  • Onion Petals 🧅 I don't know about you, but I love fried onions. I have an amazing onion ring recipe (I'll share my recipe for that another day ), but this is the cute twist people do on the blooming onion. A much less messy, easier deconstructed onion blossom that requires very little oil. It is absolutely delicious and complete with my version of the outback dipping sauce or a spicy zesty honey mustard sauce.
    1 large Vidalia onion
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon seasoned salt
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/2 teaspoon paprika
    1 cup buttermilk
    1 egg
Cut onion in half, and then each half in 4ths. Cut those sections in half again and separate the petals.
Put the onion in a ziplock bag with 1/3 of the flour mixture and toss.
Add the onion petals to the buttermilk egg mixture and then into the remaining flour mixture.
Heat up 1-2 inches of oil.
Fry at 350° F oil until golden brown. Place on paper towel to remove excess oil and set on a wire rack to cool. (This is so the petals stay crisp)
Dipping Sauce #1 My Version Of A Blooming Sauce:
    1/4 cup mayo
    2 tablespoons sour cream
    1 tablespoon Dijon
    1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 tablespoon ketchup
Dipping Sauce #2 Spicy Honey Mustard Sauce:
    2 tablespoons coarse Mustard
    1 tablespoon Dijon
    1 tablespoon hot honey
    1 1/2 teaspoon siracha
    1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
Turn on cc for subtitles! Thank you!
