- Hi, this video experiments with trying to get a digital game working on a 2nd and 3rd Nintendo Switch and tries to answer questions you may have about the Nintendo Switch online service. This allows you to log into another Nintendo Switch and play your digital and physical games.

Also, since the primary console doesn't need to be online to play digital games, you could simply set the primary console into airplane mode and be able to play on two consoles under the same user at the same time. That could be a good solution for sharing primarily single player games like Zelda and Mario Odyssey. Obviously you need to agree on who gets to play online games like Splatoon at what times, and you need to trust eachother not to overwrite the other person's save on the save data cloud or delete it. That last bit is why I don't really want to share my account with others, especially younger people. Save data is very important to me, and if I lost my save data in a game I was in the middle of, I would probably not play that game again for a long time.

Alright here is a rundown of what i know,
switch-A (home switch) and switch-B (second switch)
Any profile can play your games on switch-A.
only you can play your games on switch-B with an internet connection to verify that you are not playing on switch-A, but after it verifies, you can turn on airplane mode and play offline on switch-B
You can not play the same game on both switches with the same account.
You can play differant games on both switches with the same account.
You can play the same game on Switch-B that another account is playing on Switch-A.
This should answer anyones questions that read this.
Can you play games on switch B if switch A is turned off and not connected to the internet?

Have you tryed to have the second switch online and start the game then set it to airplane mode(holding the home button). Then could you play both games at the same time?

The automatic save data feature is just for uploading save data to the cloud but not for downloading it from the cloud. If you want to download save data from the cloud, you have to do that manually.

haven't even watched the video yet but have left a like! been watching a lot of your videos and I have found them very interesting as I love looking inside consoles however I don't trust myself to do it haha. Not sure if it's been said, but the reason you weren't able to play an updated save file when you had the cloud automatically turned on is that it only automatically saves progress. It doesn't load your progress which is why you have to do it manually.

i've been reluctant to get the switch online service becuz i like to share my games with friends... thanks for testing this out... now i know i can DISABLE automatic save data back up...cuz in my case, i want us both to have separate save files for our shared games.. i do not want to sync any save data between mine and my frnz consoles

The thing is, the automaticly backup is transfering from console to cloud, not from cloud to console, that's why you have to download to console from cloud once if you want other device to be a duplicate.

Something you didn’t answer, can 2 people play different games with the one account? Unless i missed it when skimming through the video
I dont think that's going to work. You're forced to play the games on the account that purchased the games. So if for instance you play Mario Kart on your account, and they go and play Skyrim on the same account it's going to prevent them from playing because someone is already on that account. The best solution to this is to be offline or to switch users while playing your games.
I havent tested this with physical and digital. This mostly has to do with playing digital games.
Hi there. No, unfortunately whenever you start up a game even a different one on the active console it will stop the game on the 2nd console. BUT.....if the active console is offline then you can play any game on both consoles under the same profile at the same time. Also it appears that the 2nd console only needs to be online for the initial check before playing the game. Once that check is done it looks like the 2nd console can then be played when offline :-)

Daniel328 DT. Thanks for helping with the questions on here. You obviously know you stuff with the game sharing. I wish I had thought of these questions while filming the video but hopefully viewers will read your and my replies on here. I don't know how long it will work when the 2nd Switch is offline after passing the initial online check, maybe it stops after 1 hour or so as I didn't test it that long but it is still interesting to see possible ways around it :-)
All this is mostly for digital gaming right? But how would it work with dlc for games like smash and zelda?
Good informative video 🙂 , but I still have a question. I read somewhere that splatoon 2 data is not cloud backed up. Is there still a way to transfer save data from one switch to another one with games who don't support the cloud saves?

Where did you get the Mario Kart screen protector? Can't seem to find one anywhere
They can both play the same game at the same time if the second switch is disconnected from the Internet after the game is started. Also, the other profiles in the switch can play the games if you have them in your family. My son plays all the games I buy under my account on his switch.

Haven't seen this XL mod before, did you come up with the design? Do you have a link with more info? I saw your original Switch XL mod, but it seems this is a lot more involved and polished. Looks nice.
Thanks, I did a video on a XL Pro enclosure I think I called it, it was where you docked the Switch into the back of the enclosure to use the bigger 10" 1080p. BUT...then I had a Switch with a broken LCD connector on the main motherboard so it could only be used while docking so I thought I would make myself a permanent 10" 1080p Switch :-) I was thinking of doing a video on it but it is so similar to the Pro enclosure I thought it might annoy viewers. If you and a few others want to see it in more detail then I can do a video on it. Maybe people can comment below here if they want to see it in more detail :-)

Im not Vince but you cannot. Two of the same accounts cant be played at the same time. Doing this will pause the second Switch or prompt them to close the software. Make sure that your primary Switch console is on another user when the non-primary Switch console is playing your games to not cause interference.

