Most people tend to see Erwin as this great leader with lots of guts who knows how to achieve the impossible. But the real beauty of his character lies not in his charisma as a character but due to how human he is. Underneath the image of the great Commander of the Survey corps is nothing but a simple human being, selfish and flawed. Ever since his father died, his sole purpose in life was to find out the secrets of the world Erwin was in. For that simple goal, he was willing to sacrifice countless lives without any hesitation. Using his natural charisma and leadership qualities, Erwin manages to misguide his comrades into thinking they were devoting their hearts and everything to something great for the entire human race when it reality they were simply being used as tools for one man's desire.
But near the end of the operation to retake Wall Maria, Erwin is left with the choice of either abandoning his comrades to uncover the secrets in the basement that always wanted or attempt a last ditch effort to distract the Beast Titan in a suicidal attempt to give Levy the chance to take it out. This moment is what defined Erwin as a character. He sacrificed his lifelong goal just so all the people that died following him would finally have meaning in their struggle. In that moment, Erwin for the first and last time finally became the man he always pretended to be.
People stupidly compare Eren to Lelouch because of their self scapegoat plan but in reality it is Erwin who is more similar to Lelouch in terms of character. Zero at first was nothing more than a false image created by Lelouch to use the Japanese rebels as his pawns to utilize in to exact his vengeance on his father. But in the end of Code Geass, Lelouch truly becomes what the image of Zero had embodied through his actions.

This! This comment is so underrated. Erwin is my favorite character by far, his entire progression from being a kid who wanted to know the truth of the world to a man who gave up on his dreams to give humanity inside the wall a chance to be free is what made his character so great.

The only consoling thing for me about his unfortunate demise is the fact that he was able to keep eye on everything that happened and learn the truth after his death. If not in life than at least in death T_T

Actually it was “Apetitan” that played in S4. Originally it was created as the Beast Titan theme for S2. And then later on in was reconstructed into “Before Lights out”.
Season 3, in its entirety, cemented AoT as one of the greatest anime series of all time.
I agree with you there. The first season was good and all, but it was just Eren raging and killing every single titan. He kept screaming that every episode. It's good nonetheless. Season 2 made me think the series differently and made me read the manga. It was short, but so many background characters became important and some even antagonists. This was when the whole plot started developing. Season 3 was outstanding. More history about the titans and the first part was less titan killing action, which upset me a bit, but I was still sold. The second part is probably the climax of the series. That was when the plot began to surface more and more, adding the fact that Eren is a changed person from the first season. He's calm rather than impulsive and rash and a "suicidal maniac." The final season will be the ultimate climax of the series.
First half had some of the best animation put to TV, second half had some of the best story telling put to TV. GG

The fact the the green smoke signal was nothing but a morale booster for the charging Scouts, and serves no purpose other than to distract Zeke's attention away from Levi's flanking made Erwin and the greenies death charge plan so deep and impactful.

Imo, after revealing what is in the basement to the wall society, Erwin would actually lose all motivation. You see, it’s been very well established that his sole reason for having his insane, brilliant “gambler’s” mindset is because of his desperation for proving his father’s theory and being there to see it. I think that after proving his father’s theory, he would finally be crushed by the weight of his comrades deaths, comrades he himself had ordered to their deaths for the sake of a personal goal.
I mean, in the end, he just looked so damned tired, you know? In his eyes. I think that that final push was all he had left.
I absolutely adore Erwin as a character though, but everyone has their time.

Her killing Sasha was a tragedy of war and humanity failing to understand eachother, which is one of the major themes of the story (especially the Marley arc and beyond).
The girl just witnessed her friends murdered and her hometown destroyed, she made eye contact with Sasha, the sniper who was gunning down Marleyans. I don't blame her for what she did to Sasha, neither do the other characters at this point. Her character is an exact mirror to Eren's, showing that all of humanity is at fault. It's fitting that she was the one to uh... well I don't know how far you were into the manga. It's her comparison to Eren and her growth as she realises that everyone is a monster that I find so compelling.

THE defining Erwin moment for me will always be in season 2 when he's carried away by titans in the incident that ultimately loses him his arm. His complete lack of hesitation in repeating his order to "ADVANCE!" instantly made him one of my all time favorite characters. What an absolute fucking legend.

Erwin is one of the best written character i've seen for a while, if not the best. Not just because of his charisma, not just his intelligence, not just his goosebump inducing battle cry. But his will to sacrifice many things to achieve a goal, and this quality is not always positive.
He reminds me of people like Alexander the Great, Napoleon Bonaparte, Genghis Khan, hell, even Hitler in some parts.
Not because he is greedy or hateful, but because of his determination. He is a determined to achieve his _own_ goal.
He is obsessive of it. He cold bloodedly killed his own comrades to achieve that goal, he is really selfish in his own way, because he thinks that it's noble and right.
Though that doesn't mean he doesn't care about humanity behinds the walls, he does, it's just not always his top priority. But despite all of those things he has done, he finally sacrifice his life and his dreams for a better good, to humanity behind the walls.
When Erwin was motivating the soldiers for the last charge, man i literaly would have died for him in that moment...
