A very strange thing happened to me one night on the London Underground. It was many years ago after I had finished a late shift at Guy's Hospital when I was a nurse. It must have been around 11.30pm as I stood on London Bridge northern line to Bank platform. I was a little nervous as I was the only one waiting for the next train. All of a sudden a young child's voice singing London Bridge is Falling Down echoed through the platform. It was so very spooky. I wondered if it was one of the staff who had his or her child with them playing a trick on me. The weird thing was the voice seemed to emanate from the tunnel. If it was a trick the child was very good as it sang continously for about 20 seconds or so. There was no giggles. It was very odd and I've never forgotten it. I was so relieved when the train came.
The London underground is supposed to be incredibly haunted children have died down they too on March the 1943 they was a air raid siren and a deadly crush at the Bethnal Green station I believe 172 people died including 62 children
So spooky! What were the lyrics?? The words have subtly evolved over the years, you might be able to work out when the song words date from!! My daughter learnt different lyrics in nursery school than I learnt in nursery school, and my daughters Nanny Rose, who was born just after the war in the East End, learnt totally different words to both of us! Subtly but very different....
You, sir, are a most perspicacious scholar of creepy, historical Olde London. Thank you for tickling our ghoulish sensibilities, especially at this most auspicious time of year. Cheers from Canada.
I haven’t been in London since 96. First, let me say how much I love London I love love history. The people were absolutely amazing. Absolutely wonderful. It was great to walk around the streets at night of Soho and just have fun. I love you London. And I love your ghosts.
My first trip was in 1993 and I have been back several times since. It has changed and not all for the better. It is dirtier and more dangerous. I certainly wouldn't walk about at night alone as I once did. I still enjoy it, but it isn't what it was and that is a great pity.
@@pattierotondo1108 The murder rate in London in 1993 was 2.3 per 100,000 people in 2021 it was 1.4 per 100,000 people. It is actually less dangerous today.
It gives me joy, that even in this Modern hightech age, we honour the past not only with dry facts, but all so with some good old fashioned ghost stories.
I always wanted to see London. Now ,I am so riddled with RA in my old age, I am thankful for wonderful stories like these. I travel with my eyes, and ears which thankfully still work!! Enjoy these stories so much!! Thank you!!
Nicely done ghost walk. Thanks. The Black Dog of Newgate and the spectre of Amelia Dyer are some of my favourites. There's so many haunted locations in London. Queen's House in Greenwich spooked me since childhood, with that eerie photo of the ghost ascending the Tulip Stairs. 👻
So, so interesting. As for the George and Vulture, In the very early 1970's, my then boss took me there for lunch and for YEARS, every time I was in London I searched for this place, scouring the area to no avail as I didn't know its name. I'm no spring chicken now🤣 but hope to make a visit before I'm kicking up the daisies. Otherwise, I might give it a haunting of my own!
Is this the same Richard Jones narrating that runs The London Ghost Walk...? I've bookmarked your website because I'd love to do a tour when I arrive in London in a couple years. I'm a big fan! This vlog was wonderful and I've saved it in my UK watchlist to watch over and over again, to whet my whistle as to what to expect when I do your tour. Well worth watching!
Indeed it is me! Look forward to welcoming you onto the London Ghost Tour. If you need any suggestions of other things to do in London please feel free to ask.
Great stuff here! To anyone who liked this video, be sure to pick up Richards' book "Haunted London". It has become one of my favorites, lots of great pictures, and I refer to it often.👍
Maybe now that Charles is king he can do something about all the horrid modern buildings that he always hated. He wasn't alone! Maybe he can pave the exteriors with some nice old fashioned bricks and stone columns.
I can only hope, Mr. Jones, that when you added the tolling bell at the end of the segment on Gabriel of St. Andrew by the Wardrobe, that it was merely a common bell sound effect and not a recording of Gabriel itself. Otherwise, I fear you may have cursed many of your subscribers here! Another magnificent journey you have taken us on. Well done, sir.
I think I remembered to use a substitute bell, Rollin, although my memory isn't what it was! Can I offer my sincere apologies for any inconvenience or curses caused if it was, in fact, the real Gabriel!
I love London. English History was my favourite subject in school. My first trip to London was in 2013. Enjoyed Dickens Walk. My hosts, an old school friend and her husband, had strung all historical facts into the one month I was there. History was revealed to me. Too old now to travel otherwise would love to go to London again. I am from Kolkata India
When, or if, you genuinely see a ghost, and you have time to actually say to yourself 'this is an apparition that my eyes are seeing', its really quite envigorating. Its happened to me twice and following both occasions, I felt as though I could have happily climbed a mountain. Extraordinary!
Personally I find the experience is either timed poorly inspiring me to tell them we are not doing this right now but thanks for popping by, or at times it can be quite sleep inducing for me which is greatly appreciated.
I have been living on Bow Lane at calico house for a while and absolutely love this place. You can feel the history!!! I walk by a few of these places near Mansion House and Bank station on a daily basis and find this subject absolutely fascinating. Great video!
I worked on the old theatre block over 50 years ago now . Jasmine often manifested herself ,any time of the day or night. Though it seemed more frequently in the middle of the night. I dont think anybody ever saw or heard Jasmine. Only a distinctly creepy feeling when you smelt her presence.
What a wonderful account! Thank you for your trouble! It’s a pity they silenced the bell Gabriel. Its tolling doesn’t cause death or disaster, it WARNS their coming so it gives the opportunity to get ready for them. It’s quite undignifying to leave it outside at the mercy of the elements and its mouth crammed full of cement and makes people unaware of dangers he’d warn about 😡
Thank you 💕 so much for your excellent storytelling and research . I used to work in the City a long time ago and now I'm over 70 year's old I do wish I could go back to my Salad Days . The pub's in the City all closed at around 7pm and I remember a song vaguely.. about it , is the " Oyster Bar " still there ?
I lived and worked in the Barts/Mansion House area for 20 or so years - although I was glad to leave, this tour sure does fill me with nostalgia. For those less familiar with the area - all of these locations are moments, really, away from one another...very densly packed part of town.

It is not just the ghosts, it is the fact that London has always been such a vast, illimitable and fascinating city, I’ve always loved it, although I don’t live there. Come to think of Railways.
One day, when returning from France, on June the 9th 1865, all of Charles Dickens's Railway Nightmares came true, until he was involved in a terrific train crash accident at Staplehurst in Kent.
The accident took place on a viaduct.
Ten people died in the accident.
The accident would prop Dickens to write his finest Ghost Story called The Signalman.

He sat in reception and told me that when the offices were 100% empty except for him, he watched the lifts going up and down to different floors.

He said no, they were programmed to come down to the ground floor and not move if no one was using them.
So interesting.
Could you cover West London, like Cecil Court and the Watkins Books, where Crowley supposedly left open doors to Hell? Great documentary, thanks!
I always wonder how the City would look had the fire not happened.
People who dont believe in ghosts have just never seen one.
Exactly. Only those who have never had ''an experience'' have the luxury of being sceptics and non-believers...
Or haven't heard a decidedly sound attributed to a ghost.
Nice wholesome
Thank you.
Impressive effort
