I think the ultimate fusion of these two would make the ultimate Blitzwing figure tbh. Take the Legacy figure’s general transformation, give it the TR kibble management in jet mode, and the titan/headmaster gimmick. That way you can have a cartoon accurate tank if you want, with the jet cockpit sticking out, but you can also have a real life accurate tank by flipping the head assembly around and removing the head/titan master. Idk if a titan master would fit in the jet cockpit, but you could easily give him a seat in the tank.
Totally agree. I had no interest in picking up the Legacy Blitzwing at full price (Around £55.99 UK), but I happened to spot him when he was on sale for £29.99 UK and snapped it up! Not seen him at that low a price ever since!
Watching this review makes me regret getting rid of my titans return blitzwing because I loved that thing. Second hearing you mention not using the instructions makes me kinda want to see them do like back in g1 times. Release a transformer like six shot with no instructions and tell people see how many you can find. Though modern poeple probably wouldn’t like that. Though I would personally like that.
Having never owned the Titans Return version (which I wanted but couldn't get unfortunately) I only have the Legacy Blitzwing to go off of. However, seeing this video does show how much better Transformers have come in regard to figure design, proportions, and in most cases, quality. Ever since the War for Cybertron Trilogy waves came out, I felt that I could get one version of each character I wanted (whether Cybertronian or Earth version), not having to get the "next thing" because it was better. Not every single figure released as part of this current phase of Hasbro Transformers has been perfect, however the majority of them tick all the boxes for me in rounding out my collection. All of that is to say that in my opinion, the Legacy Blitzwing is the better figure and better value for your money. You can get it and not feel like you need another Blitzwing figure ever again, which saves you more money down the road when Hasbro releases a better version of Prowl or something :) - Thanks for the review Jcc2224, I always enjoy your videos!
I got the Titan's Return voyager for less than a current day deluxe and I like it enough to not bother with the new one. If I ever find it for a really good deal I may get the new one but I'm content with the Titan's Return figure. I think the thrusters in front of the tank for the old one looks cool, like front mounted flamethrowers lol

It's so funny you bring that up, cuz I TOTALLY forgot I had given him a 30th Blitz sword! I got a pretty gnarled up 30th Blitz at the thrift store (I think?) that somehow still had his sword, and I gave it to him. lol
The Legacy Blitzwing definitely wins visuals and articulation in robot mode, but in my opinion the obsession with going full G1 accurate played against it, the tank's cockpit sticking out (with a fake cockpit), as well as the robot's laughable wings are there just to be G1 accurate. TR Blitzwing might have a less articulated bot, but it manages to get everything where it should be (wings and turret in the back, stabilizers in the lower legs, fuselage in chest) without the use of any fake parts, and the jet even manages to resemble an actual MiG-26 Foxbat with the cockpit detail, wing shape and curvy intakes. Tank is the weakest mode, with the front gap (polar opposite of the Legacy tank) and broad wing panels in the sides. It's probably unpopular, but I believe the Headmaster gimmick in TR Blitzwing makes the toy better: the functioning jet cockpit is great, and the pop out purple panels both conceal the Headmaster's sides and are G1 accurate. In summary, both are kind of balanced. Legacy has a great robot, a good tank, and a bad jet TR has a great jet, a good robot and a bad tank But the fact TR manages to get it all done without fake parts is the decisive factor for me, it's an inferior action figure but a better transformer. PD: The QC issues plaguing TR Blitzwing (thick obstrusive paint in face and thighs, legs that don't tab into each other properly, arms that don't tab in jet mode, the horrible foil stickers, wings that pop off easily) are not present in the Takara LG version. I recommend getting that one if you really like the mold and are willing to pay a bit more for it, I paid $63 for mine but having all the potential of the mold available was worth it. I would assume the LG G2 Megatron also has no QC issues but I don't own it, so I can't say for sure
I absolutely love Blitzwing. I have his TFA figure and his G1. For a long while I wanted the titans return but I could only find the Takara one online for a stupidly high price. When the Legacy one dropped I jumped right at it. Personally I find it funny how both of them switch out on who has a better alt mode. Not a big fan of the jet mode for legacy due to all that kibble tank parts just sticking out, while the TR one cleans up well on the jet. But then they switch it up on the tank mode haha I absolutely love the robot mode for Legacy. I always see Blitz as some sort of hulking brute and to me it nails it well, plus the current articulation adds more fun especially with a flight stand. I do agree though that the extra hand accessories are pretty dumb. I stuck them on once and then tossed them into the parts bin. I remember for awhile there was a weird conspiracy some people believed that those where going to be Menasors hands? Lol great comparison video! Honestly love these. Especially with how much changes over little time, both in terms of quality and engineering.
These two Blitzwings are pretty cool, I wonder if there was an earlier Blitzwing figure...oh yeah that's right Animated, really solid figure as well. Though Animated Blitzwing didn't come with a sword.

