I brought some stunning gold rams a few weeks back and have been wanting to make a black water scape for them ever since. I think we have achieved a really awesome naturalistic environment for them.

If you feed super fine flakes or baby brine shrimp that pair will start laying eggs super soon. Keep both parents fed and introduce tiny bits of baby food. If the parents knows there's food for the babies, they breed super easy. Love the tank. I live in South Africa and honestly did not know I could use Rooibos tea to create black water. Such a clever idea!

Also emerald rasboras/daino would look good as well. But school CPD's I can't disagree that with the activity and the color it would be good option. I like both not to much difference in requirements as they do come near from the same area. The Emeralds do like a plant mat at the surface. As the come from a large lake that has grass mats of vegetation floating on the surface and CPD's are more slow moving streams and pools. You can put them together however they may cross bred.

To achieve black water you should try using dried walnut leaves. I use those leaves to feed shrimp. I let those leaves soak a few days before I put them in the tank just to be sure they sink. But those leaves turn the water pretty dark. Plus it makes the water quality better. So it's a win win :)

This is my new favorite scape of yours. Excellent work MD, thanks for sharing this beauty. I think we will need MD channel 2 where you film your tanks for 20-30 minutes, show them off with some subtle music. Would be an awesome thing to have on in the background while doing work. Cheers!

If you're looking for more nano/dither fish, that will look great with those rams, get some coral red pencilfish. I just got 6 and they are equal parts amazing & gorgeous! They're a bit pricey for how little they are, but they would really pop in that tank. I have zero regrets!

Love the channel ... I've used your idea of using the Rooibos herbal tea to darken the water, the reason being is my tiger barbs tend to hide a lot when the main light is on and they come out if I have a less bright light on, so my thinking was to darken the water like in their natural habitat, and a few days later (after giving them some tea) there is a good noticeable difference in their behaviour, oh and it looks good.