What @@Daniel328DT is correct. Bought my daughter a Nintendo switch. Made her console my accounts primary and her accounts my consoles primary.
We can now play all the games I bought at the same time on our own profiles. But my switch has to be online to play games. Not a problem with a Wi-Fi hotspot
i think if you open the game on that other console and close it it would download the save data after you close the game. I think that is when it downloads the data, you have to open the game first so it knows to get the backup from the cloud... this may have changed but that is how it worked when the cloud saves started.. you had to start the game first for it to back it up

Any idea if you could play two different games at the same time on the same account? Just curious.
Question: when you link a second switch like you did with the mario cart one, people who arnt your user couldn't play. Does that lock other users on your original one (red and blue) out as well? Cause as it stands, other users on my switch can use my software without being connected to a Nintendo account, and if connecting it to another switch stops that, that sucks.

Automatic thing is only backup, not download. gessing not to make the progress dissapear so easily on the console where you progressed further. A good thing i belive. Nice thing to check out would also be if you can play diferent at the same time because the wording on the errors indicates that it would not be possible.
Notice: When you re-download The software on the "New" Nintendo Switch, It works with all users. That's What we did with Smash ultimate.
Edit: I am incorrect. On your first console, (The Home Switch) the game is available to everyone if it is digital. On your second console it only works for the user that bought the game.

People who use bots to watch every video this guy releases to immediately dislike then upon upload.
There's people who do the same thing, but like the video instead.
Basically, these people try to get big time youtubers banned for "getting more views/likes through bots" even though in reality they aren't doing this at all.
Most of the time youtube recognizes this, and will take the likes off the videos/views.
This was actually implemented back in 2009-10 which is also the year where a lot of people were stating they were getting far less likes/views then they used to, which was because of bots.

A game purchased by Vince can be played by any account on the primary switch at the same time as Vince on the second console.
Here's another question. Say you are on the same account with two different games. The primary/active console is playing Fortnite and the second person wants to play Mario Kart 8...would it work that way?
So.... If a switch breaks and you buy a new one you still need to re buy your digital games to play on the go?

yes you can. it works just like it does on Xbox One. Me and my daughter play 1 digital copy of Diablo 3.

What I don’t understand is why they don’t let other accounts play your shared games like they can do on your main console. They have your account on their console, so they can screw you and your saves up. It’s not that you link your account to untrusted consoles and they still can limit the use of a game to a single account at a time and with an internet connection, so there’s really no risk that one person buys a game and 100 people play it.
You still can do it on your main console, so I really can’t see why you can’t do that on secondary consoles you link your account to.
After sharing games with other console can it still work without internet I mean playing the shared game from other console to you console without internet???

I have the same account on two switche. For splatoon 2 since it doesnt have sava data cloud, if one of the switches break my other switch will be safe and have the save data safe? So in conclusion two switches with one account game sharing on both one breaks save data still safe on other one. Or is it diffrent so same account two switches one breaks its gone on other console?

Maybe it's like the Xbox, I share my games with someone and we both can play online the same game at the same time together. Try this, make the new switch the home console and try to play on the second account. The home console can play offline anything but the main account needs to be online in order to play the downloaded games. Hope this helps

You can play shared games online with 2 accounts at the same time. Because the person with the primary account that own the game can play on another account. The other person that uses the shared account and has to check in with the Internet can still play the game while the other person is also playing the game
Can you both play say Mario kart against each other online... Like you say the primary holder using a different acct?

Have you tried to run a digital copy of the game on the secondary switch first with a connected internet connection and then once the game starts running put the device on airplane mode and then start the primary switch and play the same game being connected to the internet. I’m doing that with animal crossing for my mom’s switch lite have the game started with an internet connection using my account and then put it airplane mode right after, so she and I can both play the same game at the same time with our own individual save data.
what happens if you turn off the wifi on your main console and then start playing the title on both?
reason it isn't loading your save data, as the auto save data is for automatic "backing up" not restoring your save data. if it did perform the automatic backup save data it would of overwritten your original save so that's why it didn't kick, that's by design.
What happen if active one play racing game and 2nd one play king ball at the same time? Is it allow?
@mymatevince Try disconnecting the internet from the home console. Then when the new one checks if the game is being played, it won’t know.

Can you play different games at the same time, on two switches with the same account? All of your testing was with the same game on both units
Yes you can play on the same account on both consoles if the primary console is offline. If you are online on the primary console and you try and do the same thing, the second Switch will pause the game playing on that screen. Easy fix is to have the primary console play the game on a separate user and have the second console communicate through your linked account.
It may be a user issue. Try going on with a different user, u can play at the same time

U can play the same game on both consoles at the same time using 1NS online membership account(if u have 2 switch consoles) .use the different user on the primary console but u cant play online or NES games on same time.this also applies for online games like "vs super mario bro". But ofcourse u can play different games on same time. To use youtube app at same time register 2nd user with nintendo account (Europe or usa)on primary console .
So tell me what exactly prevents the other user who is playing your games not be able to play online when you're online? Do you get an error message or something? I haven't quite tested this myself since you need two active NSO membership accounts, but it seems to work fine offline wise.

I guess I would upload my game saves to the cloud server, but he would have to keep his game saves local; I.e. on his Switch only.
Something you didn't test: if user 2 starts a new save file and then backs up their save data, does it overwrite the original user's save data? In other words, will I lose over 200 hours of Zelda if my friend is an idiot or makes an "oops"?
