Welded steel is very strong. I can weld Aluminium also, but steel is very good for the stationary bits. I used Aluminium for the X axis gantry, and the build platform. These are two parts that Al was better for. Steel is a better material for the rest, it's harder, stronger, welds better, and holds threads better.
