Listen to this message straight from the heart of Braddah IZ. On the biggest evening for Hawaiian music, the Makaha Sons decides to join Braddah Iz on stage and ho'oponopono all that had happened in their past. As I watched this broadcasted on KFVE I remember being overwhelmed with emotions. It was basically both sides saying sorry through their actions and voices. On June 26, 1997 Israel Kamakawiwo'ole died.

Leah Elam I think people were crying for various reasons; knowing that he was almost on his death bed might be one, but mending the rift between him and his brothers was probably a big part of it! In addition, there are probably very few people in the audience that could actually understand the Hawaiian language...and some of his comments were in that language (as well as some "pidgin" expressions!). I've always loved and respected Iz and his music, and he died much too soon, at the age of 38 years old!
I spent 5 years in Hawaii, but he was just a baby when I arrived, but learned to appreciate his talents many years later!
The Hawaii state flag flew at half-staff on July 10, 1997, the day of Kamakawiwoʻole's funeral. His koa wood coffin lay in state at the state capitol building in Honolulu. He was the third person in Hawaiian history to be awarded this honor, and the only one who was not a government official. Hopefully, that will help you understand why some folks were crying!
His singing gives a feeling of peace. I just recently heard his music and now I am hooked for good. Such a beautiful man, so sad he left us so early. He will never be forgotten. xxx

our first trip to Hawaii my wife and I went to a book store and just by chance we listen to a cd by IZ.. this was in 2006 and we rode the bus back to our hotel and we asked the driver if he ever heard of IZ and he said Iz is the God of Hawaiian music

I was lucky enough to have grown up listening to his music back when him, Skippy, Moon, John, and Jerome would play every Sunday at our church in Nanakuli, HI. The Christian music they would put forth will always be a blessing to me and my family and the people who attended the Faith, Hope, & Charity church. We were by his side when he passed on and he will never be forgotten. What he said about "putting Jesus in your heart" is so true. Thank you for continuing to bless us with your music. Aloha

I have know this young man who respectfully called me aunty. I have said this before and I will say this as long as I live, " Brother "IZ" is Hawaii. Never has there been a man with so much Love for his People and Lands. I know he has his place right next to our Heavenly Father, for he has spread so much Love all over the world with song, Pure Heart. not too often do you see such talented performers receiving oxygen through a nasal cannula during their performance and still showing the rest of the world how it's done! i like this guy, and i believe that his did a great work for Jesus and his ministry.

Not a day goes by since Braddah IZ died that I do not think of him. I moved to the east coast and he has gotten me thru my saddest and loneliest times here. Love and miss you Braddah IZ. Thank you for being you and all that you have given us. Much aloha.

It was certainly a sad day when he passed. I first listened to Iz when I was stationed in Hawaii and I fell in love with his music and who he was at heart.
I so miss this man..... When I heard what he said at 1:53 to 2:07 , I had to start clapping, as I know now where he is. He is in the presence of Jesus. So open your heart too., invite Jesus to come in, clean you, and be born again, and you too will know LOVE .....and one day hear IZ sing again....

One of My ALL TIME FAV'S from Braddah IZ! As a former Hula dancer, this is the song I would dearly dedicate my whole heart and soul to dancing to in respects and love to IZ and my home in Hawai'i if I ever danced to it.
You don't need to know the words to feel the music go straight to your soul. Iz will live on in all of us that loved him and his beautiful music until we all meet in that piece of paradise that he is saving for us. Hawaii is the closest thing to heaven on earth, and now Iz sings throught the wind to us until we are all one again.
I found Kamakawiwo to have been great. I wish I hear of him sooner. The world lost a great man. He is a Hawaiian profit. God must have this guy sing everyday in Haven. Thank you Hawaii! Aloha from the South East Coast of the main land.

I don't think IZ was sent down to Earth to make music. I think he was sent down to Earth to tell people the truth. Such a wonderful man. Truly understands life! He died as peaceful as anyone ever will. He had TRUE peace in his heart. Even as a Christian, I can't do that. But this man is about as close to perfect as a mortal man can be. GOD BLESS YOU IZ!!! It will be three years ago this month that I reluctantly left Hawaii and returned stateside after living there for three and a half months. I first heard of Israel while there and he came to personify all that is good about this dying paradise. Aloha to all the friends I left behind.

I remember watching this on TV, i was a little kid. I had no idea who this man was and what he gave to us. But i never forgot him and his Legacy, so here i am. Swimming in my memories and remembering this beautiful legend. The first time I heard he died I just had to cry, cry for the Hawaiian people and everybody else. Dis Hawaiian Braddah will always be da true Hawaiian supah Man. He beleived in what hawaii was before, and what it should be in the future. He representd Hawaiians in the most positive way, and that makes me proud to be Hawaiian. I beleive all of Hawaii should look to him as a motivation to keep Hawaii the way it is. His voice, and his music shall always be missed. He legacy and messege lives on through the Keiki and Kupuna of our Hawaiian lands.

I have sooo much respect for the Hawai'ian land, culture, and people. True Hawai'ians are some of the strongest most loving people I have ever encountered. You feel the Aloha everywhere and it will live forever.
I haven't seen this since it was on to that night. Heart-wrenching and gorgeous display of spirit, and the enduring surety of love. If you don't well up with emotion while this plays through, you may not know the story here, but you certainly must have something missing.

IZ is joined on stage by his original group who all had split up years before when IZ decided to go it alone. They all forgave each other that day and that is why they all had a cry. A fantastic performance and the entire audience knew the story and were overwelmed with the grandure of the event............God is blessing Isreal right now in Heaven.
Iz you tell it like it is. It is such a shame that you left us so soon for the Heavenly gates. I wish that more people would listen to your words. The world would be a much better place to live in. We all need to live in peace and respect each other. RIP you ambassador of peace.

I visited Hawaii many times before and cannot get it off my heart. I have become Hawaiian by heart. I love Hawaiian songs so much. It hurts so much not being there there. OMG, I recall being around 12 or so when I watched this on TV while having dinner with my family. As soon as Braddah IZ was introduced and started talking the entire Ohana went quiet and listened intently to his message. This performance was "Chicken Skin", everyone was in tears after seeing IZ and the Makaha Sons having hooponopono and singing on stage together.. He was such an awesome and talented man.
I was able to maintain until I saw Kealiʻi Reichel, then the waterfall hit. I don't think I can thank you enough for posting this video.
