop it? Or does it have to go through its process? Or does minoxidil just help the hair regrow?
I stopped using topical liquid minoxidil and not a foam one cause i had intense itching i tried to push cuz the results were good. Now my question is will i have the same sideeffect if i use oral minoxidil????? Any who used oral minoxidil plz help. We dont have foam minoxidil in our country dont know why.

Hi Dr. Jayaprakash,, I’m interested in trying topical Minoxidil (not oral) for hair loss, but I have some concerns about potential side effects, especially related to blood pressure and the heart. I’ve heard that in some cases, Minoxidil can cause fluid retention around the heart. Is this risk associated with topical application of Minoxidil, or is it mainly a concern with oral use? Thanks for your insight!
Hi doctor, I wonder the combination finasteride+minoxidil is more effective at preventing further loss of follicles as compared to just finasteride? Or is the role of minoxidil strictly to maximise the growing potential of whatever follicles are still present on the scalp? Or is the answer somewhere in between?
It is very common for people to use both together. Finasteride can stop or hinder further hair loss but does not promote growth. Minoxidil mainly stimulates hair growth.
It is pretty easy to take a finasteride pill and minoxidil pill every day. You could probably take them at the same time. I don't think they have any bad interactions with each other. It might be better because you might have to change your dose of oral minoxidil to make sure you're getting good results while minimizing the the risk of side effects.

Hello Doctor. I'm from Indonesia. I want to ask a question, please be willing to answer in full. 1. Are all brands of oral minoxidil made from the same minoxidil? Or does each minoxidil brand have a different quality? 2. The use of topical minoxidil in men is as much as 5%, if converted to units of mg, how many mg is that? So that it can be equated with its use 2 times a day. 3. What is the working half-life of taking minoxidil 2.5 mg? And if I'm currently taking 2.5 mg of minoxidil orally, does it need to be taken 2 times a day morning and night? 4. For how long should I take 2.5 mg of minoxidil and then increase it to 5 mg? Please if you answer in full. Thank you doctor 🙏
Oral minoxidil should b taken at 2.5 mg at night for 3 months.. After that increase the dose to 3.75 mg for 3 months.... Then go for 5 mg.... Its the max dosage.... Dont go beyond it..... Sir i am on oral minoxidil 2.5mg and finax 1mg everyday.Hwz this combo to treat early genetic thinning. Some doctors are saying it's not good to take two oral medication like these two for androgenetic alopecia Is this combination harmful or its good?
The combination of fin and min is fine. I'd use 1 mg of fin every other day, and take a 2 week break every three months. This is to minimize the possibility of side effects.
I am on an oral compound of finasteride and minoxidil at a low dose. I have been on it about one month. I am starting to notice a lot of puffiness under my eyes and this is the only thing I have changed, Is this a common side effect?
The puffyness is from the minoxidil, not the fin. You could try a lower dose of min. Women don't need as much as men. You might be able to use as little as 0.25 mg daily.

During hair wash only 2 hair fall out at maximum.. I'm so scared and I feel really depressed after combing. Plz tell me what to do.. I'm also taking iron supplements
I Think he is robbing you by prescribing scalp products. Teologen efflivium Can be treated “only” by one thing, and that is time. However PRP has shown to be effective as treatment in some cases. I notice that your comment is a year Old, therefore, you should have noticed increased hair growth. If you STILL notice hair loss, you need to identify your underlying problem. It could be your Blood or diet or something else. But most people suffer from a “shock phase”, like servere depression or medical recovering.
Yes because minoxidil interferes with collagen synthesis. I think it’s only a concern with minoxidil that’s absorbed systemically (which is 100% of oral minox) whereas topical minox is much less a concern since so little is absorbed systemically. You’re probably not too concerned about “ageing” of skin on scalp from local collagen effects of topical minox.

Doctor can we take both, oral and topical forms of minoxidil?

@@niklasmuller4679 Sure mate.
I’ve heard sheds can happen 1-2 times a year on minoxidil but they get less frequent and intense over time. I guess it’s all part of the process. With that said I added oral to my topical minoxidil routine.

The neurosteroids are produced by the type 1 5-alpha dehydrogenase enzyme in the brain however finasteride only blocks the type 2 enzyme with negligible effect on the type 1 enzyme so you’re good. Hi Dr. Jayaprakash,,
I’m interested in trying topical Minoxidil (not oral) for hair loss, but I have some concerns about potential side effects, especially related to blood pressure and the heart.
Only finasteride can do a great job, if you are in early stages of balding
It is pretty easy to take a finasteride pill and minoxidil pill every day. You could probably take them at the same time. I don't think they have any bad interactions with each other. It might be better because you might have to change your dose of oral minoxidil to make sure you're getting good results while minimizing the the risk of side effects.

Hey there! There's been some talk on the internet that Minoxidil (oral/ topical) causes accelerated skin ageing. Can you confirm or deny? Thanks.
