The charts, numbers, and summary are all still correct, but if I say "the 5900X is x% faster than the 10900K/3900X" what I meant to say is "the 10900K/3900X is x% slower than the 5900X". All my percentage-difference calculations were relative to the 5900X, but you can't just swap those values like I did. Apologies for any confusion, I realized this WAY too late to fix it. 😅
You are lucky to get pc components at launch, i on the other hand i cant upgrade my system easily though they are in stock on amazon This pandemic is becoming worse and its making things difficult

@Warm Soft Kitty the thing is that the majority of people do play at 1080p though. At least according to the steam hardware survey last i checked, it's also to the point where it's meaningfully better even at 1440p vs 2000 series. (i play at 1080/1440p and have been for a while. depends on my performance in 1440p. I love my eyecandy)

I tried ordering from AMD's website and never got past the screen where you enter your payment information, page either spit back an error message or went back to the main page listing all the new 5000 cpus. Sad they had to copy nvidia and release the cpus with only a handful for availability.
I mean that's like saying "Just imagine AMD charging $4000 for a processor with only 2.9Ghz only a couple years ago". Doesn't really tell the whole story

I was 6th in line at micro center for a 5900x, didn't really have anything better to do than refresh youtube for the reviews, and Paul's Hardware was the first video to show up in my subscriptions. I can now confirm that the CPU holds up to what they reviews are saying. I'm getting a lot better FPS, my temperatures remain cool, and the 12 cores I have access to run great on my rendering software!

The only time in the last 10 or so years or so I've used a stock cooler is while waiting for an after market one to arrive (or to have the budget to add it later). The ones AMD ship though are actually rather decent, they make the Intel ones look shit. Because they are.
Thanks for including MS Flight Simulator in the benchmarks. It's a title that I was hoping would see a significant performance uplift since it seems to be so CPU bound, and I haven't seen anybody else include it yet.
I use my system for gaming and streaming, will pair my 5900x with 3080 and use NVENC (NEW) for streaming. Which RYZEN MASTER setting should I use? Gaming or Content creators? Also what's a good starting point for manual overclock? Thanks!
Buy used 2600 or 3300X. Market is going to be flooded with cheap Zen2 and especially Zen+ chips. They have enough performance to keep you up until you get your chip.
2020 is a good year to build my first computer. What would be the ideal build with a budget of 1300-1000 canadian dollars? That Ryzen 5 5600x looks like a good deal. 👍🏻

Are you using PBO for all these tests? If so, it'd only be fair to remove TDP locks on the Intel chip, as those are the roughly equivalent features that fall short of manual overclocks.
Paul can you make a "racing games benchmark"? Like 1080p single screeen, 1080p triple screen for iRacing, Assetto corsa, Assetto corsa competizione, RF2, AM2? Would be a nice niche for benchmarks....plz do it ;)

Hi Paul. Micro Center in Fairfax Virginia is only selling the Ryzen 5000 series CPU's in store (10* available of each per website). Glad to see and seems to be an excellent solution to avoid scalping as much as possible. I wonder if they will do the same for the RX 6000 series GPU launch?

@@KAKUN_DESU if you dont play esports game you do not need more than 60 in normal games so who cares about oc 90% of people play with stock cpu. And 10900k without 4000mhz+ mem cant beat zen 3 even at 5.3ghz most of people will go with 3200 or 3600 memory and you can oc both and put 10900k at 5.3 ghz with ring bus at 5.0 and zen will still be on top , if you oc your ram at 4mhz+ yes and ring bus at 5.0 yes you are faster in some games, in amd optimized games you will be still far back.
@@KAKUN_DESU ok, very good you oc and who cares? 90% of people dont care so, mots people dont need more than 60 fps because they are not hardcore gamers :)) , just esports players need 300+ fpst and 144hz monitor 1ms so i talked with a lot of people so that is the reality. Just because you need all the performance it doesnt mean all people need it.
@@KAKUN_DESU fyi there are boards that auto switch allowing the ryzen to have higher clocks in single core when needed and slighlty lower across all cores when needed.

