Dang... no way to change the colour of the level, or make the background anything other than a boring flat plane? I always hate when games have stuff in the pre-made levels that can't be done in the level editor. Oh well...
It can all be done in the editor, well except the colour hue which required you to go into the chive and set the hue variables...
@@griffpatch Thanks for your reply... I am a bit confused though. By "background" I was referring to the grey silhouette hills that appear behind the levels in the story mode, which are replaced with a grey flat plane in levels that are created in the level editor. I didn't see a way to change those in this video. Also, if I change the hue of the level, will that change be encoded in the shareable level code, or do all loaded levels just have the default green hue?
@@Murnjendoof_too Just press G to toggle the ground type at the mouse cursor :D - and yes, once you set the HUE, and HUE2 (see them on the far right of the first sprite) they will be encoded with the level permanently until changes here again.
@@griffpatch Great, thank you so much!
yeah🔴
This man literally just mentioned checkpoints and then said,
"I won't need them"
I am at a loss of words for this man's statements
Really happy to see it finally out on Scratch! I had a great time beta-testing it more than a month prior to its release and can tell that work effort paid off with insane quality!
onnnn
Most TH-camrs these days create over edited short videos. Griffpatch, on the other hand, creates videos over 20 minutes with moderate editing. Imagine an adult spending most of his time creating and editing videos for a programming language originally meant for kids! Hats off to you, griffpatch! 😀
I make shorter videos with low editing.
Imagine griffpatch making a 30 minute video on Appel, the greatest creature on Scratch
But he has!
@@bowlingalleypizza it's a joke dude

Exactly Dude.

can i just say, the way the tiles all connect with the black outline is just so polished
Recap: (x is in frames if it's an amount of time)

ax: Max acceleration
yx: Y vel for springs
Wow, this is the guy who made Minecraft on Scratch, sir you made my childhood. Thank You!
Wow. 1,551,477 messages... You totally deserve it though! No one can program better than you on Scratch!
Yup
I’ve been waiting for this!
MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Project number 60917032. Thats how long this guy took to make this game. Honestly, there wouldnt be a Scratch without this legend
Yeah... I could never make this even if I had the patience and time. I have a lot of respect for this guy who somehow just makes masterpieces out of blocks, numbers, letters, and a community.
Griffpatch himself is just 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Appel, it's been so long!
Oh look it’s crystalkeeper7
Hi CrystalKepper7!
Hi there
@suhalo_351 hey its -lnfinityCoder- on scratch
oh crystal is here
This is one of the most awesome games on scratch. Amazing work!
yeh, because #griffpatch join 9 years ago and 1 month so he can practice, learn and cultivate.
Yeah this looks like smthn you'd find on steam
I would NOT believe this wad made in scratch if i didn't have access to the project lol
@@qwertyuiop.lkjhgfdsa Do you need the appel game
Amazing game! It feels really complete. I really like how you combine great gameplay with amazing graphics and UI (to the point that you make a really user-friendly level editor). I know this sounds weird, but one of my favourite things about this game are the black borders, and the method of creating them. xD
I have one suggestion: Maybe you could add a tag for the flag for it to be optional if the screen can scroll further to the right? I can imagine some people wanting to put their finish in the middle of the map, only accessible with a key, or to make some kind of a maze that ends in the middle.
@Lucas Valentine exactly
I love the game it's the best scratch game i've ever seen
same from me!
who would dislike a tutorial video, just cause it takes long to understand does not mean you should dislike it
trolls and bots
Imagine how much work he put in this. ITS A MASSIVE WORK.
I'm only just seeing this a year later but I'm amazed! You've made the scratch version of Super Mario Maker all for free in a few months!
Griffpatch you are SO underrated.
He has 212086 followers on scratch, and he is the most popular user
To be honest i didn't even know that it is possible to make custom levels in scratch.
You really impress me.
It wasn't until griffpatch designed it :)
Griffpatch, I finally beat all the levels of Appel!
Insane game. So much fun! I really like your stuff on scratch!

