The Hard Truth About Fishing the Truckee River

Normally, my videos are testaments to some of the big fish I'm able to trick and get into my net. This time, however, the video documents how difficult it actually is most days to get these larger Truckee River trout into the net after you've tricked them. Three different fishing sessions across three days resulted in only a couple mediocre fish being landed. In comparison, several large fish that I was able to hook (including one giant) made me their bitch and were able to wrap me up, trick me and/or break me off and swim off with my artificial. In short, lots of things need to go right to get one of these bigger trout into the net....only one thing has to go wrong to lose them!

What kind of lures are you using this time of year?

jerk baits primarily...anything that mimics a crawfish or minnow

Should have used 10lb braid and maybe a shimano reel atleast you’ll have more control of the fish

I used braid in the past...I hate the wind knots and other similar issues that go along with it. Running straight fluoro for me. Plus, I'm super rough on my gear so don't want to worry about breaking expensive rods and reels
