    Ancient creatures tend to capture our imaginations. Based on only fossil records, we try to discover all we can about animals that once roamed our planet. Few prehistoric animals inspire the kind of awe and fascination as the megalodon. We tend to think of them as just bigger versions of the great white shark, but you’ll see that these two sharks had a lot of differences. And even though they both swam the seas at the same time, it’s unlikely that they would have ever interacted with one another, which is probably a good thing for the great white! With gigantic mouths filled with hundreds of teeth, the megalodon was a fierce, apex predator with a hunting style that the great white would never be able to pull off.

      Explain how they would've lived.If they evolved to be smaller,To eat less.(Because there is not enough food down there)They would not be classifed as a megalodon.Explain how they would cope with the pressure,Or the sperm whales,Or the Colossal/Giant Squid

      If they have evolved till now than everything in them would’ve evolved as well their genetics would’ve been altered and their skin would toughen to endured the pressure and if they evolved to be smaller than they be in the same family as a megaladon but not megaladon itself but you never know evolution can altered organisms that we never thought they can be evolved into

      VEGETA SSJ 3 if the megalodon was alive it will be the shark that will loose the more teeth in the ocean. But every teeth we have discovered are very very old. And you don't need to go deep in the ocean to find some.

      Vincent Rabajoie well only 15% of oceans have been explored and water cover 95% of the earth and only 5% land on Earth creachers are discovered every day so who says it's still alive in the very depths of the oceans witch is deeper than everst top to bottom so who knows man

    • @vincentrabajoie748
      @vincentrabajoie748 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you know what live at the bottom of the ocean ? Me neither, but it doesn't have a skeleton, like the blobfish because of the high pressure. So if a megalodon exist someone should have seen it at least once. But no one did. A big creatures like this can't hide forever. If we didn't found it yet, it means it doesn't exist (anymore). No matter how many % of the ocean is discover. Such a big predator is not able to hide itself. It is too big. Even the white shark is not going too deep in the ocean. No i'm sorry but it's not possible, or since the year it has lose weight, seize, bones... If it still exist it doesn't look like a megalodon anymore, maybe it has the size of a great white shark. Before creatures were able to be very big, this time is over now.

      In my opinion, I think Megalodon is extinct, and the reason why is, if whales are mostly near the surface as we almost always see them in pictures, then wouldn't Megalodon be near the surface as well? Large adult Megalodons hunted whales and if there were whales around back then, then there would almost always be a Megalodon around about to kill it. Since we have a lot of pictures of whales near the surface from a birds eye view, than why don't we see a Megalodon in at least one of those pictures, because it is extinct. Megalodons couldn't have lived in deep water because there is almost nothing that it would need to eat. The only thing there would be to eat would be giant squids which are still not enough for Megalodon to eat and then of course sperm whales. Now if they somehow were able to survive in deep water, there would still be sperm whales which could give the Megalodon a good run for it's money. Sperm whales would probably not be as stealthy as the Megalodon but if it was able to sneak up on a Megalodon, then the sperm whale could ram it's massive head into the Megalodon which would stun it, making it not able to swim, and it would die because there is no water running through it's gills. That is why I think that Megalodon is extinct. But you are entitled to your own opinion. ;)

    • @galvinstanley3235
      @galvinstanley3235 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Allot of animals changed form,when they had to deal with mass extinction;it's possible,but not likely that the Megaladon is very much alive,but it's much smaller,then the monster it used to be.

      @Cometstarlight 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Yes, but if they hunted things like whales, wouldn't we see evidence of carnage against them? Whale carcasses balloon up to the surface from gases before sinking back down to the bottom of the ocean. So wouldn't they be seen be whale watchers, scientists, hunters, navigators, fisherman, etc.? Wouldn't fishing boats, ocean liners, and other sizable water craft be attacked? Plus, we'd see new megalodon teeth. I'm talking fresh, white, not fossilized teeth. Not yellow/brown teeth. White. It's safe to say this thing has been extinct for a LONG time and while I love sharks, I'm glad I don't have to worry about this one.

    • @finndonnelly9062
      @finndonnelly9062 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      becuase they prefer shallower warmer waters as that is where their main prey whales, live. therefore them living in deeper waters would be like a vampire going to live in the sahara desert

    • @aniket33591
      @aniket33591 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +FinnDCraft Bagelmon No, they used to hunt everywhere but we only found fossils in shallower places as they're land today and we didn't venture the ocean depths. Now if they do exist, great whites as well as their own lower population has restricted them to mid oceans, and deeper places like the continental ridges which comprise most of the ocean body. Squids attract sperm whales, blue whales and other big whales here. Other large sharks also dwell here. Megalodons if there, can still have their favorite food and sustain themselves without notice.

    • @aniket33591
      @aniket33591 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Loading. I'm not saying they live on the sea bed but that they stay away from the shores, hunt near the surface of deeper oceans because in the ice age shallower places weren't ocean, only deeper regions were. So if a megalodon dies, their remains will sink to the bottom of the deeper oceans. Hence we should conduct dredging in such areas if we wish to find newer megalodon teeth or remains.

      two things: the megaladon's main prey is whales which live in warmer shallower waters then it wouldn't make sense for your theory which suggests that great whites are baby megaladons that their supposed babies would live in colder deeper waters like great whites do? also your theory is disproven by the fact that great whites that have been tagged by researchers to monitor their lives are not recorded as A: diving deep into the sea or the earths core and B: when said researchers find them again and monitor their size have not found a specimen growing larger then 16 feet in length.