Had a feeling this was going tonhapen so now question is do i wait it out being i need a board too for build or do i just get 570 board and 3000 series and use till market stablizes Just figured i would get 5000 series with new navi card to take advantage of boost but seems to be a harder mission then planned. Because of Paul’s Hardware, I was able to buy a 5600x this morning using an affiliate link from twitter. Otherwise, it was sold out on Amd and Newegg and I couldn’t find it on Amazon myself. I liked this video because you actually had Esports titles like LOL and CSGO where we saw 19+% improvements and those were on High settings (so possibly more if going to Low for max FPS).
Why all gaming benchmarks ATE only 1080p? Where are 4K tests? On TH-cam there are a lot of tests and all are only 1080p... So its mean there are some isuues on 4k and its hiden?
At higher resolutions the CPU becomes less relevant and the performance is usually more dependent on the GPU, so you aren’t really benchmarking the CPU. But at lower resolutions like 1080p you make the performance more dependent on the CPU, which means you are actually benchmarking the CPUs, they will usually be the bottleneck.
test a CPU in gaming using 4k, is like testing a Ferrari in a narrow road, while a truck is just ahead and don´t let the Ferrari pass. You can pretty much have a beetle in the same situation, running at the same speed.
10900k---Best Bench: 108% Base clock 3.7 GHz, turbo 5.25 GHz (avg). 540$ 5900x-----Best Bench: 107% Base clock 3.7 GHz, turbo 4.85 GHz (avg). 550$ Finally AMD is competitive, it was about a time... Good news for us customers.

@SCuMpZ well, next year AMD will either release Zen3+ or go straight to 5nm anyway, they'll probably release a refresh of zen3 just to stay ahead of Intel
Actually Intel's price to performance and power consumption ratios are still overpriced if compared to AMD 5000 series processors. So Intel is still not for poor people, Intel is for fanboys and people who don't know that they're being ripped off.
One thing to think about, MoBo cost between the two platforms. Just doing a quick check on Newegg, the AMD setup (CPU+MoBo) was about $100 cheaper than the Intel. I took the CPU prices and added them to the highest price MoBo (sold on Newegg only) from each platform. AMD 5900x ; Intel 10900k Side note the AMD CPU are "sold out" at the time of this comment.

Why are all of you tech guys having trouble with low frame rates for MS Flight Simulator? I'm getting 60+ fps (1080p) with my liquid cooled 3900x and 5700xt (32gb of ram.)
As someone who bought a 10900kf a few months ago, this is absolutely fantastic news. Competition only benefits the consumer. Might make intel finally get their new chips to market. Don’t care who wins, just happy that everyone has access to this level of performance
I got my ryzen 9 5900x from Scan in the UK, should be delivered tomorrow, upgrading from 3600XT. I hope my nzxt kraken x62 will be able to cool it and allow for some overclocking headroom. I am using a 4k 120hz monitor and felt like 3600xt actually bottlenecks even in games like battlefield V as it reaches 80%+ utilization and my RTX 3080 utilization is around 80-90%
Paul, when you get 5800x, PLEASE do gaming performance comparison of 5800x vs 3900x I think, given their matching price points, many people, including myself, will be considering which 1 to get. So i'm very curious to see how they compare in game performance. Thanks!

