Phil grew of to be a Used Car Salesman at Mid-Nite Motors. Over time he was also arrested several times for loitering and solicitation at Public Men’s Rooms.

I used to hate when my mom would pack an egg salad sandwich in my lunch(because we were broke). I mean, I enjoyed the sandwich, but by lunchtime the entire classroom smelled like a rotten sulphur arse, and everyone was looking for the egg salad culprit.

Be careful what you wish for, with modern school programs you’re likely to get a video explaining how Mr Bungle was caused by systemic white supremacy, so only a bigot would hold someone’s to account for it, with Phil being the perfect example of children reinforcing the white supremacy of the school. Remember: members of BLM already claim that finishing your work or being on time is a racist feature of white people, so there’s no reason to think their anti-black bigotry (ex: claiming that black people are unable to be on time) would be any different as applied here.

Or y’all could be better parents/grandparents and do your damn job to teach your kids manners at home because it’s literally your job as a parent. It’s weird to see the parents of the younger generation of parents, bitch about that current generation of parents not teaching their kids specific skills, etc when you were literally the parent group that didn’t teach your kids to be better parents yourselves!

…the late 50’s and early 60’s was when I, too, was Phil’s age from the film…
…though I lived just 2 blocks away from my elementary school; and could walk home for lunch…all of the noted rules of behavior and etiquette were strictly observed at our nightly family sit-down dinner…which was especially valued by my attorney Father, Cliff…
…not only were we expected to take care of the side dishes for my Mom, Lois…but clean-up after the meal was strictly mine and my sister, Sue’s responsibility…no shirking allowed …ever…
…Dad always stressed table manners…no elbows nor resting of forearms on the dining table; and we learned the proper way to pass food…
…I well remember a withering stare from Dad, as I absent-mindedly played with the salt & pepper shakers…never did THAT, again…
…one summer evening, one of my Dad’sCheyenne then law firm partners, Max Osborne and his wife Francine were our guests for dinner…the three Osborne kids were rather high-energy and rambunctious…Francine commented to my Mom…”…Lois, what medication did you give Sue and Greg?..they were so perfectly behaved at the dinner table!!”…
…my Mom, I’m sure, was silently quite proud of us; considering that she grew up in Winnetka, a well-to-do north Shore Chicago village…to a refined family…
…we kids were given firm but fair instructions by Mom and Dad; and we never…ever…wished to disappoint them…
…alas, it was a distinctly different time..but I remain so very grateful for everything that our parents provided us; including excellent table manners…

In my family by the time you were in school you were expected not to pick up bacon but to eat it with a fork. Company dinners meant that I was expected to stand quietly behind my chair until a gentleman seated me.
One of my degrees is in Child Development, and children whose parents set boundaries for their children are better adjusted than those who do not. I'm certainly glad that my parents instilled good manners in me.

The sad part is that the parents now don't have the manner to show their kids. Kids need to be "free to express themselves" instead of regarding others.

    • @danieljohnston2379
      @danieljohnston2379 ปีที่แล้ว

Shut up boomer. No where in this video is it suggested the children are not allowed to express themselves.
It is made quite clear that as long as the children use basic manners, they are free to enjoy talking, laughing, enjoying their lunch break.
Its not fair to assume to advances in one area of childhood development comes at the expense of another.
I believe that these manners shown in the video are still perfect to teach to children even today in 2023.
That doesn't mean that every element of 1959 schooling was just hunky dorey.
We didnt see a single male teacher in the video. We didn't see a single person of colour in the video.
There was no reference to the idea that a child's home life correlates directly to their scholastic performance.
Sure, for the kids in the video, wearing fine clothing and being well groomed, have clearly been raised well and provided for.
What about the literal MILLIONS of children who wore homemade clothes and got beaten every night?
