    I’m a gay man and it really hurts me that there’s people in the world who advocate the death penalty for us homosexuals. We’re humans just like any other straight person. I love my boyfriend more than life itself and we’d do anything for each other. We do our best to counter hatred, homophobia, and we spread love and compassion as much as possible. WBC is pathetic.

    This guy does not know his bible, Jesus came to set people free from sin not to kill people in their sin. God the father loved humanity so much he sent his only son to die that non would perish but have everlasting life. What's the catch, the catch is you have to believe in Jesus, I mean believe as in follow Jesus, not just have knowledge that he existed.

      I like this comment compared to others I've seen. I'd also like to note that Jesus rebuked quite a bit of the Old Testament teachings because they were made for the time they were in, and the time when Jesus was in was not a time for a lot of the Old Testament teachings. I've been reading some of the comments, replies, and conversations on this video and it disappoints me how so many people don't understand this and cause so many contentions. Thanks for having this cool comment.

    @jamesfox4924 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    What's so weird about him, is that part of him is obviously brilliant. He is able to make logical conclusions, but then that brainwashing kicks in and he just looses it. I think his father was probably a very smart man, but psychologically imbalanced. The intelligence and craziness was obviously passed on.

    • @jamesfox4924
      @jamesfox4924 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mister Happy I said part of him was brilliant. The majority was just brainwashed. Brainwashing is pretty powerful, and easily affects smart people. Being brainwashed doesn't mean you're stupid, it means you're brainwashed.

    • @jamesfox4924
      @jamesfox4924 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mister Happy You think that no intelligent people can be brainwashed? What about almost all of the major philosophers of ancient times. These were the brightest men of their age, and almost all of them were religious, often incredibly religious. Also, there are many very intelligent atheists today who were once fanatical believers. What changes people is their experiences. If you live an isolated life with little contact to the world, your intelligence is irrelevant, it's incredibly easy to brainwash someone, especially from a young age. Most people don't just decided to be brainwashed, they are forced into it. If from a young age you are told of hell and how terrible it is, that is a very convincing argument for doing exactly what that person says. When you are younger the part of your brain that controls reasoning is not developed, so no matter your intelligence you can believe the crazy crap. If that belief is not challenged your brain will have no reason to rethink its conclusion.
      Anyway what I really meant by that comment was that Fred Phelps was once a civil rights lawyer, who took on difficult cases at a time when nobody wanted them. He was able to see the injustice in the system, but he couldn't see it in his own belief. You may think that makes him an idiot, but many intelligent people fall into this trap. He did seem to have some kind of psychological issues. This likely manifest in his deep belief, and once he believed it, it was nearly impossible to go back.
      In the end it doesn't matter, because he's dead, and we will likely never know what he really thought.

    • @jamesfox4924
      @jamesfox4924 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mister Happy I really wasn't trying to make excuses for him. I don't know where you got that idea. He just seemed liked a fundamentally flawed, but intellectual person.
      I just don't think you appreciate how difficult it can be for some people to come to terms with the truth. He probably new the truth, but that's not the same as accepting it. Sure, it's irrational, but humans are hardly fundamentally rational beings.
      My original point was simply that I thought it was a shame he went a bit crazy, because he could have been a useful member of society if he hadn't gone a bit mad. Generally I'm a complete cynic, but I try not to write people off completely. He may have become a hateful bastard, but he wasn't always like that. He was once a civil rights lawyer in Kansas (in 1960), which could not have been easy. Somewhere along the line something happened and he became a lunatic. Supposedly at the end of his life he regretted what he done to such an extent he just lost the will to live. If he were a complete idiot he wouldn't have even considered the possibility that he was wrong. In the end he told his family the truth and it cost him his life. That's a tricky thing to come to terms with. Yeah, it was all his fault that he ended up in that situation, but he couldn't change the past.
      I'm no fan of the man, but in the end we're all only human, and humans are stupid creatures who make mistakes.

    • @jamesfox4924
      @jamesfox4924 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mister Happy I don't personally excuse him for what he's done, and I don't think anyone should, but I'll defend just about anyone, because that's my job. It's the habit of a lifetime to try and understand why people think the way they do, and how that affects their actions. I just like to appreciate the full story, and I don't believe the full story in this case is simply because he's an idiot. He was obviously a very insidious person, and even (almost definitely) mentally disturbed, but I'm curious about the why. You obviously don't care why, and that is perfectly fine. It's not your job (or even mine in this situation) to figure out why he turned out the way he did. I'm just curious. I'm also curious why you're so equally determined to conclude that the simple answer is that he was an idiot. He passed the bar (which doesn't require genius, but you can't be a complete idiot), and practiced as lawyer, so that answer doesn't really fit. He did appear to be quite the narcissist too, but again that doesn't really complete the picture.
      In the end it's completely irrelevant, because he is dead, and this isn't my problem. I just think it's interesting to consider what makes people turn out the way he did. You don't have to waste a single second thinking about it. I find it interesting, while you clearly do not.