Hey Paul, just wanted to ask how does the price to performance change if we bought one of the i9 10850k at $429 since they went on sale. Does it make it a better value or do they even out.
Considering that most people who by Intel K-series CPU's will overclock them, a BETTER gaming comparison would be the 5900X(PBO) vs Intel CPU's with an all core overclock to at least 5.0Ghz. Would be nice to see several of those if possible, ie how the 5900X(PBO) compares in games to a 10900K, 10700K, 10600K, 9900K, 9700K, and 8700K, all at 5.0Ghz.
So someone like me who is planning to stream and game at the same time should be looking for a Ryzen 5900x and a RTX 3080? Also, what cooling system do you recommend as well as Ram? I actually want the best performance for game/streaming so I can compete professionally in Apex Legends. Thank you for the video.
This is a first, Amazon.co.uk don't seem to even have listings for the 5000 series processors... or perhaps they had and they sold out so fast that the landing pages were removed lol.
So, I have a dumb (maybe) question. I am currently using a basic Ryzen 3600 on an x570 motherboard. I built my PC with the idea to upgrade it down the road. Can I pre-flash a new BIOS in preparation for getting a 5800x or better and the computer still work fine? I have never updated a motherboard BIOS for so, it's one of the few computer build aspects I have very limited knowledge about. Thanks for any help from Paul and/or the comments.
The Ryzen 9 5900x is beating the 10900K and that's on an RTX 3080, so without SAM and Rage Mode. SAM I think is a fair comparison for standard Benchmark testing as it's native to the AMD CPU/GPU combo, but Rage Mode could be considered overclocking and not fair head to head comparisons.

It's a bad thing that launch price of 5900X is $50 more than 3900X despite not including a cooler.

Are you using PBO for all these tests? If so, it'd only be fair to remove TDP locks on the Intel chip, as those are the roughly equivalent features that fall short of manual overclocks.
Paul can you make a "racing games benchmark"? Like 1080p single screeen, 1080p triple screen for iRacing, Assetto corsa, Assetto corsa competizione, RF2, AM2? Would be a nice niche for benchmarks....plz do it ;)

Also consider AMD seems to be integrating their GPU and CPU setups, it'd be interesting to see what combination will work best. Ryzen + Big Navi, or Ryzen + Nvidia

Finally feel ready to upgrade my i7-4790k @ 4.7ghz (which has served me very well thus far) to one of AMD's 5000 series CPU's...

Hi Paul. Micro Center in Fairfax Virginia is only selling the Ryzen 5000 series CPU's in store (10* available of each per website). Glad to see and seems to be an excellent solution to avoid scalping as much as possible. I wonder if they will do the same for the RX 6000 series GPU launch?

@@KAKUN_DESU if you dont play esports game you do not need more than 60 in normal games so who cares about oc 90% of people play with stock cpu.
And 10900k without 4000mhz+ mem cant beat zen 3 even at 5.3ghz
most of people will go with 3200 or 3600 memory and you can oc both and put 10900k at 5.3 ghz with ring bus at 5.0 and zen will still be on top , if you oc your ram at 4mhz+ yes and ring bus at 5.0 yes you are faster in some games, in amd optimized games you will be still far back.

i talked with a lot of people so that is the reality.
Just because you need all the performance it doesnt mean all people need it.
@@KAKUN_DESU fyi there are boards that auto switch allowing the ryzen to have higher clocks in single core when needed and slighlty lower across all cores when needed.

Just figured i would get 5000 series with new navi card to take advantage of boost but seems to be a harder mission then planned.
Dont want to spend money just to have to spend more.later....with loss...guess ill wait it out for now. Time will tell i guess

Because of Paul’s Hardware, I was able to buy a 5600x this morning using an affiliate link from twitter. Otherwise, it was sold out on Amd and Newegg and I couldn’t find it on Amazon myself. B&H hadn’t opened to selling either and Best Buy is trickling orders and I didn’t feel confident in getting one there given the demand. Thanks Paul

I liked this video because you actually had Esports titles like LOL and CSGO where we saw 19+% improvements and those were on High settings (so possibly more if going to Low for max FPS).

Why all gaming benchmarks ATE only 1080p? Where are 4K tests? On TH-cam there are a lot of tests and all are only 1080p... So its mean there are some isuues on 4k and its hiden?
At higher resolutions the CPU becomes less relevant and the performance is usually more dependent on the GPU, so you aren’t really benchmarking the CPU. But at lower resolutions like 1080p you make the performance more dependent on the CPU, which means you are actually benchmarking the CPUs, they will usually be the bottleneck.
test a CPU in gaming using 4k, is like testing a Ferrari in a narrow road, while a truck is just ahead and don´t let the Ferrari pass. You can pretty much have a beetle in the same situation, running at the same speed.

