This anime does such a great job at showing you that you're always the good guys in your story, but to another's story, you're the demon. Everyone thinks they're the good guys, but are they really? Is everything really that black and white? No, it's not. It's such a good lesson to learn, as it relates to real life situations as well, such as WW1 among other examples. Such a compelling story with such an important life lesson as well. I've never seen an anime that captures this as well as this one. Attack on Titan will always, always, always have a place in my heart.
It will always be my favourite... It is perfection... Awesome art style, complex storyline, well designed characters, deep messages, perfect action scenes...and last but not least, the best soundtracks ever, they nail each and every one of them.
"but to another's story, you're the demon" Seems like you completely missed point of this story, yes its black and white in this example, they got attacked and they are forced to defend themselves. They are in fact heroes. I dont know why you are trying to moralize or talk about WW1 but its so easy to conclude obvious things from this show yet you missed it, wtf?
It is simply undeniable that AoT has the best, most exceptional, epic soundtrack ever. Sawano is truly not from this planet, god bless him for his AoT masterpiece work.

'Old man please, remember me.' This lyric make me so sad. Actually, when I first saw his death, I didn't have much feelings, because I thought he was just a villain. Even his monologue was thought to be justification. However, the feeling of returning to the scene after watching whole story until the end was completely different. He was just a little boy who wanted to save his sick father and eventually realized the nature of the world. One of the most underrated characters.. AoT is a true masterpiece.

The real villain in this story is the world itself and honestly that could be said about real life as well.
@@laeekkhan3177 That's not true at all, Bertholdt redeemed himself by the end, he is neither underrated nor overrated, if he had realized stuff earlier they would've won but he didn't. He is just a normal person striving for a better future.
For those of you who are saying bertholdt was weak, he wasn't, he entered the marleyan warrior program to give his family a better way of living, while he would undergo harsh training, he was even considered worthy to inherit the power of the colossal titan, sure he was brainwashed to believe eldians were evil, but he did his duty thinking he was doing the right thing, he fought bravely till the very end, you fought well young warrior.
Out of all the kids training betholdt tried the hardest because imagine being entrusted the power of the colossal as they mentioned A God of Destruction
Even if he was brainwashed by Marley to think that Eldians are devils, he doesn’t think like that. He doesn’t think that they did anything wrong, but neither did Marley do anything wrong. In his eyes, he has no other choice than to play the game of life. The world is a cruel place... This philosophy of his made him my favorite character of AoT.

Just my guess, but I believe the title of the song refers to Bertholdt in the idea that an apple seed seems completely harmless and rather innocent but truthfully contains cyanide. In the same way, Bertholdt is seemingly reluctant and gentle but when pushed is a truly deadly force, secretly containing a lethal power within. It could also refer to the Biblical parallels in Ymir and the Devil, with the power of the Titans given to the Eldians sometimes symbolized as an apple, the typical depiction of forbidden fruit. Thus, the apple seeds would be the powers of the Nine Titans. You could go deeper into it but that's just some surface level guessing.
I hadn't even considered the meaning behind it, but given the biblical parallels, I imagine the apple seed is the power to grow the apple tree: the knowledge of good and evil. That would refer to the power of the King in the context of AoT (the power trapped in Eren)
Cyanide is also known in history to be used as a poison, so it's a deadly assault basically. Mostly used in cases of traitory. Like a wife poisoning her husband.

