As someone who is switcihg from photo to mostly video works I decided to add two cine sets next to my good old EF L lenses. While I am not sure about "cleaner look" set (NiSi Athena is my fav for now) on the "character side" the Nightwalker seems to be great value and fun tu use set, whatever camera I choose in the future. Thank you for video, it is great as always and this type of content is really helpful for me!
@ thanks, I figured I was over thinking it lol gonna try & test these out soon and see if I should pull the trigger. You’re one of my go to channels, your footage always looks immaculate
Can you speak about Green Screen shoots with the lenses you have tested? I am hoping to enter indie Green Screen Virtual Production (hopefully projected LED later), and are looking for a couple of budget cine lenses to start with.
The major downside of the Sirui vs Vespids is that you're locked into one mirrorless mount (and super35) and cannot take advantage of any speedbooster or filter adapter. For me the Vespids set is a better long-term investment.
Yes that's true, the Vespids are a lot more expensive though, so if you're on a budget getting the night walkers will get you going sooner / earning money faster too. I still prefer my Vespids but I wanted to show that you can get good results with these lenses
I’m always so jealous of your ability to create such beautiful images man! Would this lens be appropriate to use on the original S5 in apsc mode? I’m looking for a wider angle lens to use with my Helios and thought I should avoid the 20-60mm variable aperture kit lens.
What an amazing review and gorgeous set of lenses. I really love the look these lenses produce but I'm currently only shooting on S Series Lumix Cameras. I know they are available for L mount but I guess my question is would you say it's worth it to invest in such a set if it takes using your full frame cameras in s35 mode? Recently I read about the new firmware update and how using 6K Open Gate with the new stabilization results in a s35 crop, so this is what I'd use I guess... Thank you for the video either way!
Absolutely nothing wrong shooting in S35 mode I do it a lot with a number of lenses, esp. the LUMIX S 18mm! You also get vastly improved sensor read out speeds and reduced rolling shutter! I prefer shooting anamorphic in S35 mode on these LUMIX cams.
I'm not totally sure, but I use S35 lenses on my LUMIX all the time, it has a great crop sensor mode and image looks awesome. Check out my latest vid for some S35 anamorphic lens action on the Full frame sensor crop.

How do these cut with your Vespid primes? I can't tell if your color grade has shifted the colors and contrast, so it's hard to tell if they would cut with the Vespids. I need a light and compact 16mm for my gimbal.
I think I have a comparison with my Vespids in my original nightwalker video. But they match pretty well, not as sharp or clean, more.CA - but the 16mm is much sharper than the other NW so would probably match a little better. Nothing a bit of tweaking in post wont massage.

Now you don’t seem to talk about the promists. Only asking because I’m attempting your Resolve tutorials and thinking I could be doing this in post. You always make everything look amazing.
It feels a bit too sharp, no? I'm more into the "vintage look", and this feels a bit too clinically sharp in comparison to other brands such as SLR Magic and 7Artisan. Is that something you would agree with? I haven't compared them, so it's hard to say.
Yes maybe it's a little too much on the sharp side but you could apply diffusion filters or a bit of blur in post. I think for the price difficult to be too picky with these.
@@EdProsser Yeah absolutely. I have a 1/8 pro mist so that should work. There just are so many brands in this category, and it's hard to pick one. 7Artisan, SLR Magic, this, Meike etc.
Meike are in the same price bracket as the Vespids, I'd go vespid over Meike. Not shot on them, but from what I've seen the 7Artisans have a lot of inconsistencies and lens breathing
I think most of this is using the grain preset within the FilmVision 2 powergrade, it has the saturation pumped up, size fairly high, softness fairly low I think
