In my family by the time you were in school you were expected not to pick up bacon but to eat it with a fork. Company dinners meant that I was expected to stand quietly behind my chair until a gentleman seated me. One of my degrees is in Child Development, and children whose parents set boundaries for their children are better adjusted than those who do not. I'm certainly glad that my parents instilled good manners in me.
Great to see school children looking and behaving like they should. The boys are neat and tidy and the girls are wearing dresses. Not a single F.U. t-shirt or blue hair in the bunch.
The sad part is that the parents now don't have the manner to show their kids. Kids need to be "free to express themselves" instead of regarding others.

I was born in 1952 and must be about the same age as Phil. I had two brothers and my father had electric clippers to give us haircuts. He must have taken almost fifteen minutes a week to barber all three of us! I had close hair on the sides but insisted on keeping it long in front. It was nearly long enough to reach eyebrows! I would spend ever so much time with comb and Brylcreem to achieve the perfect forehead wave.
