This is the kind of marathon I've been looking for! For the whole run there was no downtime in positive energy, laughs or memes. Amazing and fun runner Keizaron, couch and audience, and the vibe was so cozy and relaxed, because nobody was on their toes what could be said and talked about (in contrast to that one unnamed big charity marathon). But in my opinion, biggest shoutout goes to the staff of RPG Limit break, because of the nickname incentive shenanagans, adding the co-op to the run description and in the end adding minutes to the estimate one by one. I'll be absolutely waiting for the next year and I hope to catch it live next time. Keep up the amazing work, this is a prime example of what speedrunning marathon should be about!

The marathon staff of both actively work with the other. They have very similar rules for commentary, and Ive run at both. The thing with RPGs is they're just longer. At GDQ a 25 minute game comes and goes really fast so there's not much to it, at RPGLB you have like 4 hour games, you dont have as much to explain so commentary ends up being a lot more chill and have more room to talk about stuff irrelevant to the run. It helps that Keiz is generally very good at entertaining a crowd. it's why people like the FF7 run at SGDQ. It's also a much smaller room, so it presents a bit more of a homey feel. Just my two cents personally.
@@GhostKumo IDK, I just can't see a modern GDQ meming about anime during a KH1 3 hour marathon. I especially wouldn't expect something like "Oh you're canadian" to not get eyes on them. But I guess that's just my vibe. Maybe the homey feel contributes to this and it helps that I don't have as much exposure to this speedrun marathon. and I may as well say it now since it's the elephant in the room: Bonesaw was good at entertaining a crowd too. during the graveyard shift, at that.

That's really funny about Kenya, when I started running this game casually I used Werster's old records as my guides but I'd differ at times and for Rival 3 I accidentally deleted a move I needed to follow Werster's guide. I kept dying on it because of Curse so that's how I started doing it too putting Spearow in front. I don't think you can do it for World Record but that battle is so much easier if you get Surf and fight the Kimono Girls first.

it's "10 year old", not "10 years old". you would say "that person is 10 years old" or "I am 10 years old" but if you refer you someone or something by their age, it's year, as in "this is a 10 year old whiskey" or "get the 10 year old out of here". cheers
Keizaron is correct, Rage does apply its damage boost differently than FC or Rollout. whats actually actually happening every time "rage is building" is an application of a hidden stage of attack boost. two "building rage" incidents is equivalent to a swords dance, for example.
A 120bp attack at 6+ (x4 base attack) will hit with the same strength as a turn 5 Rollout, (480bp) which shows that roughly, in most situations, (all situations that I'm aware of) multiplying either the attack or the move bp by the same number will result in the same net increase in damage. But attack stages and Rollout have different rates at which they reach their power ceilings, +'s increasing 50% total attack every stage and Rollout increasing base power by twice again its previous bp every turn. Due to this, a theoretical 120bp Rage starts with higher damage than a first turn Rollout, but takes 2 turns longer to reach its maximum damage potential. Sadly, there is no 120bp rage. It sits at a measly 20. Less frames to load the name, not to mention saving the time taken to type out a specific name. But these are sacrifices made for the sake of donation incentives. (Also short names, at least in gen 1, can let you skip certain jingles when collecting items.)

I mean, I do like both at the end of the day. It's just that I have more experience with one and I've been trying to figure out that "spark" I feel it lost over the years. Runs like this remind me of that "spark".
I don't know perfectly, but if it works anything close to similar to HeartGold/SoulSilver they would do a bit of manipulation to spawn the entei somewhere favorable, then move to it in a certain fashion. They use pokemon march on the radio to increase the encounter rate, and repel so that only entei shows up for an encounter. Like we saw in this run, rng manipulation allows them to get the masterball using Kenya's (Spearow) Trainer ID at the goldenrod lottery, guaranteeing them a capture when they encounter entei.

I think Dark in gen 2 is calculated as special, and they learned very early on that the totodile /croconaw's special dv was garbage compared to the attack stat. In addition, espeon has a bit better special defense than physical defense, to my knowledge. Headbutt, despite the power being 120/70, probably calculates better. We got to see just how bad bite was just after that against the vaporeon, headbutt did about 37-40%, and bite did about 18% per attack, 35% with the crit, since we saw 2 bites, even with a crit, didn't kill. Even after all of this, there's one more factor we haven't calculated, which aids headbutt. Badge Boosts in generation 2 give the relative type a 20% boost to power. So headbutt, at that point in time, due to Whitney's PlainBadge, actually has a power of 84, and not 70. This also translates later to strength and return, turning strength from 80 to 96 power and return from 102 to 124 power. All of these factors translate to headbutt just having been overall better output.
So about 7 years ago in my SS game, I named my Spearow, "Kenya". I now come to this video and have witnessed the most coincidental thing in my life. Keizaron. Are you and your people spying on me?

Bite is Super Effective base 60, Headbutt is just 70 flat.
I think Dark in gen 2 is calculated as special, and they learned very early on that the totodile /croconaw's special dv was garbage compared to the attack stat. In addition, espeon has a bit better special defense than physical defense, to my knowledge. Headbutt, despite the power being 120/70, probably calculates better. We got to see just how bad bite was just after that against the vaporeon, headbutt did about 37-40%, and bite did about 18% per attack, 35% with the crit, since we saw 2 bites, even with a crit, didn't kill. Even after all of this, there's one more factor we haven't calculated, which aids headbutt. Badge Boosts in generation 2 give the relative type a 20% boost to power. So headbutt, at that point in time, due to Whitney's PlainBadge, actually has a power of 84, and not 70. This also translates later to strength and return, turning strength from 80 to 96 power and return from 102 to 124 power. All of these factors translate to headbutt just having been overall better output.
