Great info. I live in Hawaii and think it might be worth to get the reserve card just for the companion ticket. The cost of the annual fee is still cheaper than paying full price for a first class ticket to Orlando
Thank you Don! Just remember that the companion ticket is available after you renew the card for a following year. And yes, it is a very valuable benefit to have.
Ive had more trouble than its worth trying to use these companion certificates so be careful not to let this sway your decision. There are a TON of loopholes and terms that make these companion passes hard to use in any practical fashion.
I booked a ticket for myself and my husband in February. He is not able to go anymore due to work and I want to switch my companion but sounds like I am going to just loose out on my companion pass 😢even though my trip is in May!
Hello and thanks for the video. Question - is it only one companion certificate/flight per year? Or can you book multiple flights annually (after the first) and use the certificate for each time you travel - and pay for one ticket - in that calendar/card renewal year. Thanks.
If you use the companion pass and are a Platinum or Diamond Medallion member, do you know if you can book Main Cabin and upgrade both tickets to Comfort + after the booking is complete?
I guess that it is a possibility if there is room on the flight. I will see what I can find out and get back to you soon. Thanks for watching the video!
Thanks for the comment, I am just stating exactly what the Amex website said at the time I made this video, It may well have changed by now as that was in April.
@@dannyshep no problem, your video did help me. It is hard to figure out how to use those certificates. I just paniced when I heard the 3 night thing. Because I already had a 2 night hotel stay booked.
I’m trying to figure out if I can be my own companion. Meaning, can I be both travelers? This way I can use my companion pass and have a window and middle seat.
It is available to you once you renew your card for the following year, so it takes approximatley 12 months of card ownership before you can get your first Companion Certificate.
Thank you for the details sir! Very helpful in choosing which card to sign up for. Bummer the Compainion Certs are only good for the lower 48. Are they good for a whole year from card renewal or just a few months?
If you go to book a flight it will show you what available classes can be used for that flight, for some flights you will not be able to use the companion certificate. Its just another hurdle you need to keep in mind if you are wanting to use the Companion ticket for a flight.
Where can I find a video on Fare Classes? I don’t really understand that.

So the companion pass is only for one flight per year?
Yes that is correct
Thank you. I thought it was like the southwest companion pass. Thank god i saw this video before i applied.

Thats no good, I would call up Amex and see if they can help you out in anyway possible.
this video was super helpful!
Thank you for watching it and commenting! I appreciate it

Yes it is only one companion certificate each year.
And it lasts for one full year, after that, a new companion certificate will be issued.
@@dannyshep Ok, thank you for clarifying. And for the quick reply.

Can I book the flight through a 3rd party like Expedia? Or does it have to be through deltas website?
It has to be directly with Delta
I just booked a companion ticket with a 2 night stay. The 3 night rule stated in the video is incorrect.

Can the main cabin companion ticket be upgraded to first class with miles or money?
I believe so, but you will need to be a Delta SkyMiles member or Medallion member

Im not 100% sure if this is possible as I don't think you can book yourself on a flight twice.
I will looking it and let you know
I just got the platinum, how do we get the certificate? Does it pop up on our amx/ delta acc?

Any time! Thank you for watching the video!
Hi cool thanks for the info
No problems!

Thank you! there will be a date on the front of certificate that it must be used by, and this is usually no more than 12 months in length.
I don't even know what the different classes are....