I really don't mind how some figures get priced a class higher for engineering instead of size, it just means that you know you're gonna get a really good quality figure all round. I find the gripes people have with Legacy Blitzwing's alt-modes to be overstated, the cockpit in the tank mode is completely ignorable, and the tank on the Jet mode, well, so much you can do going for G1 accuracy and the nature of his transformations, ignoring the obvious kibble (which by removing a pin you can actually separate the two alt modes entirely), the Jet itself is pretty immaculate I I love the transformation of his legs and cockpit.
I have similar experiences with titan returns figures but with different characters. I have burned through a copy of this figure and have re purchased it again. I have yet to transform over lord in any way...i think its a matter of space and the play pattern for each figure is different...and yes...broadside is terrible...i put him right into air craft carrier and never looked back

And as of yet, I'm still undecided in the matter. I think the G1 Blitzwing had quite a good transformation, but since I'm not very fond of unmovable bricks...well...let's just say I prefer posability over G1 bricks. Regarding Legacy Blitzwing, I saw one guy removing the whole tank part underneath the plane and it made it look so much better, several of those pieces are easy to remove, so for display purposes I would just remove them. Regarding Titans Return, I had that version but later sold it when I managed to get my hands on the Takara version, which has so much better colors and no stickers but instead it has painted details, so overall the Takara wins it for me, but I'm not counting out the Legacy version just yet, it's just that Titans Return ended up losing everything to the other two guys.
I will always be annoyed that we never got alternate Animated heads for titans return blitzwing, when the whole gimmick is a removable head, being able to use that to give Blitzwings three faces would've been great Tbh giving titans return blitz the legacy energon fists actually fits well with the bulky arms
I own both molds and the G1 toy and…the cartoon’s front cockpit in tank mode is a mistransformation of the original toy. The nosecone was meant to hide away in the back to help not break the illusion of triple changing. G1 Blitzwing’s toy was based on two real world vehicles (and alarmingly quite closely at that) so as weird as it may look, turning the turret on the old figure to the “back” on the G1 tank mode is actually more irl accurate. I don’t mind it being in the front of the tank for tradition, but the Legacy one *does* feel a bit too big imo. I like both modern molds (way more than T30 Blitzwing) despite their faults, but it does make me sad that no modern figure’s attempted to stick to the G1 transformation, since I think it easily had the least compromised alt modes. I think a workable modern bot mode could be pulled from the G1 toy, but either way it is nice to see him get modern figures still. I remember the dirth of Blitzwing back during the earlier CHUG days and mmmmm those were interesting.
The hands are an abomination…..but, the Legacy Blitzwing itself is really good!! Jet mode is the weakest but it’s not terrible. The bot is amazing and the tank is very good. I never got TR Blitzwing but it does look like a good toy! Wouldn’t mind having that one either only because I love Blitz!
9:40 Actually no. The jet cockpit in tank mode is not g1 accurate. In the show it is supposed to have a tan flap that somewhat hides it. It doesn’t just hang out like that in the show. And even if it was accurate it’s kinda a moot point when the tank mode itself is the complete wrong tank.
recently picked up the g1 toy and there’s some nice transformation callbacks on both of them been eyeing the legacy one since he’s on clearance on pulse and i need to pad my decepticon ranks
It took me a long while for me to warm up to the jet mode on Legacy, but with the help of an old Zord, I did: the Mega Winger from Power Rangers in Space. Now, I wish i could replace the jet wings to be longer to better resemble that flying tank, but alas, that would interfere with the transformation, so looks like my imagination will have to do even more coping. The tank cockpit, and more importantly the gap above it, let's see if i cover it up. However, the cockpit isn't accurate. The presence of it is, but the actual thing is still too long, angled wrong. and the cockpit is blue. If people wanna say it's accurate, then they gotta say that the bulk in jet mode is perfectly accurate
The new blitzwing is really cool and I already have the titans return one but I really dislike headmasters and the gimmick they have so I’ll probably get the legacy one unless they make a new animated version
Blitzwing is one of my favorites, too. His G1 toy has yet to be surpassed, IMO. I'm not saying that because I'm an old G1-er (even though I am), I truly believe it's one of the very few G1 toys which is the best available representation of the character-especially when all three modes are considered. I like the Legacy one just a tad more than the Titans Return one because of the robot mode, plastic quality, and paint. Both toys are nice in their own ways, as you put so well in this video. I don't collect G1 but I have to agree, G1 Blitzwing is the best official version of the character yet, the cleanest jet, the cleanest tank, a limited but very recognizable robot mode, and a beautiful transformation that makes all modes work with a relatively simple but clever use of triangular panels.
I really do side with the "yeah these figures are smaller, but you get what you pay for" side of the argument, but I definitely can understand why some people would be on the other side, because in recent times, some of my favorite figures have been the big bulky toys like the BW primal reissue or the studio series dinobots, However, I do find it very amusing that there's a decent amount of people who are upset at the new stuff for being too small, going "uh, they're up charging the new stuff while making it smaller, that's just no good, now I'm gonna go buy third party stuff", which either make legends scale figures for like 40-50 dollars, the bigger ones which range from leader, voyager, or commander in scale for like 80-200 dollars.
TR is from that unwhiely period where hasbro was not sure if was a better idea to make new vesrion of classic toys, new versions of the cartoon characters, or new toys altogether, and blitzwing was smak in the middle of that, to the point that all other version of the mold are weird, far out choices that get universally praised, and triplechanging megatron that suffers of the 'ok but why' the not-laser optimus does. on a similar note, TR was the moment where cutting a bit on the plastic quality was seen at the alternative TR is much more kibbly in robot mode as a result, and much more generic in shapes. it's sad that with the gimmick of head change a second titanmaster with the alternate head was not in the package, on the other hand legacy is a 1:1 to what e saw on schreen for both robot mode and tank mode. I'm in the most absolute disagreement for the price detailing as there's distibution in that, and TR blitz here was so overwhelmingly rare that for a specific time period of 2 months it was cheaper to order the takara legends version, than to get into one of the 13 retailers that sold blitzwing and buy it from there at this point, legacy blitzwing is the better figure, but by no mean is a 'necessary' upgrade from TR
I hate how Hasbro adds dumb accessories to "justify" the price point. I think it's passable with Astrotrain but not Blitzwing, Shockwave, or even Galvatron. It's just a waste of effort from them and money for collectors. Hasbro, it's a voyager with extra accessories, stop trying to convince otherwise. if you're going to make them leaders, then make them leader-sized.