I love the death animation when I was playing it! Nice music too!
How does Appel break into pieces like that? I guess he used clones

Your games are next level mate!
you really bring the game to a new level!!! Genius !!! my family is having so much fun with it!!!
another surprise I saw in your coding is the debug module.... fantastic!!!
in your Levels, Add blank custom block, supposed you waned to call setup width height instead of width width?
I’m impressed how he made a level designer
I love your new game Appel
this game should be on the "appel" store!
Haha!
Nice Pun
appel is really fun
I made a level. I'll have to put it on the forum!
Greeaaat this is sooo good helped me lots
Yay! Appel is finnaly here
This is underrated.
31:00 it would be cool if the trampoline simulated how far it would spring Appel based on the x and y values inputted. This would be useful as we wouldn't have to keep doing trail and error to get the spring distance we want.
Let's say y=30 and deceleration=-2 (change y speed by -2): I made a program that would calculate the max height, and it returned a value of 240 units up (max of 3 tiles up based on your 62x62 tiles).
30+28+26+24+22+...+4+2 = 240, floor(240/62) = 3.
Yeah. It takes a lot of trial and error
Awesome!. I will play this later and make a level! :D
awesome!! Can't wait to head on back to scratch to speedrun again.
woah. amazing! this is honestly a beautiful game!
Griffpatch this is awesome!
No question the best platformer I’ve ever seen on scratch. I am wondering though how are the black outlines made so they morph to the shape of the level?
I think the outlines for each tile are separate from the tile itself and are behind the real tiles.
Griffpatch uploaded a tutorial
With pen
@@Arnikaaa yes, I’ve seen it. I figured it was something of the likes, though looking back at this now and I am more in awe as to how much of a pain making these kinds of “grouped” objects would be.
In a future games add zoom out and camera movements for cutscenes, it would be good for a dungeon crawler RPG
thank you very much grifflatch for your help!!!!!!
This is super cool! I hope one day you make a game like Castlevania!
in the next update you should add the ability to get colored tiles in the level editor!
Maybe like pressing arrow keys to change the tiles' color🙂
YAY!! new vid love you griff
oh wow it's Griffpatch!
Im rectreating appel as "Appel v1.4.1" BTW what font do you use?
I love your paper Minecraft griffpath

Go fast or go home
Amazing platformer and coding techniques! I'm learning a lot about inner workings of scratch from you! You probably won't read this because there are so many comments but hopefully you or someone that knows scratch really well can help answer. I assume these are best practices learned from programming over the years. Why do you use 0.03 seconds in the wait command instead of other values? Also in the Player sprite's position now block, you used the "and" operator with a blank with key space pressed. I can't tell if it's a bug or special programming technique. Will watch the videos all again to see if I pick up additional nugget of wisdom.
I don’t know for the and
I think he uses 0.03 secs of delay, because Scratch runs on 30 F/sec (frames per second) and 0.03 sec is 1 frame
Geometry Dash wants to:
Know your location
Jokes aside, this is absolutely epic
If u saw the comment on your game from rnrhps2 that was me
GREEEEEEAAAAAAAAATTTTT Game
Hi griffpatch, i like coding, And i want to be a JavaScript coder when i grow up.
Can't wait to get into it and make some stuff!
So excited to play it
man your the best . how much time did it took you to make this? f i start making this ,it will take me almost a 100 years
you should add a community levels list, where people can upload their own levels and publish it for everyone else to see
(with cloud variables)
Wow, awesome 👍
I am your favorite fan
Ive been wanting for this, I recreated it to. :D
Can you add the possibility of assigning a group to crosses so that they only block certain objects?
I love the way u made Minecraft in scratch
LOVE IT!!!!
I wanna b like u wen i grow up griffpatch!!!❤️❤️
i love your games sooooo much!
I love appel it's so fun
@griffpatch This is a really cool game. Just a question: how big do you think the grid layout should be maximum? (In # of tiles × # of tiles). I’m looking for a good balance in size, and this is assuming I reuse clones that are offscreen. I have several ideas for tiles myself, from the generic tiles to special tiles like Colored Portals.
ah yes... i feel a new mario maker right there :')
I like this game i will play thanks griffpatch
This is literally the best thing
This game are incredible!
@pushpraj nigwal what?
At this point, I wouldn't even be surprised if griffpatch made an among us game

@@ccorux4043 at this point i wouldnt even be surprised if griffpatch remade the entire laws of physics and mathematics in the entire universe

This is like a legit game
I have a question is there any way to get the spiky moving platform? i saw that in one of the levels but not in the editor.
griffpatch can you post a video that can make appel?

An amazing video Griffpatch! But would you mind if you can also explain your raytracer a little bit more since I find it very interesting, and how you managed to make a 2d coding platform have a 3d-like raytracer? Thanks!
What a big comment! And i like griffpatch i wish he was my brother!

You sound so calm and tired while recording the level editing
Lol - I've been working hard on making my tutorials and recordings sound better :)
@@griffpatch well you’ve accomplished that. So now you don’t need to sound so tired while recording!
I see you have FL studio, did you make all the music for Appel yourself?
He didn't.
