      @Cyan Is Sus Maybe not. DDR4 came into the market during the stagnant Intel dominant years so obviously it took a longer time to gain momentum due to there not being much point in upgrading your platform with so little CPU gains generation to generation. With Ryzen AMD has smashed that equation.The current situation is basically a throwback to the early 90s where you could change computer every 2nd year and basically expect 50% or more performance gain each time.

    • @tma2001
      @tma2001 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slimcharles1479 I wish I knew more about what's involved - I don't understand why they failed to match TSMC. I remember some excuse they gave about being too aggressive with their goals for 10nm but didn't they do a pilot first to figure all this out and then dial back ?
      And don't they all use the same fab machines from that Dutch company anyway ? (I forget their name but they were banned from exporting to the Chinese recently ...).

    • @slimcharles1479
      @slimcharles1479 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tma2001 Yea I think most fabs use machines from ASML. Not sure if Canon and Nikon can provide gear for whole fabs, but they also build some of the lower tier machines. I guess it's just a highly specialized industry, where everyone sticks to their niche to keep worker education requirements and risk low. And when you insist on doing both steps of the process to stay autonomous, a problems of one step will be felt at the other step as they depend on each other.
      I guess we can only speculate what exactly went wrong for Intel. But from what I've read, it must be their SuperFin transistors, or their general attempt to innovate FinFET. TSMC is conservative in that regard, sticking to what technology proves reliable and low risk, while Intel tried to innovate and ran into problems. Who knows, maybe Intel will make a comeback if they can pull SuperFin off at a reasonable cost. But the second I hear Super, I just assume it's for marketing.

    Excellent review and summary guys. I had a chat with a friend who is a security engineer. There is a large amount of hatred for Intel right now in tech related industries as it is felt they literally held other business and industries in the world back by not increasing CPU cores when they clearly could have at any time as they did once AMD caught them flat footed and did so before them. This while gouging them all with high prices. Many view this as a proper karmic comeuppance for Intel and he told me nobody in tech believes Intel will ever catch AMD now or possibly ever again if Zen 4 surpassed them and it is expected that they will.

    I was split between 5600X/5800X for gaming with 6800XT or 3080 (I know, latter is not really a choice, or a better one) but looks like 5600X is going to be enough for sure.

      Wait a while if you can for 5600 which is going to be cheap and will hold the crown and if you are going to choose AMD for cpu then obvious choice is 6800XT to use rage mode and other stuff that comes with zen3

    Yesterday I was ready to pull the trigger on a ryzen 3600 build to finally replace my fx-6350 from 2012 which bottlenecks almost any modern gpu pretty hard. Ryzen 5000 would appear to be worth waiting a little longer for though!

    For all us Canadians who purchased the 3800X for $397 on Amazon Prime day vs. the 5600X retailing for $400-430. Which is the better value for the money what should we keep? Especially when considering next gen titles that will hopefully take advantage of more threads. I just want to be 100% sure since shelling out $400+ is a good chunk of change especially with the state of things.

    I'm so torn on what to do, yes I'm aware I could probably get one cheaper online (maybe), but my current pc is an Intel 4460 and I'm looking at a store bought 3600 for like $250 Canadian or a 5600x for basically $500. After you delved into the architecture part though I'm almost convinced to just bite the bullet and get the 5600x.

    One thing has been noticed is amd has now showing minimal boost clock speeds (instead of old way with 3000 and older where "when the stars align" it might hit single core clock boost witch was 99% of the time never) the 5000 cpus listed boost clock is single is the minimum guaranteed single core boost (but may in fact boost 100-400mhz higher then what is stated in the box, some 5950x are actually doing over 5ghz on single threaded loads)
    The single 8 core ccx design seem to be paying off as its completely removed the latency penalty in the 5800x (but even in the 2ccx in the 5900x and 5950x the 2x ccx seems to not be slowed down at all even with the L3 sync latency penalty, I guess because the 32mb L3 cache is so big its actually managing to hide the latency) that was in the 3000 and especially in the 2000 and 1000 cpus (1st and 2nd uses 2 cycle per AVX work, 3000 and higher uses 1 cycle per AVX load, if your buying ryzen 3000 is the minimum you should buy)