@bryce No it's about Berthold that's why it says "love the smell of her hair" and "please old man remember me" that's Bert's father. Apple seed is a reference when Bert saw the man hang himself on the apple tree
1:57 “Like the Smell of her hair....” Man, I’m really sad that Bertholdt never got his wish of being with Annie. Makes me think of how even now in the Manga, things are just... 🥺
This song was meant for both Bertholdt and Marlowe. It applies to both of them. This was their last battle, and they wouldn’t see Annie or Hitch ever again after this.
All three, Reiner, Annie and Bertholdt were just crying children doing what they thought was right to save their families from Marley. They didn’t have a choice, they were sent to Paradise when the were Eren’s age (12)
It's even worse when you consider that Annie, Reiner and Bertolt are affected by the curse of Ymir. From the moment they were given the Titans, they only had 13 years left to live and that's without considering how Marley would probably bring their end much sooner by making them being eaten to pass on their Titan. Now imagine the pain of being in love with a girl, but too shy and with too little of self-esteem to try and talk to her, as you see the years pass and how you may never actually experience being in love with someone. With that in mind, those lyrics don't hit like a truck but like a train.
@Unity What hurts more is Marco didn't even know that shit men, he also begged to talk about this that hurts more for me, but I respect your opinion bro.
What makes it even sadder, is the fact that for a brief moment he smiles and is happy seeing the paradis crew, thinking that he is among the friends he made, when he was in fact being watched by the enemies he didn't want to have in the first place.
They had no choice too, if they went back to marley without fulfilling their mission, them and their families would be turned into pure titans. Aot is fucking sad
@Rafael Enriquez The volunteers may not have been conscripted but a lot of them had no choice for a better life for them and their families regardless. Everyone is starving/fighting for those handful of “Warrior” spots to earn honorary Marley citizenship for their families. They’re almost literally fighting to escape destitution/internment camps and be seen closer to human/to have human rights in their homeland. It’s really tragic. More credit to AoT for a wonderful and thoughtfully crafted world. It’s fascinating.

I can already tell attack on Titan season 4 will be my favorite anime season ever. Manga is already insane and when it gets animated with these types of soundtracks made by Sawano, it will be a masterpiece
@@lautarosuareznasisi1846 Misinterpretion, Yamamoto will have full control over the ost. They're going to use Sawano's previous works for s4 obviously. That's why he's still credited. Yamamoto is usually the successor to Sawano's work after he's done doing music for a project.
I found a lot of the lyrics actually very interesting, so here is my interpretation of them, (I think most of them are noticeable for anime onlys but this will likely include manga spoilers so be warned) "Our Mighty Fallen": The mighty Colossal Titan Falls (dies) this arc. "Begotten Power": Could be referring to how Reiner and Bert were told that Ymir got the titan power from a devil, or how the power is passed on. "Shoulder to Shoulder": referring to the camaraderie between Reiner and Bert most likely. "Duty chains us,": They don't fully want to go through with what they are doing but have to due to their duty to marley "Oldman, please remember me": could refer to the hanged old man, could refer to Grisha and Eren remembering his memories, or just a reference to their families. "All of us chase our dreams" Reference to how many characters in the series motives are dreams of some sort or could be a call back to "everyone is a slave to something" "Our demons haunt us": same as above, regret for their actions "Fighting for Seeds of our crown": Referring to their mission to steal the founding titan I would guess. "Death by Sundown": Bert died before seeing another day. "Steady we ride, Watching scenes playing out from our past" How calmly Bert used his powers while also how its against his old friends from the 104th and could also refer to Eren gaining some of his father's memories "Like the smell of her hair": possibly referring to Berts crush on Annie, "Needles broken" Referring to how a titan is made from a needle and how a decision was made to use one that ended up killing bert. "Should we just let it all fade, is it just time?": Likely referring to Berts resolve and/or his death So this is what I think are the meanings, tell me if you guys think I am wrong or missed something.
SPOILERS! Maybe that “should we all fade” part is referring to zeke’s euthanasia plan since if it goes through in less than 100 years all eldians will be dead
I love how the lyrics are very open to interpretation. Here is mine: "our mighty fallen begotten power shoulder to shoulder never surrender" Is about how the Eldian empire failed and how many of the titan's powers are in the hands of the enemy but Eldia keeps fighting for their freedom. "apples drop beside the tree old man, please remember me and all of us still chase our dream underneath the canopy" I think this is about Erwin. The apple is the idea he had the one his father gave him which turned into a dream to prove that his father was right. He's holding onto it no matter the price or the hardship he has to go through. "steady we ride silhouette flying over the grass as the daylight now dies our stallions breathing their last duty chain us our demons haunt us fighting for seeds of our crown death by sundown" I think this is about Marlo. How he rides to his death knowingly because it is his duty. The demons are his fear and hesitation. "Fighting for seeds of our crown," I think this harkens back to Erwin how everyone fought for his dream. "steady we ride watching scenes playing out from our past like the smell of her hair those time always fly by so fast needless broken the feeling's woken should we just let it all fade is it just time.." Obviously Berthuroto. Before he decides to fight he looks into himself and he finally gets the motivation to finish his mission. Of course, he's still longing for the past and wishes he could change it and save Annie but he is ready. "should we just let it all fade is it just time.." this could be interpreted in 2 ways: -Berthold finally lets hold of his shy nature the only thing that held him back -Berthold finally sees that not everyone is a devil and lets go of his hatred of the eldians.
Damn, every time I listen to AOT's OST, I say to myself, "If they come to call Sawano Hiroyuki for the OST of the Hollywood live action movie, they will have already won over 50% of the fans" ... I hope with all my heart that he will participate in the project !!
I hope they'll never do the live-action movie. Every anime/manga that is adapted as a live-action movie is destined to be a total failure. AoT/SnK is already a masterpiece, just don't touch it.
@@supidowagon6174 "Every anime/manga that is adapted as a live-action movie is destined to be a total failure." But for what ? Attack on Titan has everything to become a hit in live action movie. That's exactly who the old man is a reference to. Bertholdt and Reiner assumed the old man's story as part of their cover story to infiltrate Paradis and slip into the Eldian Scouts unnoticed.

