This kind of makes me sad because people around here complain that squirrels are eating their tomatoes. Obviously squirrels do not love tomatoes. So therefore if they are eating them, they are very hungry! Feed your neighborhood squirrels and they will not bother your tomatoes!
I loved this! They stare at those large funny looking red nuts, then look at you like you're nuts. Silly little squirrels use the bush like kids in a bouncy castle full of balls, so funny!😂 All my best!😊❤
I noticed when squirrels find something good or seem to be enjoying eating something, birds will sometimes land nearby to try to get the leftovers.... sometimes a lot of birds with a few trying to chase off the squirrel to get them to drop it for them. 😂
I've also noticed that birds like to hang around squirrels to see if they can get some of their food, but I haven't seen any birds trying to chase off the squirrels. But the blue-jays are also helping the squirrels with warning them and even chasing away the hawks, so it's good for them to be around each other. 😊🐿️🐦
I had to laugh, how he made it known he did Not approve tomatoes as food, he even knocked the tomato over the edge.There goes a beautiful wasted tomatoe, that Human's could eat. the Squirrel's are so Cute

This was too cute!! When I lived in the city, an abandoned bunny showed up in my driveway one day. I took him in to foster him until I could find him a permanent home (as I could not keep him). I quickly learned that one of his favorite foods was tomatoes. He loved them except he never ate the skin. He peeled his tomatoes 😂

Blue Jays don't get enough credit for their leadership. I've never seen them "bully" anyone but predators - cats and hawks. Otherwise they wait patiently for smaller birds or a squirrel to finish eating before they take a turn, and always sound the alarm when danger is afoot. They are the ornithological men in blue 💙
I feed squirrels in the park and they have the same reaction to cherry tomatoes :) There are a few who really enjoy them while the majority it is a pass on tomatoes even if they are supposed to be good for them .

City squirrels 😊. My sister-in-law planted a small garden of grape tomatoes and some squirrels loved to ransack it, although most preferred seeds from the bird feeder or the peanuts I always left them on my window 😁.

My rescued squirrel Mrs Daisy loves tomatoes 🍅 but they have to be the small cherry tomatoes, she also likes her avocados 🥑 but I must say her absolute favorite veggie is (sweet sugar snap peas) she will eat them like she hasn’t eaten in a while, lol 😂 I try to get as much veggies in her as possible because she is an indoor squirrel 🐿 and she definitely needs all the nutrients she can get. I also get her Henry blocks, as well as a couple different supplements that we buy off Amazon, they have all the nutrients that squirrels 🐿 need, unfortunately they are a little on the pricey side, but anything for my spoiled big girl. We also feed the wild squirrels 🐿 in our backyard, they however also don’t like veggies, they just want the good stuff like the peanuts, 🥜 and other mixed nuts 🥜 we have them spoiled as well and they all know where to go for the food!! 😂 Thanks so much for caring for our wild little furry friends!! 🙏😊 They need love too. ❤

So far my wild squirrels don't care for much else besides nuts and few fruits, but I'm going to continue to try new vegetables and fruits to see if they may like/need any, to add to their diet. 🐿️
I always feed the squirrels shelled walnuts unsalted they love them I throw them a handful and they sit there and they eat them all once I got one to eat a pumpkin munchkin Donut from Dunkin' Donuts he really liked that LOL me too.

Animals are often more picky eaters than us humans - as long as food supply is ample at least. It's a good survival instinct to have to prefer what you know is safe. They often need a lot of time to get used to something new they havent eaten before. If you leave one tomato in with the usual food they will figure it out eventually, and just like kids they can suddenly switch completely from skepticism to loving it once they have tried some :P Adding a little food variety that they cant usually find by themselves is great enrichment I think - as long as you are careful to research that it's safe for them.

I had a similar reaction the first year my parents added an orange to my Christmas stocking. Looks like you posted this a few months back. Have the squirrels learned to enjoy tomatoes yet? If not, I wonder what would happen if you split the tomato. That way the smell and sweetness would be right on top at the surface.

The proximity of the road is freaking me out. I love squirrels and have the privilege to see them and feed them in my garden every day. Sadly, they’re scared of humans.
I had a mouse who would go bonkers for tomatoes. He was a wild mouse I found on the sidewalk near our front door one day coming home from school. It was severely injured by an animal. I managed to nurse it back to health. It helped that I volunteered work at a vet clinic. One day I gave it a piece of tomato, and the mouse went to town on it. That's how I discovered that the mouse loved tomato.
Guess if all you eat is crunchy salty stuff, something squishy and sour would be weirdly offputting. Can't say I've seen squirrels share before though, that's neat!
Were I live - The Isle of Man, In the Irish Sea off The UK - We don't have ANY Squirrels. Actually we don't have quite a lot of other wild animals that are common in the rest of the world ; But I really miss the Squirrels Most!

