Watching Mother on Father's Day!
You're a mad man!
r/madlads
Me too!!!
First, Dave's speech was excellent (I wish they'd put it in the title), and should be listened by all people (his speech is at 1:49:30 ). I really hope we can take the stigma away from mental illness; not enough people take it seriously, probably because it's not visible to them (unlike physical disabilities/injuries/etc.), only the actions are, which they blame on the people with mental illness'. I've dealt with major depressive disorder all my life, but never Bipolar Disorder. I've met people with bipolar disorder in mental hospitals I've stayed in, and it's serious business. 20% of people with bipolar disorder commit suicide. The thing is, it can be preventable for many of those people, they just need to seek help. I really hope society changes the way they look at mental illness it would save so many lives, and treatment should be available to all people, no matter their economic standing.
Second, I just got the NES version of "Earthbound" (It says, simply, Earthbound as the title when you start it)/Mother/Earthbound Zero/Earthbound Beginnings, I'm going to play it right after I finish Earthbound on the SNES. I just finished the 7th sanctuary, so I imagine I'm close to the end.
Although the depth of information on the game was was slightly lacking, the sheer execution made up for it. Seriously, this game is the hardest in the Mother series and seeing it beaten in a whopping 1 hour and a half is more than a stretch considering casual players find themselves struggling in every new area they go to.
Great run, dude :)
Very impressive run. Can't believe the memory this guy has with the manip. My favourite game I just love the music and the showdown against the final boss
ninten and lloyd's corpse embark on a quest for the ages
Been playing this game for a bit, just got to Snowman. Just found out that I can run because of this video. Goddamit.
I hope ur run went well !
if it makes you feel any better, you couldn't run in the japanese version and i think running makes encounters go up because it's actually a double speed button, though both of those were changed on the gba version
The surprisingly fast journey of Veni and EGGS.
So, I finally started this game tonight for the first time in my life. I've already been killed by a hippie and finally an hour and a half into grinding, I may consider leaving the first town's city limits to explore a random path. The insanity of Mother 1 is unreal 😵💫
And why did some man give me a depressed bird?!
playing this casually was a pain in the ass but it was pretty rewarding
Mt. Itoi is just unfair in the Famicom version. You need to lean pretty damn hard on PK Fire Omega to get anywhere.
Run starts at 2:50
Watching this on mother's day ftw
so he just... never recruites Ana?
huh.
Ana isn't very strong at all and I imagine scrolling to use her PSI moves would take a decent bit of time out of a run so I imagine that's why he does that, either that or reviving her when she dies so she can level up and be useful would take too much time
@@theleonpasta7336 I mean, makes sense but...
Just feels kinda weird ig
@@TheRedCap I won't disagree with you on that 😆, i do wish he had used Ana even if she isn't very useful
I forgot about this until partway through, glad to see the VOD. Fun run.
Shoutouts to lucahjin for ana's name
teapartycthulu just started watching it and wasn’t expecting to hear Smefanye. Through me off guard lmbo
oh shig really? could've sworn i heard that name before but i forgot where lol
What version of this game were they even playing?
The sprites seem to be based on the original NES version, but it has an English translation, but it keeps the town names untranslated (Mother's Day instead of Podunk) and it has some of the modifications of the Earthbound Zero prototype, like the ability to run, and the wavy effects when you pick up a melody, but not some of the changes that one had.
I was under the impression that the Wii U release was more or less entirely the same as the Earthbound Zero prototype with the changed sprites and that the GBA Mother 1 + 2 version had the same censored sprites?
Oh this is the GBA mother 1+2 port.
At around 10 minutes ito the run he says that its a fan translation of the GBA version.
This run was very Ninten-se
Elephants are always flush with cash. I learn something new everytime I play through a Mother game.
One of my favorite moments in one of my earthbound plays was when the kraken was so easy, Paula and Poo just kept solidifying him with pk freeze he couldn't do anything, it was amazing.
so glad this got uploaded. sad I missed it live
Would it be a faster safe grind to take Pippi up to the exterior of the Zoo? That's what I've always done on my casual playthroughs to make the grind easier.
Seems like it would be faster but you will be splitting your EXP points with her every battle and while she may be stronger than ninten within a few levels she is a temporary party member. It is faster to go solo for the only reason that ninten recieves 100% of experience
Run Start: 2:51
The original version of the breadcrumbs glitch was patched out, however there is still a way..
Great run! Love the enthusiasm and commentary throughout.
At the zoo, is there a difference if you check the pill when it's red or when it's blue?
No difference
I enjoyed the run
Wait why is the sound so off? Is the GBA version inaccurate? I played the NSO version and it sounds very different
The GBA version does sound different.
@@blackvoid1680 yea I have since figured out the whole GBA port "discourse". I stumbled across this video right after finishing the NES version and was incredibly confused
The dude bought boomerang when he already had one 🤷
Peppermint pattie's 'side chick' was named Marcie
did the runner change his twitch name? his stream under the skateman22 name no longer exists
what version of the game is this? the audio sounds a bit odd
The mother 1+2 gameboy port with english patch
The GBA version, I wonder why?
I guess we're all here for this moment, 1:31:55, right?
yep
There's like no reason to play this game on the NES version because you can't run, the controls are really unresponsive, and you can't move diagonally. Whenever there is a remake of an NES game, it makes it so there is basically no reason to play the original version since NES games almost always are slow as fuck in some aspect.
idk abt the controls but literally both of the other two points are wrong. earthbound beginnings (the english version specifically) has running, and every version has diagonal movement
@@joeganbogan270 Well I am talking about the Famicom version. I'm pretty sure the English version that was released on the wiiu console is based on the gba release (or perhaps they updated it in some other way) of "mother 1+2" except it's, you know, in English. I just checked to make sure, and I was wrong about there being no diagonal movement in the famicom version, but there still is no running and the controls feel very laggy in comparison to the gba version. Afaik, the only way you could play the original version in English is through a fan translation (which most likely exists). I think you may be talking about a different version than I was.
@@RpgtheMute Wii U version is the English NES Prototype version, which added a run button, map button, censored sprites, simplified area maps, and an extended ending. It was an official Nintendo translation, not a fan translation. It was never officially released until the Wii U VC version, however. Mother 1+2 for GBA is based off of the English NES Prototype, with the removal of grid-based movement. This includes the censored sprites; the runner is using Tomato's Mother 1+2 translation patch, which reverses the censorship.
I played through the EBZ hack that came out in like 2004, and I enjoyed the _hell_ out of it.
FF1... Slowest battles in the world
I kinda want to play this game but it seems way to criptic and easy to get lost in. The next two games are way better.
It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. It's more or less a Dragon Quest clone with all the grinding that implies. And it IS a surprisingly open game, left for you to explore and such, so if you prefer the more linear style, yeah, the latter two games are much better about that.
hope the runner is continuing practice :). I'm sure he could make a better pb by 25 min or more by avoiding more saving and safety play . sooner or later gotta take off the training wheels xD
I mean that's a marathon thing. You don't go all out and try to PB during a charity event. That's just asking for trouble.