      He doesn't. His main force is about gays and using that single little quote from that first book of laws written by human beings about "man should not lay with man". which the WBC and everyone takes the wrong way. I understand why that quote was put in there. It talks about two men or two women together can not reproduce a blood line. In order to reproduce it has to be a man & woman together. How hard is that for the WBC and other Christian people to understand that quote?! It's all about reproducing(science) a blood line. The book does not say God hates gays!! it says pretty much says if you want children/ family you have to partner up with the opposite sex and if you don't want children/ family then stay single or partner up with the same sex.

  • @Mr.LaughingDuck
    @Mr.LaughingDuck 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    For all the flak and condemnation the WBC deserves, there's one thing I respect about them: They're not passive aggressive. Instead of being like other Christians, they don't claim that "they hate the sin, not the sinner", or that they will "pray for you". They just hate and are forthcoming about their hateful beliefs.

    I actually grew up in a church like this. The feeling of being apart of a hateful organization like that, does more to a kids mind then you can imagine. I was looking up at people, knowing they would look down on my walk for the smallest stumble... It made me feel insignificant but I was able to get free and reach positivity... If you want to hear my side about what I went through listen to my song "Insomnia" on my channel and Gods sake... STAY POSITIVE 'MERICA!

    I hate how they put their kids right in the middle of their protests. Anyone who knowingly puts their kids in a dangerous situation and fails to adequately protect them should have their kids taken away. Why hasn't the dept of children and families in Topeka stepped in and removed their kids? Are they that scared of the WBC?

    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

    I grew up with religion, but the more I learned and the more I understood the more I became Agnostic and, finally, Atheist. Still, I wonder if these people realize... that if there IS a Biblical God, they are in for one HELL of a surprise come
    the afterparty.
    I mean, if one is Christian one must acknowledge that, despite the Trinity, Jesus Christ is their saviour. This would mean that it is the teachings of Christ which must be followed as Jesus said “The Way to the Father is through me.” He did not say ‘Follow the Scripture to the letter’ nor did he ever make demands that anyone be forced to follow Him. In fact, he warned those who came to Him by saying if they chose to follow Him, He would hold them to the same standards He held Himself. What standards? Well, to answer that we need to do as He did and put aside the Bible and look at the Parables.
    Now, looking at these we instantly see a trend. Love over contempt. Forgiveness over condemnation. Peace over hatred. In
    NONE of the parables does Jesus ever call for the hatred or violence towards anyone. In fact, each is an example of showing kindness and tolerance, forcing oneself to challenge themselves in a moment where they could easily pass judgement or cast prejudice upon another.
    Consider also Matthew 21:12, where Jesus saw the corruption and greed in the Temple. A House of God being used for a brothel of greed and wealth (much like most churches today). What was His reaction? To smile, open his arms wide and say “This is great!” No. He flew into a rage, turning over tables and driving everyone out of the temple. “My house will be called a house of prayer” He said, “but you have made it a den of robbers!”
    With this in mind, any “Neo-Christian” who chooses to ignore the teachings of Christ in favour of simple hatred, violence or bigotry is merely being self-indulgent and violent for violence’s sake. Therefore, if they do honestly believe in a Biblical God and are acting this way because they feel it is His will, they are in for a rude awakening come the hereafter.
    You can follow the Bible or you can follow the teachings of the Christ, but you can’t do both.

    Wait, so your argument against fundamentalists is in Leviticus 18? That verse talks mainly about incest and respecting your families relationships. In essence, not going around having sexual relations with someone who is A) to close to you in the family tree, or B) already married to someone close to you in your family tree.... I don't see how that is wrong? We recognize this even in secular culture today.

    Everyone else was born into the wrong religion (as quoted "99.9%" by Jonathan Phelps), couldn't every religion just state this? So which religion is the "right one," if people are even still asking that question, can never be answered. This type of "reasoning" (which is not reasoning) is baffling and makes it important that there is a separation between church and state.

    I'm just trying to understand why you latch onto only what draws the most attention to your plight. For example, in a few of your videos the statement in regards to picketing certain individuals funerals was that, "they are not important enough." Meaning, if the spot light doesn't shine you don't feel it's worthy? I can understand getting the most bang for the buck but to "save" the ones in need imo wouldn't need a label or rank of public interest.
    I've been to all of the websites.

    The problem is that spiders will not kill each other for these differences, or under the false pretense that one species is more intelligent, stronger, 'better', more morally correct, or more superior than the other. And often times these spiders are not compatible for mating, unlike humans. If interbreeding between tigers and lions causes bastardizations of the species, but a black man and a white woman can create a perfectly healthy and intelligent child, what does that tell you?

    WBC preaches hatred. If you respond with hated then their essential message has found a place in your mind. Rather than meet hate with hatred, use them to self-reflect. Do they evoke anger and hatred? The loving response is to look past the mistake of hatred and attack to the innocence that has been buried. This is called forgiveness, and it is the loving response that frees you from your own hatred and attack.

For me, it's a positive thing b/c I find the Bible complicates things, such is the case of the WestBoro Church. On the other hand, I welcome FAITH for some b/c it gives them purpose. Anything that motivates you without harming another soul, GO FOR IT.

    because they love in a different way. Nowhere in the ten commandments
