PICC line: Peripheral (arm or leg) Inserted Central Catheter. I place them for a living (vascular access board certified nurse). The nurse accesses one of the large veins in the upper arm utilizing a ultrasound machine. A catheter is inserted into the vein and is usually 35-50ish centimeters long. It ends in the superior vena cava (right above the heart) at the cavoatrial junction. A normal IV will last 3-5 days. A PICC line can remain in place >1 year as long as it’s cared for appropriately. Carlos’ story is super common. The docs used the fluid they aspirated and sent it to the lab and waited for it to “grow”. It sounds like a form streptococcus “strep” grew. My guess is a group of infectious disease doctors were consulted and recommend long term antibiotics (usually 4-6 weeks) to treat the infection aggressively. I hope he’s back on the board soon👍🏻👊🏻
Carlos is my fave modern skater get well soon Carlos. The indy truck advert the last switch crook with the music and stance is so street tech. Sometimes i forget what way Carlos skates and have to google him to see if regular or goofy the complexity and trick selection is out of this world.
I had a similar infection happen to me but in my knee last year, similar situation never been admitted, never had IV, was in the hospital 5 days had a pickline in my arm when I got out and a pump in my knee to drain the infection, was pretty scary not gonna lie but I came out stronger than ever
I bet they didnt bump up Luan automatically and instead let him battle the Legion of Doom because the berrics need those views man. If it were a lesser known skater then yeah, but because its Luan they know that they can get views off him.
If you ask me, you can have Carlos on the podcast every week. He's so chill and sympathetic.