Love your squirrel friends. 🍅 Tomatoes from a garden maybe.... Tomatoes from conventional means may not be attractive as the aren't ripened naturally necessarily, don't have the right sugar content for flavor, nor do they smell good. Ripened with ethylene gas. They've got good sense not to eat them. 🐿
This is the first video on this channel I'm seeing so my questions are: have you tried a variety of nuts (pecans, walnuts, peanuts, cashews, Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, almonds, etc)? What about cheek storage capacity? Place a fairly sizeable amount of their favorites on the window ledge and see who can pack off the most (don't forget to count them before and after each squirrel arrives).
I tried all the nuts you mentioned and they like all of them, but the ones I feed them the most are almonds, walnuts, peanuts and unshelled (in-shell) dry roasted peanuts. Most of the squirrels can hold 2-3 almonds in their mouth, with the exception of one squirrel called Feefee, who can hold 5-6 almonds. Also I've been trying to see what fruits and vegetables they may like, and so far they like grapes, cherries and blueberries, and they don't like tomatoes avocados, bananas, apples, pears, strawberries, raspberries or carrots. This is as a majority, but each squirrel has its own preferences, so some of them ate some of those fruits and vegetables I mentioned. 😊🐿️
My squirrel loves tomatoes, watermelons, green beans, red and orange peppers and grapes, but the squirrels out side won't eat them. Very odd... but your little squirrel stomps the foot like you know what I want hahaha..

Isn't red in nature often a sign of "this is dangerous, don't try to eat!"? I wonder if the color adds to their hesitation.
There may be some truth to this, because once I had a red colored lid on the window sill and they seemed to be scared by it.
Never had a problem with gray squirrels stealing my tomatoes. Now chipmunks and groundhogs were a whole other story!
But I hope you're not upset with the chipmunks and groundhogs, you can take it as a compliment, they really liked the tomatoes you grew. 😊

We grew Cherry Tomatoes! The squirrels nibbled on those that were still green!

Lol, it's barely 5 feet to the ground, but squirrels can survive falls from very high up.

Guess if all you eat is crunchy salty stuff, something squishy and sour would be weirdly offputting. Can't say I've seen squirrels share before though, that's neat!

Were I live - The Isle of Man, In the Irish Sea off The UK - We don't have ANY Squirrels. Actually we don't have quite a lot of other wild animals that are common in the rest of the world ; But I really miss the Squirrels Most!
They probaly didnt see nothing like that before 😂why they not eating probaly because the color and the shape of them keep up the good work with the videos

Amazing! U can tell their difference name by name. My squirrel love a tomato. Maybe u can give them a half cut too from new fruit / or food. N they can smell the sweet thing from fruit. I usually feed mine, many fruits. 👋🐿️❣️

Tomatoes are supposed to be good for us and the squirrels, but each one of them has their own preferences, just like us. I also like tomatoes 😊🍅
Love your squirrel friends. 🍅 Tomatoes from a garden maybe.... Tomatoes from conventional means may not be attractive as the aren't ripened naturally necessarily, don't have the right sugar content for flavor, nor do they smell good. Ripened with ethylene gas. They've got good sense not to eat them. 🐿
Tomatoes were a failure with mine. Grapes sometimes pleased.
Grey squirrels used to eat my mom's tomatoes on the vine. She was always complaining about it.
I think is only fair to share our food with animals/wildlife, because we destroyed their habitat when we built our houses.
This is the first video on this channel I'm seeing so my questions are: have you tried a variety of nuts (pecans, walnuts, peanuts, cashews, Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, almonds, etc)? What about cheek storage capacity? Place a fairly sizeable amount of their favorites on the window ledge and see who can pack off the most (don't forget to count them before and after each squirrel arrives).
I tried all the nuts you mentioned and they like all of them, but the ones I feed them the most are almonds, walnuts, peanuts and unshelled (in-shell) dry roasted peanuts. Most of the squirrels can hold 2-3 almonds in their mouth, with the exception of one squirrel called Feefee, who can hold 5-6 almonds. Also I've been trying to see what fruits and vegetables they may like, and so far they like grapes, cherries and blueberries, and they don't like tomatoes avocados, bananas, apples, pears, strawberries, raspberries or carrots. This is as a majority, but each squirrel has its own preferences, so some of them ate some of those fruits and vegetables I mentioned. 😊🐿️

My squirrel loves tomatoes, watermelons, green beans, red and orange peppers and grapes, but the squirrels out side won't eat them. Very odd... but your little squirrel stomps the foot like you know what I want hahaha..