    A lot of the ocean still hasn't been explored, so I do still think that there's a 60ft-100ft Megalodon out there somewhere, possibly even multiple Megalodon's!
    But the ocean is so deep, there probably is giant see monsters out there that make Megalodon look like a grain of rice in size comparison, probably a prehistoric dinosaur, you never know!
    Researchers say that Megalodon went extinct about 2.6 million years ago, but but you shouldn't always believe what you see on the internet, that's just their opinion; Megalodon could still be roaming the ocean as we speak...

Megalodon was more than 100 feet and weighted more than 100 tons and had a bite force of 18 to 52 tons per square inch. Scientists believe that 95% of oceans are unexplored and Megalodon may still exist.

    Megalodons likely never weighed anything above 65 tonnes. I estimated the weight using a modern great white. My estimates also yield an average weight of 44.5 tonnes.
    Here's some real info
    Carcharacles megalodon(average)
    length: 16 meters(about 53 feet)
    weight: 44.5 tonnes(about 49 tons)
    Prey:
    Mostly whales around 7-9 meters long, turtles, pinnepids, other sharks, probably cannibalistic.
    Also orcas measure 8 meters, 6 tonnes average and 9.8 meters 10.5 tonnes max, so that makes Megalodon 2 times longer and 7 times heavier than killer whales.

    Okay everyone has their own opinions on this topic. I for one believe megalodons are still around, and before you come and say it's not possible please just listen to my theory. Yes it is quite long but I think it's worth the read.
    1. How can you explain one of the biggest creatures we've ever discovered disappearing all of a sudden? If they were the biggest creature how could they suddenly go extinct? What would have killed them?
    2. I for one believe that they do live in the deep, and before you say that's not possible, let me explain why. There is a possibility that the megalodon adapted to the dark depths of the water and hunting down there. Since there is only a small percentage of the ocean explored, there is a chance that there is big enough prey at the bottom to suffice these massive creatures. If you believe in evolution then this is a very possible theory.
    3. Adding on to the previous statement (though this one is a little far fetched), maybe the megalodon started to swim deeper into the ocean and realized that there were much bigger prey for it to chew on. As it swam deeper it started to adapt and evolve to the light fading, the different temp, etc.
    4. This one is here mainly to clear up a few things I saw in other comments. Just because there are fossilized teeth doesn't necessarily mean the megalodon is extinct. For example, great whites loose their teeth all the time, and I'm sure that a great white tooth from centuries ago would look a lot more fossilized then a great white tooth now right? Yes indeed it would, therefore, all these teeth that they find could be linked to megalodons millions of years ago, which doesn't prove they aren't still alive because if they are adapted to the dark depths, then their teeth would be down there and not washed up on the shore or in waters that people can find them.
    So this mostly raps up my argument on why I believe that megalodons are still alive. Yes you can argue with me all you want about how they are extinct, but you can't argue with the fact that it cannot technically be proven that they are extinct until we have searched all depths of the ocean. If you made it here then thank you for taking your time out of your day to read my argument! I really appreciate it, also, if you disagree or have more evidence comment back to me so I can try and see from your perspective on the subject. Also if you couldn't tell I'm a die hard shark fan and excited for shark week starting tomorrow:)

    Honestly, as much as the thought of it is terrifying, Megalodons could very well still be alive. We've discovered less than 5% of the ocean, we know more about outerspace than our own planet, and there are some unbelievably deep parts of the ocean. When you consider how most of our biggest marine animals are deep sea dwellers why would a Megalodon, a massive marine predator, come to the surface or shallow water at all since its most likely prey stays well below?
    Whether they're extinct or do indeed still exist, we'll likely never see one because they have no reason to come into shallow waters.

    it doesn't matter how much of the world's lands or ocean's we humans have descovered. all we know is that we still have loads of exploring to do and who knows what we will find next? it really is true that the earth brings us thing when we least expect them.

    Warm shallow water these things hunt in?! Fuck that thank goodness there extinct. I love warm shallow waters and i don't wanna get caught accidentally bumping into one.

    Don't tell me megladons are extinct. 75% of the ocean is unexplored. Birds have lived since the dinosaurs so so can megladons

    I Wish I Could Be Able To See One.
    But Then At The Same Time I Don't Want To, Cause They Would Swallow My Ass 😭😂😂

    There is no official "largest Great White" recorded. Also, if there was one, it'd be hella lot bigger than a measly 20 ft. Some of the largest were recorded 36-37 feet.

    Can people just stop arguing about if megalodon is real or not? Honestly though. It's annoying and some other people might not like it too. So like can y'all not argue. I'm fine if you comment your opinion as long as you aren't like hating on people that think the opposite. Also, if you see a comment that is the opposite of your opinion, just don't even bother commenting. It's not worth it.

    We totally confident that they're gone? PLEASE we haven't explored all the ocean yet there's still a chance don't sound so confident.

    Am I the only one getting really pissed that the size of the Megaladon (or other big shark) is always exaggerated in size, so that it's stupidly big? 😬

    I somehow doubt that you can say with certainty that the megaladon is completely extinct, we nearly have scratched surface of what is beneath our oceans mainly cause of water pressure crushing most mechanical devices at depths. Simply they could adapt to a deeper sea species or live by underground volcanoes for heat. You'd never know for a while to come