The face of berthold and Reiner. Do you really think they wanted to kill the paradisians? Do you really think they thought paradisians as devil?? HELL no, they were just trapped inside a maze and they didn't know how to exit.
Annie and Reiner knew what they were doing. He even told Jean the truth about Marco and got beat the tooth out of him the same way Annie did to him all those years ago as a kid.
Same with Eren and the Jaegerists; Backed into a corner with the entire world against them, no time, and seemingly no options other than to commit atrocities of their own. I don’t really agree with them, but I do sympathize with them. Their actions are totally understandable, arguably even justified, but not right.
4:51 i think "should we just let it all fade, is it just time" is the thought of them leaving their life in marley and their attack on the walls behind and living in paradis. People always cry around about how they didnt just "switch sides", but they wanted to protect their families and their life in marley too. If they told paradis about marley, noone would believe them and if they made a counter attack they would literally destroy their own home. I feel so bad for them.
The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it. 13 years and you're dead anyway

R.I.P. Berthold Hoover
I love how Reiner and Bertholdt look on the poster. Both feel the guilt and are ashamed because they betrayed their friends. But both look scared of Marley. How can a sketch be so detailed?
I like to imagine it as them in fear of the scouts, the consequences of their actions have finally caught up to them, lying for years about who they are, befriending the "Devils" of Paradis when they know deep down they caused this mess in the first place, so the scouts are right to hate them but they have no other choice but to fight back to survive. Being hunted down by their former friends must be depressing.
There is always something that the writer of Attack on Titan shows you every single time. It's on every season of the anime and that's called "world cruelty." There isn't one time Hajime Isayama didn't notify the audience of how cruel the world is. This should show you how he thinks because this story that he wrote, isn't just something made by paper and pencil. This story has passion, experience, thoughts, life choices, and etc. If you ever thought of how Hajime Isayama is as a person really, then pay attention to what he writes because once a person begins his story; then that's when, his mind opens up to his emotions. It's like a doorway that connects both heart and soul. That's how a true writer writes his/her story.
Yeah, the more we observe, the more we realize just how cruel this world really is. Just observe this with climate change in the future. Millions will die, and there is nothing much we could do.
Bertholdt is such an underrated character. It pisses me of so much watching people who don't get the situation him and Reiner are in and just term them as villains. Cmon, it's Attack on Titan, it's not that simple. I've only seen a few people who understand how they and Annie feel because most people don't pay attention to the lines Bertholdt says during his final transformation, "I feel like, no matter how all this plays out, I can accept whatever happens. That's right, nobody's in the wrong. There's nothing we could do. Because this world...is just...that cruel."
I mean, they are still villains, it doesn’t matter what the situation is, if you’re willing to murder an entire civilization because your bosses want you too, you’re fucked up. At least eren had a reason for being a monster, the entire world is against him and his people.
vaniwa And That his family would have been killed by Marley if he didn’t. No one would sacrifice their family for anyone, that’s the truth. Anyone saying otherwise are liars or orphans
Bertholt really had no choice to continue with his objective, while Reiner was experiencing his split personality disorder Bert and Annie were truly trying their best to dissociate themselves from the cadets & respective military force but at the end of the day they did feel sympathy for the island devils. That’s what makes it really tragic for me especially for Bert.

And an apple seed grows into a giant tree, like a human turning into a titan.

