Arecibo in Puerto Rico was an incredible site to see. The day those cables broke, was extremely sad. If you ever go to Puerto Rico, you can still visit the site. They had quite a bit to look at and watch the last time I was there. Pictures of it, don't do it justice or give you a real sense of how big it was. You can see a very cool video from James Bond 007 Golden Eye. They did a fight scene on the cat walks above it, where the transmitting equipment hung above the dish. That fell, and destroyed the dish and the equipment that was all custom built that was suspended above the dish. There is video's of it falling if you are curious after watching this!
Have you ever seen the "Arecibo message sent, and answered "? its fascinating if you havent seen it. If you look up "The why files CIA and crop circles" the episode with the message we sent,.and the crop circle answering it. Very interesting
The thing they always miss in the question of life elsewhere is timing. Considering the age of the universe, we are searching for life that exists at a specific time - I e. right now. Life exists for a blink of a cosmic eye and it has come and gone countless times. This makes it even less likely to find. Even if life does exist now, it would need to be technologically advanced. Again, the odds.

2:34 the theory is that intelligent civilizations in the universe would use natural radio frequencies as a means of communicating with one and other. By listening to signals from interstellar space, intelligent codes could be distinguished from the natural patterns of natural radio waves.

And after that, 60 years ago and didn't find life beyond the Earth 🌍 maybe the life isn't pretty common in the Universe perhaps we are very special after all...
I'm so glad that in recent decades we've stopped wasting resources on reaching further out into the universe and redirected efforts to deploying hi-speed internet satellites for distributing cat videos and porn.
Green Bank, Virginia - is that the area where there is no TVs, radios nor mobile phones are allowed because it causes interference on that radio space dish?
Its amazing how much we have learned about the universe since the 60s, and that a Voyager is about to hit interstellar space. That gold record might be found.
Frank White wrote in his book "The SETI Factor" that even if there is only one advanced intelligent civilization for each galaxy, that means there could be at least 100 billion intelligent worlds equal to or more advanced than Earth.
And we are still stuck on radio signals that are not coming because we fail to push our methods and tech to look for alternative communication methods.
The loud fart i caused to happen during the winter of 1982 still reverberates round the universe to this day and is due to return to Earth sometime during the 43rd Century...
Woah, Carl Sagan was wrong about the way a planet's gravity affects its host star. Maybe I'm wrong, but the reality is the bodies orbit a common center of gravity between them, and extend away from that center. They act like they're tied together.
There is an interesting backstory on that one. The "discovery" wasn't discredited until the mid-1970s. In 1966 this was still believed to be valid. But the concept used by the discovery was absolutely correct, and it is one of the techniques used to detect exoplanets to this very day.
***we have 🚫 not finished studying our planet and life completely before moving on..... Humans still doing things, just "to see what happens.". ***When we can leave our planet with full knowledge and full love.... Then we should look .....NOT now.
Like most speculative science before and since, this film skates over the gigantic step between a few common molecules and the incredibly complicated structure of a protein. Then an equally massive leap to a living cell. We still don't know how life formed on Earth, and without that, theories about life elsewhere are pretty lame.
Yeah, Correct, We Humans and all animals, plants, are so easy to create, yeah there must be billions of creatures all over the universe, it's so f____ ng easy !
1966? Real models and motion control cameras probably. Tron was 1982 and was commercial Hollywood CGI so maybe 1966 but the physical model makers were pretty good back in those days. That Enterprise-D they made circa 1989 still looks pretty good in 2023.

Billions and billions. Really enjoyed the “cosmos” series as a kid. Young Frank Drake too, only a few years removed from writing his famous equation.
Originally telecast on ABC on October 21, 1966.

This film is just as fundamental now in understanding what exists beyond Earth as it was nearly 60 years ago.
