Not the most advanced techniques or tools, but thumbs up anyway. ;-) I just got one of this outboard motors yesterday. No service manual or specs. Learned a lot about the internals of this motors from your video. Thanks for sharing.
Torn my outboard apart to clean/fix, etc. It's amazingly good BTW. But one word of advise for any trying the same stunt. Bring some flowers to your wife, after using the dishwasher to clean outboard parts... It's a good marriage test. :-) LOL
Yup totally broke down the whole thing, seeing those rod cap bearings floating around the block and seeing the burned side on last to remove piston tells me all i need to know it was junk to begin with!!still kinda cool to see complete tear down, course piston and crank could have been fixed or replaced and motor still salvaged but that wasnt the title.it wasnt a rebuild more or less autopsy, that was cool to see even that small a block had freeze plug in its side.💥👍👍👍🤪💥
There is a difference between a SOCKET and a WRENCH lol He seems so amazed and confused at the same time. I thank you for the tear down, Maybe next time you should tear it all down using a vise, put it all back together then film it again {Just so you know} Thanks :)
Lol at everyone commenting on this video about the brutality of the tear down. It's not intended to go back together so who cares?! Those of us who have a vested interest about the internal workings of an outboard were thoroughly entertained. As for myself, I learned a lot looking at how the components interact with each other. Thanks for posting!
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor Hello Peter, Do you intend to reassemble the engine or was it for parts only? I'm working on a 1972 Evinrude 4hp similar to yours but waiting for gaskets to arrive. Can't wait to see how it runs.
Love your videos. Have been very helpful. I think I have seen all the relevant vids on the morots I have. Do you know if can I put a complete powerhead from 1976 Johnson 4 HP (4R76M) on a 1978 model (4806E)?
I like seeing these vids of motors being torn apart, but dang. Have u ever dissasembled a motor before? Cause they way u do some of these things is way wrong and could damage the parts worse.
So the water tube goes from the pump up the shaft and just terminates against the side of that housing? How does the water return back down and blow out the exhaust? The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to make sure it's pumping water so I don't burn out the motor.
I have the same question now, can you see with this engine if the water pump is working when you are on the water? I don't think so right??? I think the water comes right down trough the shaft and goes out at the bottem so not at the top as with most outboard engines???
I enjoyed this video. Who was the fellow doing the job? His accent was pleasant and I was wondering where he was from or where this video was filmed. The crow cawing was a nice touch, as were the songbirds too. I'll check out more of your videos. Thanks, Terry
Tks Peter Finn, im looking for components to my jhonson 4hp, here in brazil its impossible, so, i saw this movie and thinked if somebody help me, but, tks for talk to me, peter.
What you are doing here with this vintage outboard motor has nothing to do with knowledge and experiance! I hope that nobody who starts fiixing those kind of engines is going to follow you! There are a lot videos online that are better!
okay, where on the net is better videos. need a great video for total dissemble and reassemble for a 1969 4 H.P. Johnson outboard boat motor . PLEASE give actual website address not merely "you tube da".
And now we have a pile of junk. If any one walked in my shop with hammers and crescent wrenches, and took apart an engine like that would be gone by lunch. Wha a hack
That was a one way trip for that outboard. His non directed approach will never get it back together... ever!
This is a good example of playing mechanic under the influence.

crpth1 I do the same... all started with using the oven cleaner foam from a dollar store.
very useful to see some of those disassembly steps. thanks for posting
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing this video. It was quite useful to see some of those disassembly steps.

Great !

Hello 😃, I have read your comment and I appreciate it. Thanks. 👍
yes, but if the disassembly had been done in order, we would have learned better and more
Wow! He is going to need a lot of crazy glue and duck tape to put that motor back together again! :-)
Hi, Thanks for comment. :-)

Thanks for the video it is useful but the outboard was in general good condition why not just fix it.
Good point!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful
You're welcome!
I think you made this video so you could put it back together, or perhaps you just needed a part from it?

I only saw the flywheel removal part - use a flywheel puller … I gave up at this point.
The nut will not go back on now.

Terry O'Brien Thank You for comments.
+Peter Finn +Terry O'Brien I agree! The bird calls were a really nice background to this video, quite relaxing :)
Peter Finn are you from Finland?
He sounds like he has a Hungarian accent to me but it says he is from Finland in his info.
@@SoundzAlive1 Interesting. Makes sense though, the languages are (distantly) related.
hello there.. what year is this motor from?? and do you remember the partnumber on the ignition coil??
Do you still have that gas tank...I'm looking for one.
Yes, I will look my warehouse
good job))))
Thank you! Cheers!
Omg, you're a butcher!
Ok Sir
morjes, oma kansi kuumenee liikaa, otin kannen auki, ja en löydä kuin yhden vesireiän yläkulmasta... kai siellä toinenkin pitää olla jos vesi kiertää.
keep on with it.
+robert payton Hi and many Thanks for feedback. :-)
Pete do you still have this motor?
Sorry... It is dead now.
Dam wanted too see if I could buy parts