The sword you have with TR blitz is the Trilling 30's one, which is in my opinion the best version of that weapon we've gotten

I really do side with the "yeah these figures are smaller, but you get what you pay for" side of the argument, but I definitely can understand why some people would be on the other side, because in recent times, some of my favorite figures have been the big bulky toys like the BW primal reissue or the studio series dinobots, However, I do find it very amusing that there's a decent amount of people who are upset at the new stuff for being too small, going "uh, they're up charging the new stuff while making it smaller, that's just no good, now I'm gonna go buy third party stuff", which either make legends scale figures for like 40-50 dollars, the bigger ones which range from leader, voyager, or commander in scale for like 80-200 dollars.
TR is from that unwhiely period where hasbro was not sure if was a better idea to make new vesrion of classic toys, new versions of the cartoon characters, or new toys altogether, and blitzwing was smak in the middle of that, to the point that all other version of the mold are weird, far out choices that get universally praised, and triplechanging megatron that suffers of the 'ok but why' the not-laser optimus does. on a similar note, TR was the moment where cutting a bit on the plastic quality was seen at the alternative
TR is much more kibbly in robot mode as a result, and much more generic in shapes. it's sad that with the gimmick of head change a second titanmaster with the alternate head was not in the package, on the other hand legacy is a 1:1 to what e saw on schreen for both robot mode and tank mode. I'm in the most absolute disagreement for the price detailing as there's distibution in that, and TR blitz here was so overwhelmingly rare that for a specific time period of 2 months it was cheaper to order the takara legends version, than to get into one of the 13 retailers that sold blitzwing and buy it from there
at this point, legacy blitzwing is the better figure, but by no mean is a 'necessary' upgrade from TR
I hate how Hasbro adds dumb accessories to "justify" the price point. I think it's passable with Astrotrain but not Blitzwing, Shockwave, or even Galvatron. It's just a waste of effort from them and money for collectors. Hasbro, it's a voyager with extra accessories, stop trying to convince otherwise. if you're going to make them leaders, then make them leader-sized.
