- In 1993, Israel Kamakawiwoole and I made the decision to work together to launch a successful career for him as a solo artist. As we began to discover each others styles, habits, wants, needs, and goals, an opportunity knocked.....KHNL/K5 invited IZ to be on their hit TV show, Hot Hawaiian Nights, IZ had not yet rehearsed a band, but decided to do the show while he was still at Queen's Hospital. Big boy's attitude and focus began to change as he started to realize that his music had a profoundly positive impact on his health. Immediately upon his discharge from Queen's, IZ headed to the studio to tape this show. With Roland Cazimero and Mel Amina pooling their talents to provide musical support, IZ's renewed energy is apparent as he shines in these early performances.
In 1995, Hot Hawaiian Nights once again invited IZ to appear and this time he and his band were more than ready. IZ had grown comfortable with his status as a Hawaiian, as a musician and as a voice of his people. The band , Mel Amina, Analu Aina, Gaylord Holomalia and Mike Muldoon all fit together and everyone, including the viewer can feel how much fun they have while performing.
We are very grateful for this opportunity to again witness IZ performing. Hot Hawaiian Nights gave local entertainers a ticket into the homes of Hawaii's people while providing our community with the music it sought. From all of us at Mountain Apple Company/Big Boy Records we thank the many people who talents contributed to this work; the producers, directors, cameramen and women, technical and support staff. Without the creative work of all combined, we wouldn't have these two programs that will now again bring IZ and his unique performances into our homes and capture the magic that IZ sought to share with the world.

I am a pretty set country music. Gospel , bluegrass gal. I do listen to a huge variety of genres . I was visiting my baby sister . I was feeling pretty sorry for myself. I had some serious debilitating health issues. As sis and I were washing dishes she had Alexa play " Somewhere over the rainbow " by Iz. I broke down crying . He was just what I needed. Then I dug in with both feet to learn as much about him as I could. My whole family has trouble with obesity and all the side effects it causes. My baby brother got to be 6'8" 535 #s. So I understand how " he let himself get so big " . I love every inch and pound of that man . I believe God loaned him to us so we would get an idea of what Heaven is going to be like. I understand he was not a Saint on earth. But he was kind , gentle , incredibly intelligent , talented beyond measure , so beautiful. Carolyn J.
Every time I hear his voice , I cry because first I did not know he passed away in 97 but also because his voice is so beautiful . I watched the two part documentary on him and just amazing and the song that he did up at his friends house in the mountains I play over and over . God has got such amazing people in heaven , I can't wait to go . XOXOXOXO

This young man had a God given talent. He and his band had such beautiful harmony. Their love for Hawaii and the people is quite evident. And the love for this man is beautiful. I'm glad someone seen this man's talent and captured it on film for others to see, hear and enjoy.

Two amazing sets by IZ and his bands. Thank you ever so much for posting these gems. I cannot believe there are so few views or that two people have given a thumbs down. IZ was such a great performer and he looks like a man with a generous and open heart as well as someone passionate about his heritage. He went way too early.

Israel was an amazing kind human being who loved people and he gave us the gift of his beautiful voice. All of heaven is blessed to have welcomed a shining star among all stars with open arms with your songs. We will forever miss you Israel.
