wow! "It is the greatest irony of my life that losing my husband helped me find deeper gratitude - gratitude for the kindness of my friends, the love of my family, the laughter of my children. My hope for you is that you can find that gratitude - not just on the good days, like today, but on the hard ones, when you will really need it.... Build resilience in yourselves. When tragedy or disappointment strike, know that you have the ability to get through absolutely anything. I promise you do."
Ms. Sandberg has a purpose beyond mother, executive. I am suffering with the loss of my wife. Her words of wisdom bring me some relief. I am sure she is touching many people thanks to TH-cam.
As someone who is right now sitting in bed, unable to graduate so far because of anxiety, depression, lack of money, family problems, etc. this commencement actually speaks to me on a deeper level.

I really love the part of when her friend told her about the conception of things could've been worse, then she realized that she still have healthy children, family and caring friends. And unlike other single mothers or fathers, she's more than capable of dealing with potential financial problem. Always be grateful, and knowing that you're lucky every single night when you sleep in a cozy bed.

Brilliant message about the importance and value of practicing daily gratitude and cultivating resiliency to prepare for life's inevitable adversities and losses.
More than ever, I realize the importance of seizing every single moment to tell those you love with all of your heart that you do, cherishing time spent, and showing them love everyday......sending all my love to the small group of cherished people in my life xoox
I am an applicant who's just received lots of waitlists and rejections, this was a dramatically inspiring address that make me realize what 's the most important in my life.
it's such an unique and different speech from what i've heard yet, it doesn't only tell you about how to solve problems it also expresses the severity of the problems and gives a frank countenance of how hard things can be. i love her. All the love :)
I've watched this twice now and found it to be very heartfelt and inspirational. Thank you for sharing your lessons learned and I hope that you will find many moments of joy going forward!
I love her! She bled for that audience, and was so open and vulnerable. She has always been who I channel when I’m having a difficult time, especially at work… I ask myself what would Sheryl Sandberg do?😅
Beautiful and inspirational speech from an incredibly strong woman that reminds me how important it is to tell the treasured people in your life how much you love them when you have the opportunity ....and that nothing else in life is more important.... I am trusting this is known...xoox
Great speech! It literally brought me to tears. But I just couldn't stop looking at the guy in the back. There must be lots of emotions going on inside of him as well.
Sherly you are adorable ! Spectacular Speech , I am delighted to know about 3 P' s and certainly going to adopt it. It's true, Gratitude change our Life . Thank you !!
Ma'am you're amazing....and you really inspire....I heard your commencement speech at Howard and Berkeley side by side....they correspond to two entirely different moments of your life...still you inspire the same...your approach towards life may have changed...but you're strong at that time and you'll always remain strong....you're genuinely a very beautiful person
Wow What a strong woman 😭🙏 my son will be graduating this month from Berkeley university he wish his grandfather was there that we lost in January 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏
That is an outstanding and monumental speech. Great advice and preparation for young people except when you're young you don't realize how important these lessons are. Live everyday like a gift, the three P's and kick the shit out of option B! Awesome.
Can't agree more, she only talked about her own story over and over like a little girl. What Steve cared is always about all human race. Not at the same level.
Lynn J Yes I am, maybe you are, too. But the person who speaks in the Berkeley commencement should not be. That is why I tell the difference between between Steve and her.
Be grateful every day. Very good. When one is grateful, it's usually in relation to another person, no? She is grateful to her family and friends and rabbi for their support and love. Who is she grateful to that her husband didn't have a cardiac arrhythmia while driving her kids in the car? Who is she grateful to for each breath she takes each moment of every day? You can't be grateful to chance for all the gifts of this life. That doesn't make sense.
”…And yet, they are so happy because the last Eid, they were under occupation and suffering. And this Eid, they have nothing but they are free.” -Angelina Jolie
1:8-1:10 Could you please tell me, what is meaning of 'with all the hair', 'Man buns'. She said : Back then, people used to say with all the hair, " How do we even tell the men from the women?" Today we know the answer. Man buns. In the dictionary, a bun is kind of hair style, but it doesn't make sense. and 'with all the hair' is that meaning of a lot of hair? I'm studying English from this beautiful and moving commencement speech.
She was attempting to make a joke about how some men with long hair now put their hair up in a little back of head bun which some people think does not look so good. This contrast with males who had long hair in the sixties when other people at that time did not think men should have long hair like females because, as they joked at the time "how can you tell them apart". Thus, five decades later society still opines on appearances. Berkeley has the well-deserved reputation of being open-minded vs. old fashion. I guess I might know, I was there then. I hope this wasn't a confusing explanation for you i.e., "clear as mud". As a side note, it seems during the Free Speech Movement of the sixties the left was protesting because they felt the right was obstructing their 1st Amendment rights. Now the left has flipped it by Antifa preventing the right's right to free speech. How hypocritical, pathetic, ironic, and dangerously sad. The tormented have become the tormentors. And this at Berkeley. Mario Salvio would not approve and is rolling over in his grave. Good luck with your English.
6:45 Everyone who's made it through Cal has already experieced some disappointment. =what is 'cal'?My Rabbi of all people actually told me, and this is a quote, that I should "lean into the suck?"= what is 'lean into the suck'?18:3 Although maybe before you go to kip's and don't remember what they ar.=what is kip's? Please let me know what that mean.
I haven't "studied" Ms. Sandberg but I think it means take on challenges and overcome any adversity in life. Kip's is a popular restaurant for celebration, I believe. I liked Larry Blake's and Top Dog back in the day.
Missed my own graduation at Cal due to my father's death, but will take this commencement speech as a message meant for me 40 years ago.
love you bro.
You OG bro
It's so grateful that I learned English and could understand this wonderful speech with my own heart.
wow!

Cheer up! Do not lose your passion. One nice blessing from Germany
wang wang You never ever tell a person suffering from depression to 'cheer up'. It shows you never knew or never went through it yourself.
it's 2021, and I am watching this video again and crying.
She breaks down and gets back, and again breaks down, and gets back stronger. those little courages that you have to call PRICELESS.
That's beautiful !❤
Honestly, I love her speech. It was heartfelt.
我也是
她为弗拉基米尔·普京和习近平联盟做了很多。 她是一位革命英雄!
Well Said! ... I lost my daughter who was 13 in 2014 and I too use to celebrate sometimes now I celebrate always and I make sure every day has value.
Every time I feel down, I come across such emotionally strong people & get a breath. Nothing to complain, I'm complete.

I need to hear this at least twice. Really inspirational.
More than ever, I realize the importance of seizing every single moment to tell those you love with all of your heart that you do, cherishing time spent, and showing them love everyday......sending all my love to the small group of cherished people in my life xoox