Finally AMD is competitive, it was about a time... Good news for us customers.

@SCuMpZ well, next year AMD will either release Zen3+ or go straight to 5nm anyway, they'll probably release a refresh of zen3 just to stay ahead of Intel
Still more than happy with my 10900K and the gaming performance is awesome even beating the new ZEN3 in some games, I'm good for many years.

Actually Intel's price to performance and power consumption ratios are still overpriced if compared to AMD 5000 series processors. So Intel is still not for poor people, Intel is for fanboys and people who don't know that they're being ripped off.

One thing to think about, MoBo cost between the two platforms. Just doing a quick check on Newegg, the AMD setup (CPU+MoBo) was about $100 cheaper than the Intel. I took the CPU prices and added them to the highest price MoBo (sold on Newegg only) from each platform. AMD 5900x ; Intel 10900k Side note the AMD CPU are "sold out" at the time of this comment.
Out of stock here i Denmark as well - and as far as I can see, the same for the hole EU ... :( - It is not looking good for the 18th november GPU 6000 launch ...
There's a 25% off sale on the 3900xt series on a tech store close by. Is there enough of a difference for me to wait for the 5800x or 5900x to come back in stock?

Yeah no one uses the stock coolers for 3000 series which is like a 40$ cooler at best. Makes sense to use aftermarket.

As someone who bought a 10900kf a few months ago, this is absolutely fantastic news. Competition only benefits the consumer. Might make intel finally get their new chips to market. Don’t care who wins, just happy that everyone has access to this level of performance

I got my ryzen 9 5900x from Scan in the UK, should be delivered tomorrow, upgrading from 3600XT. I hope my nzxt kraken x62 will be able to cool it and allow for some overclocking headroom. I am using a 4k 120hz monitor and felt like 3600xt actually bottlenecks even in games like battlefield V as it reaches 80%+ utilization and my RTX 3080 utilization is around 80-90%

I think, given their matching price points, many people, including myself, will be considering which 1 to get.

Hey Paul, just wanted to ask how does the price to performance change if we bought one of the i9 10850k at $429 since they went on sale. Does it make it a better value or do they even out.
Considering that most people who by Intel K-series CPU's will overclock them, a BETTER gaming comparison would be the 5900X(PBO) vs Intel CPU's with an all core overclock to at least 5.0Ghz. Would be nice to see several of those if possible, ie how the 5900X(PBO) compares in games to a 10900K, 10700K, 10600K, 9900K, 9700K, and 8700K, all at 5.0Ghz.
So someone like me who is planning to stream and game at the same time should be looking for a Ryzen 5900x and a RTX 3080? Also, what cooling system do you recommend as well as Ram? I actually want the best performance for game/streaming so I can compete professionally in Apex Legends. Thank you for the video.

Got my 5900x and was a bit conerned seeing the temps when it would run 72 ish when gaming. Guess they just like to run very hot.
This is a first, Amazon.co.uk don't seem to even have listings for the 5000 series processors... or perhaps they had and they sold out so fast that the landing pages were removed lol.
So, I have a dumb (maybe) question. I am currently using a basic Ryzen 3600 on an x570 motherboard. I built my PC with the idea to upgrade it down the road. Can I pre-flash a new BIOS in preparation for getting a 5800x or better and the computer still work fine? I have never updated a motherboard BIOS for so, it's one of the few computer build aspects I have very limited knowledge about. Thanks for any help from Paul and/or the comments.
The Ryzen 9 5900x is beating the 10900K and that's on an RTX 3080, so without SAM and Rage Mode.
SAM I think is a fair comparison for standard Benchmark testing as it's native to the AMD CPU/GPU combo, but Rage Mode could be considered overclocking and not fair head to head comparisons.
