Good afternoon, Jenny and Jerry. 🤗. I just came in from the garden doing early spring clean-up in zone 8a (North Carolina). I’m enjoying lunch and also enjoying the tour of your beautiful land. I have 2 perennials that were zapped and are now defoliated. After watching you, I’ve decided to trim the tops because there is new growth coming out of the bottom of the plants. Blessings to everyone for an enjoyable season of enjoyment in the garden. 🪴 🌸🦋❤️
I believe that's a 'Fireglow 'Japanese Maple. 'Flamethrower' is the name of a newish Redbud also with glorious color. Gorgeous garden tour! Happy Spring!
I knew it wasn't a Flamethrower JM so I was debating if it was a Twombly's Red Sentinel, Bloodgood or Emperor 1. Fireglow makes complete sense as well, I just planted one a couple of weeks ago.
As a new East Tn transplant you have taught me SO much! Loved watching this tour…but can we talk about that turf?! It’s so lush! Would love a video on how to maintain a lovely looking lawn as well! Love your channel so much! Thank you for all you do! ❤
It's glorious to see all the beautiful new green growth on most things. Your garden is so pretty. It's helpful to see the damage plants in your garden took from the cold freezes and how you are going to treat them and help them bounce back.
Good morning from NE Georgia (30 minutes from Athens)!! Your gardens are sooo inspiring and I love your honesty because it allows me to prepare my gardens. Blessings for a thriving season 💗🙏
Oh Hon, your shade garden's are absolutely beautiful. I live in NE OK. and my flower garden's are just now come alive a little bit. Thank you for showing and explaining all this stuff to us. I'm in zone 6 but not quiet like yours. Thank y'all so much. ❤
Oh, I wish we had Spring in Highlands, NC. No snow, but we are at a different zone than you and it is so gray out. The tulips and daffodils are out and a leaf or two, but that is it. We are told not to plant until Mother's Day. I have learned the hard way that is correct. It is coming soon! The arctic blast killed our Ivy and another ground cover. In fact, I think I have other dead plants, so I will have a lot of work to do this year. That's a garden....you never know what you will have each year.
VETCH! The bain of my garden/yard! So glad it isn't just me that say vetch, vetch as I yank them out! I'm so anxious to see the first of the hummers arrive here in our NC area (Raleigh-ish) Beautiful tour, Jenny! Y'all have worked so hard and it is stunning!
I was ready to give up on my azaleas damaged by the artic blast, I'll try fertilizing and hopefully save them. Thanks for showing us the beauty of your gardens, along with the damaged plants. I always learn from you!
Thanks for taking us on the garden tour. How beautiful!! I’m glad you keep it real & show it all I including the plants not going so well. Bron New South Wales
I’m in the same boat with my Macrophyllas, too! Covered, protected, but damaged nonetheless! I plan to wait until it should have bloomed (mid-May to early June in Georgia, zone 8a) and then I’ll give it a good pruning and fertilize well with Hollytone!
I promised myself to not get that spring fever again but I did…starting new beds and I’m already exhausted! I just can’t keep my hands out of the dirt when it warms up! I’m going to be adding more coral bells and hostas to my shade bed and completely re-doing a sun bed next to my patio! Just so excited. Still slightly early for zone 6 but I can’t help myself…love the info you give!
I just set my winter sown seeds outside. 😊 By Easter we're maybe going to reach 70s, but today, we're expecting snow. Hopefully our last. It'll probably bump this to 2nd snowiest winter ever in Minneapolis.
Question about the Pugster Butterfly bush! I’m in 7a, mine looks exactly the same as yours. How far back should it be pruned back since I don’t have any foliage growth on the stems, only on the base? I just put these in last year and never dreamed I would have to cut them back drastically!
My euonymus completely defoliated after that deep freeze in December. I think it’s alive. It’s got buds and is flexible. I’m also planning on giving it a good trim and fertilizing.
I’m amazed by the growth of your white feathers hosta. I bought 2 bare root white feathers last year. They died back in the winter and are now just emerging. I’m in 10b and thought they’d be further along.
Your climbing roses are spectacular well done Jenny....you didn't sound like your usual self...were you tired or did someone nit wit tell you to speak slower. Love what you are doing
Zone 7a- l think the 15 Encore azaleas I planted last fall succumbed to the arctic blast. So sad and upset about lost plants, money and effort. Lost a number of Buford holly too that were still in pots. There is some comfort knowing others had the same issue. Good news is that I planted about 20 rhododendron, and they survived. Already bought new azaleas to replace dead ones. Gardeners are known for patience and resilience. 🌻
Everything is so beautiful! I always love to see plants blooming! Our weather is starting to get better wanted to start planting tomorrow but another rain storm coming through oh well another day!
My supertunia vista bubble gum has reappeared for the third year in a row. The base has developed wood! I'm in zone 8 where some annuals are perennials. Dalhia, and snap dragons are too!
Don't give up on your macros!! I'm in zone 8a, southeast VA and so many years I've thought mine were toast and they came back and bloomed. I love your shade garden, it inspires me 😊
Thanks for such a lovely garden tour. Spring has been very slow to arrive here in the UK and I have several plants that look like they perhaps haven’t survived the winter but hopefully in a few more weeks they’ll start to push new growth.
