      Thank you for tuning in and sharing that perspective, @IronKong-1_2-sb3df! That's an intriguing way to look at it. Instead of always pushing ourselves out, why not broaden the boundaries of what we're comfortable with? How do you personally work on expanding your comfort zone? It's always inspiring to hear different approaches! 🌟🔄

      That definitely is a great perspective. I believe the reason most do not like exploring because they have been conditioned to believe that they are "losing our" or they have to "suffer" to be better. Phrasing the concept this way can potentially allow someone to shift in their thinking. I hope that made sense 💪🏾💜

      My family is Native American, and when service members return home, be it on leave or for good, they go through a series of ceremonies to heal within and without as well as get their headspace cleared up and aligned. The elders conducting these ceremonies talk gently to them, guiding them through meditations and encouraging them to release tensions and negative emotions/thoughts, and you'd be surprised how most Native traditional beliefs are basically stoic in principle. Some of our family have also brought non-Native fellow soldiers with them to get help they aren't getting in their own families or communities. They were welcomed as warriors and treated with honor and respect, and allowed to heal at their own pace. Incidentally, the Reflections of Marcus Aurelius is a favorite of one of those elders conducting the ceremonies, and he is himself a veteran.
      Stoicism used to be taught in military academies and according to my dad (USMC-Korea), was also a principle taught in the military at large as part of training. Personally, I think it needs to be taught to everyone beginning as soon as a child shows the ability to reason, certainly in school, and should continue throughout life. Society would no doubt be the better for it.

      The reason Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan vets have some many problems is because they feel guilty for not being on the right side of the war. They were invaders foot soldiers of the corporate elite and politicians. They flew thousands of miles to slaughter poor people that never did anything to the American people their only crime was snubbing the politicians and standing in the way of the American agenda. I don't think any of you will ever have peace of mind about your actions, and because those actions were ultimately motivated by greed and the lust for power I don't know if you deserve peace of mind. Your conscience is there to remind you not to do evil.

    • @stoicbond
      @stoicbond  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a powerful quote and so true in many ways! 🌟 Gratitude has a transformative effect on our perspective, turning our focus from what we lack to what we possess. In the realm of Stoicism, gratitude is a reminder to appreciate the present moment and the simple blessings we often overlook. Do you have a personal practice or ritual centered around gratitude? How has it impacted your daily life? Thank you for sharing and sparking this discussion!

    • @willk7184
      @willk7184 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@stoicbondWhat surprised me when I started factoring in gratitude to my daily life was even very small things can help lift your mood. Something like a good book or a nice cup of coffee or a kind word from a friend, when acknowledged instead of taken for granted, can really help change your perspective. It's very easy to fall into the trap of focusing on what we're missing in life, either what we've lost or never had in the first place. But the fact is that it is the nature of life to be incomplete. We can never have enough to completely satisfy us - it is a fruitless search for something forever out of reach or fleeting even if we briefly obtain it. If instead we can learn to appreciate the small gifts, the small moments, then we may find that the restless longing for more will be replaced by a simple peace of mind.

      I just want to suggest something to you since you’re starting a new chapter in your life. Aim to grow daily, every day for the rest of your life. I am at the end of my life now and I still choose to grow daily, every day. Focusing on self growth is a far better pursuit then trying to help others grow. Consider that you might be wanting them to grow to make yourself feel better. Leave them to their own life lessons. Focus on your personal journey. I wish you the very best in your new life.

    I find it beautiful how much stoicism and the abrahamic religions harmonize. In my own life, God has given me the desire to be a calm, in control, disciplined person. Then stoicism helped in giving me the tools to get there. Meditation, embracing discomfort, enjoying nature, embracing the inevitable, are all important parts of the Bible but yet modern day Christian’s do not do these things so finding a community of people who do has been very encouraging.

    Thank you for your offerings! Great channel. I just returned to The Stoics teachings this past year. I devoured them in college, but I was just too young and immature to practice with them. I knew in my heart that these GREAT minds would be a guide one day. I would utilize the wisdoms sitting with a therapist and my own writing. The older I get (52) the more I lean into The Stoics... finding a calm balance in this chaotic world. Aurelius and Seneca are a balm that heals. The "work" is pretty simple. What a relief to know that WE have that ultimate choice of our freedoms. Freedom of mind, heart and presence. I wish all that are here deep comfort and Peace! ☮☮☮

Thank you for being a part of this community and for your encouraging words to all. 💕 Out of curiosity, is there a particular Stoic exercise or daily habit that you've found to be most grounding in these chaotic times? Greetings. I had my live as I knew it suddenly ripped away from med in 2008. Two years later after struggling just to hold on what I had left was gone. It hit bottom and had to make a choice, give, die and leave my kids with no parent or break away from my soon to be ex to save us. I started getting help and it was then I discovered Mindfulness and Meditation. It saved me and got me through. I've suffered one loss after another but through understanding I could make things better by shifting my perspective I could come out of it with a little more wisdom. Journaling has always been my go to. Getting the thoughts out of your head and onto paper really helps. If writing isn't your cup of tea then try some other form of art, or singing. I've never stuck to watching/listening to Stoic videos until this one. It resonates an insight to principles we very much need reminding. So many of us walk blindly in life fearing the impending present that we call future. Acceptance of all things in our lives is something I've finally discovered and adopted recently. Took me 40 years to get to this point and I'm grateful that it took me that long.

    When a man (person) acts in concurrence with internalized Stoic principles these happenings become rebranded gifts provided to the deeper self. This truth is refreshing and expansive opening the path toward the freedom of belonging to something greater than ourselves.

    I've tried all the 7 principles and it took me about an hour. I don't have the time to incorporate all of them to my everyday routine but I'll try one for each day of the week

    • @stoicbond
      @stoicbond  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That sounds like a great plan, @pedroc.4868! Incorporating one Stoic principle into your daily routine each day of the week can be a practical way to gradually integrate Stoic wisdom into your life. It's all about finding what works best for you and adapting these practices to your schedule. Which of the seven principles do you plan to start with, and how do you think it will impact your day-to-day life? 😊

    Fantastic video. I love how the arguments are addressed with each meditative perspective. I’ve been journaling every morning for the past 8 months now and this has been a life changer. Synchronicities, and other mysterious and marvellous occurrences have resulted. There’s a magic in this process. I won’t even try to describe it. But every entry naturally ends in gratitude if you write three pages minimum.

      Thank you for sharing your personal experience with morning journaling! It's truly remarkable how such a simple practice can lead to profound realizations and moments of gratitude. 📔✨ Do you have a specific Stoic quote or idea that you often reflect upon during your journaling sessions? It's always enlightening to hear what resonates most with viewers like you! 💭🌅

      @@stoicbond My morning pages are mostly a conscious stream of thought. I try not stopping, or pausing to reflect. I use the pages to purge, and to create a space where there are no rules of engagement except for what I mentioned above. Also, the last rule is no sharing with others what I’ve written. I reflect on Stoic, Daoist, Buddhist, and Sikh teachings throughout my day. Great channel, I subbed yesterday. An excellent service to humanity. Wish you all the success.

    I teach a class and run a dojo based on eastern philosophy and martial art wisdom. This was so inspiring. Sometimes we have all the wisdom but knowing how to make a practical path out of it can be abstract. This was so concrete thanks again for sharing 🙏🏼💙😌