So did you change your mind based on mappa's animation? I hope you didn't...
I found a lot of the lyrics actually very interesting, so here is my interpretation of them, (I think most of them are noticeable for anime onlys but this will likely include manga spoilers so be warned)
"Our Mighty Fallen": The mighty Colossal Titan Falls (dies) this arc.
"Begotten Power": Could be referring to how Reiner and Bert were told that Ymir got the titan power from a devil, or how the power is passed on.
"Shoulder to Shoulder": referring to the camaraderie between Reiner and Bert most likely.
"Duty chains us,": They don't fully want to go through with what they are doing but have to due to their duty to marley
"Oldman, please remember me": could refer to the hanged old man, could refer to Grisha and Eren remembering his memories, or just a reference to their families.
"All of us chase our dreams" Reference to how many characters in the series motives are dreams of some sort or could be a call back to "everyone is a slave to something"
"Our demons haunt us": same as above, regret for their actions
"Fighting for Seeds of our crown": Referring to their mission to steal the founding titan I would guess.
"Death by Sundown": Bert died before seeing another day.
"Steady we ride, Watching scenes playing out from our past" How calmly Bert used his powers while also how its against his old friends from the 104th and could also refer to Eren gaining some of his father's memories
"Like the smell of her hair": possibly referring to Berts crush on Annie,
"Needles broken" Referring to how a titan is made from a needle and how a decision was made to use one that ended up killing bert.
"Should we just let it all fade, is it just time?": Likely referring to Berts resolve and/or his death
So this is what I think are the meanings, tell me if you guys think I am wrong or missed something.
bornfromfire 9 Very well written 👌
old man is just about Bert's dad
Our mighty fallen referred to Great Eldia I thought
SPOILERS!
Maybe that “should we all fade” part is referring to zeke’s euthanasia plan since if it goes through in less than 100 years all eldians will be dead
I love how the lyrics are very open to interpretation.
Here is mine:
"our mighty fallen
begotten power
shoulder to shoulder
never surrender"
Is about how the Eldian empire failed and how many of the titan's powers are in the hands of the enemy but Eldia keeps fighting for their freedom.
"apples drop beside the tree
old man, please remember me
and all of us still chase our dream
underneath the canopy"
I think this is about Erwin. The apple is the idea he had the one his father gave him which turned into a dream to prove that his father was right. He's holding onto it no matter the price or the hardship he has to go through.
"steady we ride
silhouette flying over the grass
as the daylight now dies
our stallions breathing their last duty chain us
our demons haunt us
fighting for seeds of our crown
death by sundown"
I think this is about Marlo. How he rides to his death knowingly because it is his duty. The demons are his fear and hesitation. "Fighting for seeds of our crown," I think this harkens back to Erwin how everyone fought for his dream.
"steady we ride
watching scenes playing out from our past
like the smell of her hair
those time always fly by so fast
needless broken
the feeling's woken
should we just let it all fade
is it just time.."
Obviously Berthuroto. Before he decides to fight he looks into himself and he finally gets the motivation to finish his mission. Of course, he's still longing for the past and wishes he could change it and save Annie but he is ready. "should we just let it all fade is it just time.." this could be interpreted in 2 ways:
-Berthold finally lets hold of his shy nature the only thing that held him back
-Berthold finally sees that not everyone is a devil and lets go of his hatred of the eldians.

Western characters (except Mikasa), an era create from scratch but with an old Western architecture, correct names that is closer to Western than Japanese names, a brilliant and mature scenario... Far from a Dragon Ball... or a Ghost in the Shell, Kite, Death Note ..... who were all very Japanese. And then, just see the Japanese adaptation of AOT...

So Yams had a really cruel experience with this world?
TG 125 not what I’m saying, try again have a open mind bro
This world, this world truly is a cruel place. There's nothing anyone could do.
Yeah, the more we observe, the more we realize just how cruel this world really is. Just observe this with climate change in the future. Millions will die, and there is nothing much we could do.
What a tragic character Bertholtd is. WHAT A SHOW.
Bertholdt is such an underrated character. It pisses me of so much watching people who don't get the situation him and Reiner are in and just term them as villains. Cmon, it's Attack on Titan, it's not that simple. I've only seen a few people who understand how they and Annie feel because most people don't pay attention to the lines Bertholdt says during his final transformation,
"I feel like, no matter how all this plays out, I can accept whatever happens. That's right, nobody's in the wrong. There's nothing we could do. Because this world...is just...that cruel."
